I also offer good luck to Zach. I do not believe that GT gave him a scholarship. Preferred walk-on maybe, but little else. He just wanted to get the hell away from Akron and he succeeded. He should have stayed and benefited from a good, competent coaching staff, which he never had. But that's his decision. I do not share the attitude that he could have led us to better days. His improvement over the last 2 years has been admirable, but not to the level that we could win big. If he doesn't want to stay, thanks for your time here.

Bowl season over the last 6 years or so always does a nice job of showing the country what the conference is really made of. The MAC has seriously fallen off, and deserves all of the criticism it gets for being a crappy conference. Believe me, I still love watching it and it’s generally fun football, but when the MAC East comes down to two 6-5 teams the the west champ goes 0-6 the year before, as fun as those things are, they tell me there’s a lot of parity and parity that isn’t very good. Toledo pays Candle over $1 million a year, WMU pays Lester like $850k and both have been incredible disappointments based on recruiting outside of Toledo’s title in 2017 where UA didn’t even belong in the same stadium as that team. With that said, it’s a perfect opportunity for Moorhead to strike while the iron is hot and really do something to make moves in this league. It can be done.

Good for Zach. He took an absolute beating during his 3 freshman years as a Zip. All for 3 lousy wins. Same for Matheson. I loved him, but he paid his dues and deserves to go wherever he wants. 100% confident Joe will quickly find replacements as good as, or better than those two guys. And put them is a much better position to win than Zach and Michael ever had. Unless Joe brings in an eye-popping QB transfer, I'm still high on Irons. Joe will fix his ball security issues and give him a much better line to throw behind.

I don’t blame Mumpfield, Gibson & Mathison for transferring this year. They were recruited by Arth & were very close to Arth & frankly, may secretly hope Moorhead crashes & burns. Idk. We are losing 3 good ones in those guys, no doubt, but let’s wait & see if we lose any/many top players once Moorhead brings his own players in. I still think we’ll end up getting more good players filtering “down” to us than we’ll lose. But we’ll see.

Transfer Portal. Great topic. Horrific idea. The TP is a microcosm of society. No rules, no laws, no morals, not about working hard, doing the right thing, it’s about quitting and it’s all about me, me, me. The team concept is gone. Ditto for NIL. That said, it’s here to stay and we need to be the first to hire a Transfer Portal coach and hopefully Mr. Leaf Filter can fund our NIL account. Clearly, I side more with CK than GP1 on this topic, but we need to deal with it and figure out a way to at least make the rules neutral for UA. The NCAA would never institute new rules or policies designed to help out the G5, so while the TP does give us more flexibility to fill gaps, how much fun is it to root for a team full of one- year players? Furthermore, the thought of developing guys for two or three years and then they wake up one day and decide to leave just because they can is bs. Hell, it’s been 30 years since Anthony Buford left the hoops team to follow Huggins to UC and he actually had to follow the rules, sit out a year and he followed his coach, but I’m still pissed that after three years with UA he left. I still don’t consider him a Zip. Zips are forever or is it Forever a Zip? I think the TP will help teams like Purdue to get a player or two that they would not have had a chance to recruit out of high school, and of course it gives P5 schools the opportunity to fill gaps with older and hopefully more mature players but it will not impact the top 10 teams at all. For every 4 star player OSU might lose, they can fill the gaps with another teams 4 star upper classmen. As for the Zips, I hate to see Gibson, Mathison and Mumpfield go. Personally, I thought Gibson had great MAC upside and I said this after the shortened ‘20 season. He and his mom will be missed. Are there any Zip fans out there who has the time to create a spreadsheet and follow the Zips-out versus the Zips-in via the portal to see if we are benefiting from the portal or is the portal a detriment. Snipe all you want, but this coach and staff know exactly what they are doing. Trust the process. They are getting the talent we need, just not the way you want. I trust their competence over your preference. Perhaps over the last three years you have forgotten what competence is. It is easy to forget when it is nowhere present so I guess you can be forgiven.
