  1. This does two things. 1 - as you note before, absolutely that's a piece of it 2 - for effectively free, the Zips add another piece of the PR cycle and get even more coverage of the event. They're really playing this perfectly.

  2. I watched the game on streaming. Here are my thoughts FWIW. I love the white uniforms The team is better than last year, but by no means a MAC champion. Maggie continues building. I like the way they play: out of the back, quick transition to the attacking third, good wing play, keep the ball on the ground The team is young and has depth They lack speed up top They will have to play themselves into shape. There are several young players who are not D1 fit Their CB's are solid. They see the field well and are very capable of starting the attack with passes on the ground. I like their intelligence too because when it was open they went over the top and it was effective Oakland was a good opponent to start. I regard the Horizon league as rarely up to MAC average standards. But then again the MAC is not a quality women's soccer conference. Nonetheless this was a good opening game. We need a skillful mid who can control the attack and distribute the ball. We don't have a quality striker who has speed and skill. That is probably the hardest player to recruit in women's soccer. That being said I respect Wenzel up top. She is a pain in the ass to all defenders. She finds way to be around the ball in the box and that led to goals. If she could learn to create her shot she could be a dangerous scorer. Our athleticism is suspect. I believe this is because it will take Maggie another two recruiting seasons to stock the team with athletic, skillful players. This team may be better than it appears. I hear two starters are out with season-threatening injuries. If anyone has the scoop on them please share. It is my hope that they will return after rehab yet this season. This team will be fun to watch

  3. I don't know if anyone cares or not Malcom is having a great game for the Falcons tonight. I didn't notice him before the fourth quarter playing defense i thought i saw him on special teams though. Start of the fourth quarter he had a tackle and then an interception at the goal line but replay overturned. It was a nice play but his foot game down out of bounds. He was on field goal block and came relatively close to blocking the field goal (at least it looked like it) and the kicker missed it. Then the next series Falcons forced Denver to punt and Malcolm tackled the guy instantly as soon as he got the ball at like the 11 or 12 yard line. He may make the roster for special teams at least but even at that I think it would be great for the program and recruiting MAYBE to be able to say look at Malcom Dewalt straight from the Zips to the NFL ...! Sidenote Nunnally was released by the Falcons in June and was listed as a free agent as of today.

  4. Fairly big pickup for them. They should have one of the best backcourts in the MAC next year and Simmons to accompany them. Definitely a contender for one of those top 4 MAC seeds.

  7. Checked in on last night's result for Austin FC II and saw that Stefan had two more goals last night before being subbed out at 63 minutes!

  9. This also increases the chances of Barstool promoting one of the Tuesday night games. Which, given they don't get the boost of playing Kent on a Tuesday, those garbage dates need all the help they can get.

  10. It certainly increases the odds one of the celebrity online personalities makes it to be a finalist. Particularly if they bought a number of season tickets. In that case I'm sure they would spend several segments talking about it. Edit: Big Cat is evidently up to 18 tickets purchased. Eric Sollenberger, his co-host, said on another Barstool podcast he himself bought 10. If you add up all the Barstool employees they probably have 100+ tickets. There is a realistic chance of one of them making it to be a top 10 finalist.

  11. The winner will be announced on August 25. There are more details in the article below. https://gozips.com/news/2026/8/15/football-top-10-finalists-for-oc-of-the-game-to-be-revealed-at-meet-the-zips-event-wednesday I wouldn't be surprised if part of this is so they can make the finalists aware ahead of time that way they're available to be interviewed at the time of announcement. I know I personally don't answer calls from unknown numbers due to countless spam. If they want that NFL draft type call it kind of only works if the recipient is expecting the call. Otherwise they might not answer and it creates an awkward moment.
