  1. Archie Miller would have been the no brainer choice had they made this decision in March.I suspect they end up hiring someone that is currently a head coach at the high major/mid-major level instead of settling for the scraps that are left on the unemployment line. That would create a trickle down effect.
  2. It's kind of a dead period for Zips athletics. People, myself included, don't frequent this board as often in the offseason. I also come to this place to talk Zips athletics because I really can't get that anywhere else. I'm regularly talking Cavs with family, friends, coworkers etc. so I see no point in talking about it here.
  3. Yeah, I can't imagine firing him was the plan initially or else it would have happened in March/April. I wonder if it was just a matter of his health worsening and OSU feeling its move to move on now instead of ruining next years recruiting class with a lame duck coach.
  4. Thad Matta canned at OSU. Seems kind of late in the offseason for such a move.
  5. Seems kind of late to be adding a QB. Wonder if this is any indication the staff isn't 100% sold on Kato or Johns?
  6. As Skip pointed out it's a pretty empty stat. Only 2 have appeared in an NFL game and only 1 is a lock to make a 53 man roster out of camp.
  7. ??? I stated it was very possible for him to get picked up by another team. I'm selling him having a legitimate NFL career which you seem to agree with by your refusal to accept my bet about him making an opening day roster. Hell you wouldn't even accept my bet when I lowered it to him making the taxi squad.
  8. Here are a few quotes from our tournament down there: "And as as a side note - as crappy as UTEP is this season, it would have been nice to see the Zips waxing them on the ESPN ticker tonight. Kind of like if we'd have beaten that team masquerading as Ohio State in the NIT last season. It's nice to beat a "name" regardless of their existing state." "Haskins was a legendary coach with a legendary story. The program had a cinderalla era and won a national title. It was a story big enough to eventually inspire a recent Hollywood movie, shown in theaters throughout the country." Ironically, I was arguing they were overrated and Captain was arguing they were a name program worth beating. I don't live in El Paso, but do know they are well revered there with the community and local businesses buying into the program. Still the only basketball program in Texas to win a D-1 basketball championship.
  9. Yes, because a 46 point beat down when they would have been in 8th grade is so much better. It's better for a program to have had tournament success regardless if it was 10 or 20 years ago than to have never experienced it. UTEP peaked in the 60s and hasn't won a tourney game since 1992 and people still talk about them as if they are a better program than your typical mid-major.
  10. They won a tournament game in 2004 so I'm not sure why you keep acting like they haven't had any success since the 70s? I'm counting 13 NCAAT appearances from 1980 on. BTW lol at the photo.
  11. On the basketball hierarchy Depaul > Akron, that's my biggest point. Their budget is nearly double ours, they play in a better conference, they have a better history, and they have a better chance of returning to national prominence given which conference they play in and the resources at their disposal. You're the one that brought up Duquesne who is completely unrelated to this topic. This thread is titled Coleman-Lands. If you're not wishing to talk about him, why are you wasting your time posting in this thread? It makes complete sense to me why a kid would be interested in playing basketball at Depaul, but not Akron. Just because Depaul has fallen on its hardest times while Akron hit its peak doesn't make Akron the better overall basketball program.
  12. @LZIp, convenient to cherry pick numbers to fit your narrative. Accept it or not players would rather play in the Big East, even if it's one of the Big East's 2nd rate programs like Depaul, over playing in the MAC. You call it being a contrarian, I call it realism. Coleman-Lands isn't coming to Akron.
  13. Never said powerhouse, just that they have achieved much more than we have.
  14. What I'm stating is who are we to make fun of a program that has achieved a far great more than we have. You can laugh about their success in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, but meanwhile we're still waiting on our 1st tourney win... PS Oberlin was last Ohio team to beat OSU and that was in 1921.
  15. 22 NCAA tourney appearances 10 Sweet 16 appearances 3 Elite 8 appearances 2 Final 4 appearances I wish Akron "sucked"
  16. We don't need a larger arena. We can't even fill the seats we currently have. Bigger doesn't mean better. Having 3500 fans show up to a 15k seat "Carrier Dome" would just kill any kind of atmosphere.
  17. I'm hoping with the new arena the HOF hosts an early season basketball tournament. If we can't get any teams of note to agree to come to the JAR, maybe we can agree to get them to play at a "neutral" location.
  18. At least he correctly referred to us as University of Akron instead of Akron University.
  19. The problem is with only 1 bye week it becomes challenging to do that. If you have a game on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you can't play on the Saturday before or after.
  20. To be fair I only attended App State last year so if I do attend 2 games, I'll double my last years attendance.
  21. I'll probably attend Iowa State and whichever other game ends up being homecoming.
  22. I was laughing at how he was quick to want to bolt Akron with his boys Hughes and TDM to Duquesne only to later get booted from Akron and forced to play at a JUCO. There have been plenty of Zips that have dropped down to play at a lower level of competition and you can look at my post history, I never commented negatively towards any of them besides Dalton.
  23. Sure, if he still wants to play college basketball it's his only option. I'm laughing because after The Decision 2.0 he was one of the most vocal players about leaving Akron for greener pastures.
