  1. These are the sheets everyone on the selection committee is provided by the NCAA for the selection process. I get that today the bottom of the MAC is better than what it was 10 years ago. The thing is when it comes to selection time it is better to be a top heavy conference. They group all teams 200+ plus signifying there isn't that great of a difference between the 250th rated team and the 325th rated team. There is however a big difference between the 50th rated team and the 125th. The fact the MAC is filled with a bunch of mediocre teams instead of another 2-3 good to great ones hurts Akron. https://extra.ncaa.org/solutions/rpi/Stats Library/Feb. 11 Team Sheets.pdf https://extra.ncaa.org/solutions/rpi/Stats Library/Feb. 11 Nitty Gritty.pdf
  2. Luck is just that their record is better than what sabermetrics say it should be. It doesn't necessarily require close wins. A simplified example is if teams A,B, and C are your opponents and all are deemed "equal" if you lose to team A by 20, but beat team B and C each by 7 that means you are 2-1 with a -6 scoring margin. This means you have over performed as the formula states you should be closer to 1-2, not 2-1. In Sam Houston State's case they have beaten a lot of very bad teams by single digits and Kenpom is declaring their record as fools gold.
  3. If I counted right Kent beat 7 rpi top 100 teams that year; Cleveland State, St. Mary's, George Mason, Ohio, and Akron x 3. Akron has 0 top 100 to date and have no way of picking up any unless a team like Ohio wins enough down the stretch to move and even then it would be 1, 2 if they were to meet in tourney. No way Akron climbs to a 9 seed.
  4. Our best opportunities to get those match ups are those OOC tournaments. Unfortunately, we lost musical chairs and got stuck with Air Force, Mercer, Radford, and GA SO. We landed ourselves in a nice tournament next year, but that does us no good this year.
  5. It might have been a rough journey to get where we are, but I'm happy with Matt Wilson.
  6. If we surpassed 3,000 fans for a 6PM start last week, I can't see us getting less than that for a normal start (sorry LZIP). I think we slightly clear 3,500 and end up ~3,700. Went with Zips win and went with Kwan/Antino/Noah as I feel that combo has more of a scoring punch.
  7. I never buy football season tickets as I typically have a lot of stuff going on around that time of year so I know I'll never be able to make it to 4+ home games when they only play 6. When the Zips play 14-15 home basketball games, it is pretty easy for me to surpass that break even point.
  8. I have no problem with UNC-Wilm being ahead of us. They have 3 RPI top 100 wins and 0 RPI 150+ losses. Just keep winning and we'll play ourselves into a 12 or maybe even an 11 seed.
  9. I expected this. Edit: The last flex TBD date is Tuesday February 28. With it being senior night and our last home game, I'm hoping the fact we're playing last place Miami keeps us away from having it picked up and getting stuck with a dumb start time.
  10. With the Zips losing both Kwan an Big Dog, it wouldn't surprise me if they start Utomi at the 4 next year.
  11. Utomi has seemed to eat away at Aaron Jackson minutes and rightfully so. He'll get minutes at both the 3 and 4.
  12. I wasn't aware of this. I'll have to keep this in mind
  13. Meh, I didn't see them lowering the price as a means to sell more tickets. The tickets would have sold anyways with that small of a supply left. There will probably be people showing up to buy tickets the day of the game and won't be able too. It's a good way to make STH feel more appreciated and who knows maybe it leads to a few people they bring to buy season tickets next year. Also, if an Akron STH is purchasing to bring a friend, spouse, family, etc. it's keeping those tickets out of a Kent fans hands.
  14. Kenpom formula isn't known, but it is pretty much margin of victory adjusted for SOS, road/home, and other stuff that I'm not exactly sure of. Pretty much the luck rating is derived to show Akron has won more games up to this point than they should have based upon their adjusted net scoring margin. He calls it luck. I call it a flaw in his rating system. I don't feel currently Akron is the 36th best team as RPI suggests. I also don't feel Akron is the 96th. I'd probably put ourselves somewhere in between. Something in the neighborhood of 60. Just keep winning and everything will take care of itself.
  15. If I remember right one of the big reasons he choose Toledo was he wanted to go somewhere to be the guy. Dambrot runs a team oriented offense that doesn't cater to any 1 single player. Personally, I don't want a player thats biggest concern is how many shots and points he gets per game.
  16. I was referring to a leader that people want to follow and one that can get fellow students hyped.
  17. And they have made the tournament every year since. They have won 13 NCAAT games and Akron has won 0. How's that an excuse? Nobody here is denying apathy exists. The MAC is viewed as the minor leagues by the students, alumni, and just the local Akron community. The MAC hasn't produced an at-large team in nearly 20 years and the team that does go doesn't make it past the 1st weekend, or even 1st game for that matter. The MAC and the Zips need to do better to shake the stigma of being labeled as a minor league conference/team. In the meantime, I've tried giving ideas on how to get the crowd more into the game. Lets have more real half-time entertainment. During those TV timeouts lets do more promotions that involve fans instead of watching the same boring on the court races. Lets utilize sound, lighting, and perhaps pyrotechnics to help energize the crowd. In an ideal world where we get a new arena, lets make sure students are closer to the action. Having better promotions like $1 dog night and actually selling beer could perhaps get more people too. Call me sexist or whatever, but appreciation of women in sports night just makes me want to Meanwhile, you can go back to your constant complaining instead of offering ideas for improvement. Edit: From the sounds of it having more polarizing people leading the Rowdies would help too.
  18. VCU plays in a vastly more high profile conference, has made the NCAA tournament 9x in the past 13 years, and has made a Final 4 appearance. Akron meanwhile is waiting for their 1st NCAAT win. Once Akron basketball reaches the level of VCU basketball we'll have a vibrant student section too.
  19. I would have voted loss on this game 2 weeks ago, but EMU wheels have fallen off and the Zips have been playing much better defense since the start of the 2nd half of NIU.
  20. Wait a second here that is just madness. Next you're going to tell me they're going to add a headband to dress like a Zip.
  21. CNN Money has a nice write up on how immigrants have helped revitalize Akron. http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/09/news/economy/immigrants-refugees-akron/index.html?iid=hp-stack-dom
  22. What a moron. How'd he expect that comment to go over?
  23. Stumbled upon this podcast of Dambrot. It was done after the NIU game but before Ohio. Really doesn't provide anything new. He just states what many of us already believe. This team only plays defense when it has to and the key for it to succeed come Cleveland and potentially the NCAAT is if the Zips buy into playing the full 40 minutes at both ends of the court. http://www.collegeinsider.com/mp3/Dambrot_02022017082207.mp3
  24. Well that's disappointing. Back in my day (5-10 years ago) those seats were taken up by the most vocal fans.
  25. It was going to happen. Just glad we got a local company.
