  1. Looks like a couple Zips transfers have landed. No formal announcements just appear on 2024 rosters. Jackson Herbert - Wright State Rui Reis - UIC

  9. The running game has been mostly an afterthought during Moorhead’s tenure, but finally eclipsed the 100 yard per game mark in 2024. Jordan Gant - [Redshirt Junior, New] - NR (HS) / (5.5) 3 ⭐️ Portal - Transfer from Tennessee State. Gant was named a freshman All-American in 2023 before taking a reduced role in 2024. Gant does not have elite speed, but he is shifty and has excellent balance. He also sees the field well and is a solid receiver out of the backfield. Gant should be the starting running back this coming season. - Other Portal Offers: Bethune-Cookman Chris Gee - [Junior, New] - NR (HS) / NR (Portal) - Transfer from Colgate. Gee amassed 833 yards and 4 touchdowns over the past two seasons with Colgate. Gee is built in a similar vein to former RB CJ Price. He has a solid burst, quick feet, and can make the first defender miss. Gee will push for immediate playing time. Marquese Williams - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - (5.7) 3 ⭐️ HS / (5.6) 3 ⭐️ Portal - Former transfer from Minnesota. Williams was a high producer in HS and had multiple P5 offers. Williams did not see the field at Minnesota and played less than 15 snaps this past season. Williams was not overly impressive during the 2024 spring game and will more developing before he claims a bigger role in the offense. HS FILM. * Sean Patrick - [Redshirt Freshman, Returning] - (5.4) 2 ⭐️ - Patrick is extremely shifty in the open field and understands how to press angles. He has a knack for making defenders miss with subtle movements. Patrick may not have elite speed, but his excellent feet and elusiveness in the open field makes up for it. Patrick redshirted in 2024 and will have a chance to secure a role this coming season. HS FILM * Fahrell Freeman - [Redshirt Freshman, Returning] - NR - Walk-on. HS FILM * Luke Reed - [Redshirt Freshman, Returning] - NR - Walk-on. HS FILM * Simmons and Kellom did a fine job replacing Lingard. Simmons parlayed his success into an opportunity with Ole Miss, while Kellom is still searching for a new home. The current running back corps has the ability to produce the same type of numbers if given the chance. That said, despite the best rushing season we’ve had under Moorhead, it was still bottom tier of the conference. Scholarship Players: Jordan Gant Chris Gee Marquese Williams Sean Patrick Added: Jordan Gant Chris Gee Removed: NR - Jordan Castleberry - Graduation (5.2) 2 ⭐️ (HS) - Charles Kellom - TP (5.5) 3 ⭐️ (TP) - Jordan Simmons - TP = Ole Miss Removed Before 2024: (5.5) 3 ⭐️ (TP) - Lorenzo Lingard - Graduation. 10. Receiver was again the deepest position on offense, but the struggles at QB prevented a higher level of production in 2023. Alex Adams - [Grad., Returning] - (5.7) 3 ⭐️ - Former transfer from LSU. Adams was an explosive player in high school that hadn’t lived up to his potential at LSU. In his first year at Akron, that explosiveness returned and he was voted 1st Team All-MAC. Adams played in 11 games in 2022 and collected 63 receptions for 855 yards and 9 touchdowns. Adams spent the majority of 2023 injuried and only caught 22 passes for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. Adams was held out during the 2024 spring game. HS FILM * Star Rating Take: It’s still early for Adams, but he’s definitely trending towards his original (5.7) 3 ⭐️ status. Justin Campbell - [Redshirt Senior, Returning] - (5.2) 2 ⭐️ - JUCO transfer who signed out of HS with Ball State. Campbell was second team all-conference at JUCO this past season and collected 23 receptions for 403 yards and 3 TDs. He knows how to use his tall frame and can make difficult catches. Runs well and is a willing blocker. Campbell was noticeable in the 2024 spring game and will help the team this year. JUCO FILM * Tim Grear - [Redshirt Senior, New] - (5.4) 2 ⭐️ (JUCO) / (5.5) 3 ⭐️ (Portal) - Transfer from Fresno State. Former JUCO that may have two years of eligibility left. Myles Walker - [Redshirt Senior, Returning] - (5.3) 2 ⭐️ - Walker exhibits a fluid stride and gets up to his top end speed quickly. He did not see playing time in 2022, but was the surprise of the receiving corps during the spring game in 2023. Walker finished the season with 8 receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. Walker was a starter in the 2024 spring game and flashes the ability to runs solid routes and catch the ball when it comes his way. HS FILM * Star Rating Take: TBD Ahmarian Granger - [Senior, Returning] - (5.5) 3 ⭐️ (HS) / NR (Portal) - Transfer most recently from JMU (spring). Last played at Old Dominion. Granger brings speed to the wide receiving corps. He started a handful of games at ODU and provided the ability to stretch the field and was utilized on some wide receiver sweeps. Granger should immediately land on the two deep. Late post spring addition. Brandon “Bebe” Hills - [Redshirt Sophomore, New] - (5.4) 2 ⭐️ (HS) / (5.4) 2 ⭐️ Portal - Transfer from Washington State. Israel Polk - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - (5.5) 3 ⭐️ (HS) / ((5.5) 3 ⭐️ (Portal) - Transfer from Pittsburgh. Polk is a smooth strider with deceptive speed and excellent body control. He did not play much during his freshman year at PITT, but has the potential to develop into an All-MAC caliber player. There is a ton of talent at wide receiver, so it remains to be seen how quickly Polk pushes for significant snaps. Polk was a post spring roster addition. HS FILM * Jean Louis - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - (5.3) 2 ⭐️ - Louis has great hands and excellent balance. He tends to make over-the-shoulder catches look easy when they can often be tricky. As expected, Louis redshirted in 2023. He looked like a receiver who is on the verge of being ready to contribute in the 2024 spring game. HS FILM * Star Rating Take: TBD Paul Davis - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - (5.5) 3 ⭐️ - Davis is a former Duke commitment out of Georgia. He has a college ready frame at 6’0” 195lbs and is a strong athlete. Davis’ best traits are probably his body control and excellent hands. He flashes a large catch radius and attacks the ball in the air. Davis does not seem that fast on film, yet defenders have a difficult time both chasing him down and tackling him. Davis redshirted in 2023. Like Louis, Davis looked like he is in the verge of being ready to contribute during the spring. HS FILM * Star Rating Take: TBD Kyan Mason - [Redshirt Freshman, Returning] - (5.4) 2 ⭐️ - Mason is a long strider who has a lot of similarities to Shocky Jacques-Louis coming out of HS. He has sure hands, understands angles, and finds a way to get open. Mason also returned punts and kickoffs. He enrolled post spring. HS FILM * Luke Sivon - [Freshman, New] - NR - Late addition to the early signing period and first prep signee by coach Brookhart. Sivon has excellent body control and great feet. He also has a smooth stride with seeming plenty of speed. It’ll be difficult for Sivon to crack the rotation as a freshman, but he may turn out to be a sneaky good pickup down the road. HS FILM Isaiah Jones - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - NR - Preferred Walk-on. Jones has a nice sized frame at 6’3” 200lbs and will likely not see action outside of special teams for the first few years. Jones redshirted in 2023. Dominic Monds - [Redshirt Freshman, Returning] - NR - Walk-on. New wide receivers coach JD Brookhart has already made his mark on this group with the post spring portal additions of Granger and Polk. Wide receiver will likely prove to be the most talented position on offense again, but consistent QB play is needed to throw them the ball. - JUCO Jacobi Moore did not make it to campus. 13. Game Roster (Rules 3.2.1 and 6.3.4). Requires the game roster, with starting players designated, to be given to the opposing coach, referee and scorekeeper not later than 15 minutes before game time. Stopping the Clock (Rules 3.8.8 and 6.3.5.4). Requires the clock to be stopped on all substitutions if the game is tied or if the leading team makes a substitution in the final 15 minutes of regulation play and all of overtime. Video Review (Rules 5.7.3.7, 5.7.3.8, 5.7.3.9 and 5.7.3.10). Expands video review to include (1) all potential penalty kick situations, (2) all straight red card situations (an ejection for two yellow cards is not reviewable), (3) denial of obvious goal-scoring opportunities situations, and (4) any potential offside violation in goal-scoring situations.

  15. When I first looked at the schedule, I did not remember that VCU had a strong year in 2023. In 2022, VCU had a record of 3-8-6. In 2023, VCU had a record of 7-6-5 and they were 5-1-2 in their conference. VCU ended the year ranked 36 in RPI. If VCU can have a good year in 2024, the zips 2024 schedule is probably better for RPI than the 2023 schedule. In 2023 and 2024, the zips have 9 non conference games in each year. Cleveland State and Notre Dame are the only 2 common opponents in each year. Last year, there were 211 men's soccer teams in the final RPI. Akron played 3 teams last year that ended the year with a ranking of 194 or below. Based on last year's rankings, this year's lowest ranked team ended the year at 169. Let's compare the non conference schedules...and year end 2023 RPI 2023 Niagara 194 Vermont 18 Michigan 54 Southern Indiana 199 Long Island 91 Fla Intl 31 Notre Dame 3 Northern Kentucky 204 Cleve State 169 total of 963.....divided by 9....that is an average RPI ranking of 107 per team Western Michigan will really help the average RPI ranking in 2024 2024 Notre Dame 3 Ohio State 52 Western Michigan 6 Cleve State 169 VCU 36 IUPUI Jaguars 156 Temple 143 St. Francis PA 125 Wright State 159 total of 839.........divided by 9.....that is an average RPI ranking of 93.3 per team one other factor to consider..... the zips will play 3 different.......big east teams this year....than they played last year In 2023, the zips played Seton Hall 65 St. Johns 68 Providence 61 total of 194......divided by 3....that is an average RPI ranking of 64.7 per team I knew that the zips would play mighty Georgetown in 2024....so I expected the 2024 average to be lower in 2024, the zips will play Georgetown 10 UConn 58 Villanova 148 total of 216.....divided by 3...that is an average RPI ranking of 72 per team

  16. For anyone interested in the 2024 rules changes, a pdf of the NCAA Soccer Rule Book can be downloaded from the NCAA website at https://www.ncaapublications.com/p-4692-2024-and-2025-soccer-rules.aspx Here's a few excerpts, but I suggest looking at the full document. As I read it for men's soccer, a player can play in each period (1st half, 2nd half, 1st OT, 2nd OT), but if subbed out cannot re-enter until the next period. The following rules changes apply to Division I men's competition only. Substitutions (Rule 3.4.3). Allows teams six moments to make substitutions in a game. Substitutions (Rule 3.4.3). Allows substitutions to occur during any stoppage of play. Substitutions (Rule 3.5.1 Exception). Eliminates reentry in the second half for field players and makes all periods the same (no reentry). 3.4.3 For Division I men only, each team is permitted six substitution moments during a game. A moment may be used during any stoppage of play, and up to 11 players per team may be substituted for in each moment per Rule 3.3. If a team is only substituting players under the exceptions of Rule 3.7, that shall not count as a moment. If a normal substitution is made at the same time as one under the exceptions of Rule 3.7, that shall count as a moment. For postseason overtime games, each team shall retain any unused moments from regulation play and receive one additional moment. Substitutions during intervals between periods do not count as a moment. 3.5.1 Field Players. Field players are not permitted to reenter the game in the same period after being substituted for in the first half, the first overtime period and the second overtime period. Field players are permitted one reentry into the game after being substituted for in the second half. Each overtime period is considered a separate half, so a field player who is substituted for in the first overtime period may participate in the second overtime period. First half: no reentry. Second half: one reentry. First overtime period: no reentry. Second overtime period: no reentry. Exception: For Division I men only, a player who has been substituted for may not reenter the game in the same period unless it is for one of the exceptions listed in Rules 3.5.2 or 3.7. This includes overtime, where each 10-minute period is counted as a separate period with no reentry

  17. I know that some people think we could do better than playing Ohio State, but..... With this game being the home opener and played on the Sunday before classes start, this game will be absolutely packed! A win against Ohio State to start the season off would do a lot to boost student attendance throughout the season
