  1. Lurch was a really good football player in his day. Him on the right. My dad on rhe left. 1947

  2. I’ve talked up Finley a lot based upon his performance in the two summer scrimmages. It stinks that he got pummeled in the OSU game and didn’t get a chance to go much beyond “2 Mississippi” before he got snowed under. He didn’t get a chance to show what he can do, which is move the chains and stretch the field. I hope he gets that chance on Saturday, but I’m not super-confident. I was a little disappointed in Norton’s effort on the ball that hit his back shoulder and got picked off. The DB wanted the ball more than he did. He needs to be more dialed-in this week. Can the OL make some holes for Simmons and Kellom? That would go a long way in helping our passing game. Our D will show up. Can our offense give them a breather before they get gassed? It’s all in the hands of the OL. And, a reasonably healthy Finley.

  3. Also wanted to give credit to the announcers from the OSUcks game. They were extremely complimentary toward the Zippers & didn't really try to make any excuses for OSU. As the teams were going into their tunnels at halftime the announcers said, "Akron has come to play. Akron fans should be proud of their team," or words to that effect. Coming into the 2nd half they mentioned things they were impressed with during the first half. The first thing they mentioned was Akron's D.

  5. There's this weird trend in football and has been going on for years. It's even been added to video games. Players wearing big baggy undershirts that are sometimes a different color than the actual jersey. Really doesn't make any sense to me because manufacturers talk about all this technology that makes jerseys lighter, tighter, more breathable, etc. Yet wearing a big shirt underneath all that just defeats the purpose. Not only that, it gives defenders something else to grab onto. Could be worse though. Remember when a Duquesne football player went viral for looking like Fred Mertz out there?

  6. While we ask Joe to clean up his act I'd like to ask the equipment manager to give the players white shirts for under their jerseys. That way when they pull up their white jersey over their bellies they don't show a wide band of blue, almost like a cumberbun. It makes us look like we've got no pride in the uni. This has been a pet peeve of mind since last season. Agree with me or not, but I feel the team has to project pride in their appearance and play. End of rant.

  8. From Greg Schiano’s presser: (All quotes about Akron) Defensively Akron presents issues. Scheme is a little different. Reminds me of when Jim Leonard was at Wisconsin. Stout up front. Inside they are big. 300+ lbs. Nunnally is active off the edge. McCoy is a good player and very active. DBs are pretty good. (P.)Lewis is an active player - long, good looking kid. Golden-Nelson showed up. The Nickelback (D.)Lewis is a ball hawk. They gave Ohio State some problems up front. Finley was doing some good things and then got injured. We’re familiar with Tahj Bullock. (Schiano recruited Bullock out of HS before he committed to VT.) He’s a very athletic guy that presents problems both running and throwing, so we’re going to have our hands full there. Newell is a big kid that does some good things. You can see Golden has speed. He’s their speed guy. Offensive line is big, 300lbs across the board. Now the center might not be as big depending on who plays, but the guards and tackles are big. Joe Moorhead is an accomplished coach. Competed with him when Moorhead was at UCONN and then again at Penn State. He’s an excellent coach and his teams are well coached. They always have some wrinkles you’re not ready for. More on Bullock: I have a lot of respect for him. He’s very tough. Tough hard worker. I got to see his dad at the 7 on 7 this summer. I have a lot of respect for Tahj the way he carries himself and the way he approaches the game. I’m not sure who’s gonna be the quarterback, but we’ll be ready for both.

  10. Here are the Week 1 Outgoing Transfer Stats. Snaps are only for offense or defense. I did not list any of the players that went DII as those stats are too time consuming to collect. 11. It seems to me that the coaches should adjust the system / formation for the players we have. As Jared said in an earlier press conference, it is his to figure out the pieces and how they fit. Players don't decide when they sit on the bench. They are accountable for their actions on the field, but the coaches are accountable for putting them there.

  12. Here is QB commit Cibastian Broughton's sophomore year highlights (I couldn't find a tape of his junior year highlights). He plays in Florida's 7A division, which is the division for Florida's largest schools. Tell me he doesn't look like precisely the kind of QB JoeMo's looking for to run his O 💪💪 Cibastian Broughton's Junior Year Highlights

  13. 100% agree about Norton. He didn’t work back to the ball, nor did he put up much of a fight for it. Our OL should look better by default in pass protection. Rutgers hasn’t been great rushing the passer and they don’t have the studs like Ohio State does (few teams do). They were decent against the run vs Howard, but nothing overly impressive. Howard’s mobile QB gave them fits. I’m excited to see how our defensive front fares against a physical Big10 OL. By no stretch am I calling for a win, but this could be a closer game than many expect….if we are healthy.

  14. I actually heard from a pretty reliable source that CJ Price is transferring from Jackson State to San Diego State. I'm not sure on the exact timeframe, but what ever it is, I'm guessing he won't be playing in any games for Jackson State this year. Curious how this is going to work out.

  15. Ok, this is a big step forward. He’s got on Akron gear this time - granted, it’s the old script logo but this is a move in the right direction! Maybe we still need one more big check from Rutgers to get him totally updated. Seriously though, thanks for posting this, it’s good to get some insight on what is going on with the program

  17. Rewatched the first 3 quarters again yesterday just because I was so pleased with how we looked. We were holding our own & definitely not getting pushed around by the best college team money can buy. I remember days when we'd play P4 teams & I'd just cross my fingers praying we'd ever manage to force a punt on D or get a first down on O.

  18. There a lot of blame to go around. Starting with Guthrie for scheduling this game, then the staff for not taking him out earlier/helping out the RT who was getting beat pretty quickly every play.

  19. Maybe he won’t get any Akron gear until Monday morning when that $1.8 million dollar check clears?

  20. 9 points is what the betting world is expecting from us. I don't think that would be enough for us to win. If Finley has a fractured rib I don't think he will play.
