  1. What we need now is a co-branded Akron Zips/Amex credit card with 5x rewards points on all Zips-related purchases, 80,000 bonus points for spending $3,000 in the first six months and your choice of Zips logo designs on the card.

  2. Ohio schools must accept cash, new Ohio law states. How this only applies to high schools and not colleges is beyond me, but not accepting cash is a dumb shift in society. Since when is having a bank a must or risk being barred from society (the last people who risked being barred from society - anti-vaxx/masks - ended up being correct)? People used to think for themselves and even question banks (gasp). Now we're forcing everyone to be beholden to the banks? If someone chooses not to use a bank, but has cash, they should be allowed to attend a Zips game. With "inclusivity" being at the forefront of social agendas, it's a hypocritical decision to refuse service to those who wish to use cash. Kent State level of stupidity & hypocrisy.

  3. I'm most excited to see our transfer players, but of them all I'm probably most excited to see Josiah Harris. I think the fan favorite by season's end... keeping my finger crossed... will be Nate Johnson. If Nate is the fan favorite it'll mean he's taken that leap most of us are hoping for and we all know he's capable of. I'm keeping my expectations curbed for true freshman PG Sharron Young. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than underwhelmed. I know he'll be a good one, but asking a true freshman to run the show is a big ask.

  4. I'm just not as sold on Young as some of you are. That's not to say he won't be a great player. It's just my expectations for him year 1 are tempered. I think Harris has the highest ceiling potential for next season.

  5. I miss those uniforms so much. They wore that set when I first became a Zips fan in high school and during my first two years at UA.

  7. Sick and tired of corporate spins to push 🐂💩. None of that is remotely factual or sensible.

  8. I use cards all the time - very rarely do I carry much cash, if any at all. The issue isn't how often cards are used. The issue is why there's a movement to not accept legal tender. Who does it harm to accept cash vs. who does it benefit not to accept cash? Would be a damn shame if our attendance wasn't able to increase by 20% because 2 people only had cash to pay for tickets. "Sorry, we only accept cashless forms of payment. As you can see by the 99% empty stadium, we have grounds to refuse entry to those without credit or debit cards."

  9. He's the Rudy of the Cavs summer league.

  10. It sounds like he won't be eligible to play in the summer league games, but will be able to practice with the team. Probably as an extra body for the scout team.

  11. I think that Wright State has several kids from Medina on their team.....Cole Turchyn and Cole Werthmuller. I hope that Jackson Herbert does well at Wright State......with the exception of the game that they play at Akron.

  12. Barred from society lol These people all used cards their whole lives and now that they "have to" they want to rebel against whoever the boogeyman that's behind whatever movement this is.

  16. I assume they’ll tack on a 3% convenience fee to every transaction? Of course you’ll also get the option to tip your concession worker 20%|30%|40% too.

  17. Zips used far more 12 personnel in 2023 than in 2022. Expect the offense to revert back to more single right end sets in 2024. Jacob Newell - [Redshirt Junior, Returning] - (5.6) 3 ⭐️ HS / (5.4) 2 ⭐️ (Portal) - Transfer from Arizona State where he had a few P5 offers. Newell provides a big target in the passing game with a large frame and excellent hand/eye coordination. He has tremendous upside and will be the top tight end heading into 2024. Newell finished 2023 with 13 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. He was the starting tight end in the spring game as expected. HS FILM * Max Whisner - [Redshirt Junior, Returning] - (5.6) 3 ⭐️ HS / (5.2) 2 ⭐️ (Portal) - Transfer from Missouri. Whisner is more suited as an in-line blocking TE, but does have a decent catch radius. While he may not be as adept at gaining yards after the catch as some of the other TEs, he is a reliable target in the passing game. Expect Whisner to see significant playing time as he is more physically advanced than the other tight ends on the roster not named Newell. The (5.2) 2 ⭐️ rating is about as lazy as I’ve seen by a recruiting service. Whisner was in the competition to be a starter at Mizzou this time last year. HS FILM * Conner Cravaack - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - (5.4) 2 ⭐️ - Cravaack played TE and DE in high school. He will provide a big target in the passing game and flashes surprisingly nimble feet for someone his size. As expected, Cravaack redshirted his freshman year. He played in the 2024 spring game and looks ready to contribute this season. HS FILM * Star Rating Take: TBD Khalil Witherspoon - [Redshirt Freshman, Returning] - (5.4) 2 ⭐️ - Witherspoon played on both sides of the ball in HS as a WR, TE, and DE. He runs well and has excellent hand/eye coordination. He already understands how to use his body to position himself to win contested balls. Witherspoon has the potential to eventually develop into an All-MAC player, but will likely redshirt his freshman year. HS FILM * Aiden Diaz - [Redshirt Sophomore, Returning] - NR - Former walk-on that redshirted in 2023. Banks and Newell received nearly 100% of the snaps in 2023. Banks is now gone leaving Newell as the top option. Whisner will be the top backup and Cravaack should also work his way into some snaps. This is a talented and versatile group that will support in the run game and give the offense reliable options in the passing game. Scholarship Players: Conner Cravaack Jacob Newell Max Whisner Khalil Witherspoon Added: Removed: NR - Grant Gainer - Walk-on Removed: (5.8) 4 ⭐️ (HS) - TJ Banks - Graduated. (5.2) 2 ⭐️ (TP) - Brycen Yarmo - TP (5.4) 2 ⭐️ (TP) - Nik Ognenovic - TP Removed Before 2023 Season: NR - Jacob Shaffer - Grad. - Walk-on (5.2) 2 ⭐️ - Tristian Brank - Retired. - Star Rating Take: (5.4) 2 ⭐️ (5.5) 3 ⭐️ - Marquell Darnell - TP? - Star Rating Take: TBD. (5.7) 3 ⭐️ - Caden Clark - Retired. Before 2022 season: NR - Matthew Monaghan - Walk-on NR - Nick Dottore - (Morehead State) - Walk-on NR - Nate Amato - Walk-on

  18. Cashless transactions have become the industry standard and is designed to improve the pre-game and gameday experiences for all fans by reducing wait time in lines at a ticket window, concessions area, or merchandise store/stand. In addition to getting fans to their seat sooner, cashless transactions promotes the overall health, security, and public safety of fans. https://gozips.com/news/2024/7/5/football-akron-athletics-announces-cashless-transactions-at-all-athletic-events-for-the-2024-25-season
