  1. More than $2.1 mil. I'm counting $3.15 mil. Most years we only get ~$1 mil $1.3 mill South Carolina $1.2 mil Northwestern $650k Nebraska
  2. Groce said he had a concussion.
  3. The play was actually drawn up to go to Utomi, who cut to the basket. He had a defender on him but from my angle i think the inbounder could have got him the ball. Jackson was the 2nd option.
  4. Why we waste so much time? We were only at 7 team fouls. We put up a quicker shot and miss and we could have still put them at the line for a 1 and 1
  5. 9 turnovers in the 1st half. We need to do a better job of cleaning that up and rotating on defense. They're getting a lot of easy looks.
  6. Would still do a better job than RI.
  7. I don't care about getting a coach that creates headlines with their hire. We had that with Bowden. A name loses its significance if it can't put a competitive team on the field. I don't know the ins and outs of all these coaches, but give me the guy whose best at recruiting and developing talent.
  8. Only the team hosting pays and some amount of that goes towards covering the traveling teams transportation costs. There is no real media deal or much of any sponsorship tied to the tournament so charging teams to participate kind of is the only way to keep the tournaments afloat.
  9. I hope we come to a decision by Monday or Tuesday.
  10. I believe it's $40k per home game 1st two rounds then jumps to $75k for every round thereafter. I wonder how that compares to us paying teams like Detroit Mercy or Coppin State to come to the JAR during the regular season?
  11. They should honestly just expand the NIT to 64 teams then get rid of both the CBI and CIT.
  12. Kent State quit caring about their football program. This year they took 3 paycheck games, next year they're taking 3 paycheck games, and in 2020 they have 3 paycheck games. They already have 2 paycheck games scheduled for 2021 with 1 open date still left to schedule. You can just start penciling them in for 1-3 OOC records.
  13. Akron is still a young team who is still learning to develop team chemistry. Pretty much any combination of 5 players we put on the court never played together in an actual game before this season. I expect for us to continue improving as the season goes on. I'm excited for March basketball, which I can't say I was last year. Another thing is pretty much all the MAC teams have senior laden rosters. Akron may actually be the favorite to win the MAC next year while also be in contention for it this year.
  14. Out of likes, but I agree.
  15. i have a friend that a big barrel-aged beer fan. Can I ask where you got it?
  16. I know he left Akron and joined some collegiate sports marketing company. Maybe he will have more success at promoting a conference than running an athletic program.
  17. This reeks of 1st world problems. MAC teams get about a million per team off their TV deal and the only reason we get that much is because we sacrificed our Saturday games for Tuesday and Wednesday games.
  18. Big 12 teams are on average making $36.5 million per year from their TV deal. That would be enough alone to fund Akron's entire athletic department. $4.5 million is a drop in the bucket for a Big 12 school.
  19. I feel even Kehres has question marks. He inherited a program that his dad built into the Alabama of D3 football and his dad is still heavily involved in the program. It's much easier to recruit when you've built a program to a point that you're boosters offer players "academic scholarships" while much of your competition relies on walk-ons. I'm not saying he wouldn't be a good hire as frankly I don't know. I just feel thinking he's an automatic slam dunk isn't looking at the whole picture.
  20. I agree with Captain. What's most important is making the right hire even if it costs us a few more guys.
  21. Yes, I definitely won't be as excited if we hire Arth as I was when we signed Bowden or Groce and I imagine that sentiment is mostly felt a crossed this entire board. That being said I really don't care about winning headlines before a coach coaches his first game. I care about where he is able to lead the program. I'll give whoever it is a chance. If I don't like their performance 3-4 years into their tenure, I'll be back here with my pitchfork.
  22. Any candidate Akron hires is going to have something about them will create some worry. All the guys who check all the boxes already have jobs at the big time programs. Personally, like you I'm going into it with an open mind and will support whoever we get.
  23. Bowden could have been here for 12 years putting up his usual 5-7 records and some people would still be using the team he inherited as an excuse. He's gone now, move on.
  24. I wasn't referring to you, but if the crown fits...
  25. He claims to be an Akron fan, but is afraid to actually see the team succeed
