  1. Another talented player would be nice and he certainly had value when he was here. That being said, I'm not sure he fits into this team- a team of unselfish high character guys who have ENTIRELY bought into Groce and the program. His transfer tells me maybe he's not that kind of guy.

  3. They specifically mentioned they hated Ali Ali. Maybe they were on to something? I kid. 😄

  4. Should be an interesting game coming up shortly. Two teams fighting for Cleveland, one with a coach already told she will not be back and the other in the 4th year of a 5 year contract and a dismal record after taking over a winning program. It's Senior Day, so maybe our departing women will turn it on. Or will Miami's solid trio of Scott, Wolf and Cluse fight to make it to the tournament and help their coach hang on? 🤔

  6. I don't see them having many advantages, but for matchups it will be interesting to see if Tribble can slow down Norman and if Enrique can keep Markeese Hastings off of the boards. They are a good rebounding team, so that's one area they could have a slight advantage.

  7. Another player which could really be helping us this year is 6-6 PF Jermaine Marshall. He's a junior starter at Samford. Samford is currently 21-9/15-2 Southern Conference. Jermaine is averaging 12.6 PPG & 6.5 RPG. The Transfer Portal is rough.

  8. This took me a minute to wrap my head around as well! So, we would be looking at whether or not a LeBron-led Zips team could beat UCONN w/ Okafor and Ben Gordon? Yikes. How confident are we that Derrick Tarver would catch fire in the title game? Dru and Romeo were solid MAC freshmen, but hard to imagine they could carry the load at that point. From what I remember of those years, Hollingsworth was a hell of a guard in stretches, so who knows?

  9. When he first accepted the Akron gig I think Joe could have gone to 10 other places that would have paid him more. The opportunities won't stop now that he's here. College, and occasionally NFL teams will annually put him on their interview list. I just don't see him leaving until he gets the job done. He's here for the right reasons - the chance to run his own program again, a decent salary (you can live pretty nicely on $700k in the Akron area), and for whatever reason...like all of us hard-core supporters...he actually believes in the potential of Zips football. Faust famously called Akron a "sleeping giant" when he came on campus back in the mid 80's. We've been asleep ever since, thanks to horrible facilities, horrible hires and overall administrative ineptitude. It's amazing how many 1-AA teams have ascended to 1-A since the Zips were the first to do so back in 1985. And every single one of them has been more competitive than the Zips. To me, Joe is our first legitimate chance to get off the 38-year schneid. He wants to be here...he's got the facilities...he's a brilliant guy...he's a proven winner...if he can't do it, no one can. Stay the F away, NFL. You don't need Joe. We do.
