  1. Thanks for the reality check.
  2. Ok from "their" message board. I'm sure this post was written from his mom's basement in Rootstown: anti-zip Wrote: I'll be interested to see how we handle the pressure of the moment knowing that our guys have had this one circled since that MAC championship game. Hopefully we stay poised. I'll also be interested to see if the Akron fans have suddenly realized the game is not about them and they don't have a right to try to insert themselves into the things that occur between the lines. Since of course I have zero expectations here, I'll be curious to see if/when something happens how it is handled. I'd like to think after our last two games in front of Akron home crowds the MAC has made sure they have a plan to handle it, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Last time was objects (ice cubes?) thrown at Carry during a fast break. The time before that was a whistle from the crowd causing Whittington to stop mid layup resulting in a turnover. Both were met with a stern PA announcement to please not do that any more. After the way the game ended the last time we were in the JAR I sure hope the MAC understands that this s#it needs to stop yesterday. Here's hoping Payton gets his arms pits on the rim every time that collection of mouth breathers start to get "rowdy". At the last game when Akron’s crowd got out of hand (profane group cheers directed at Carry), I thought Akron’s President or AD should have grabbed the PA announcers microphone and talked to his students. Pull a “Sam Whyche” if you will. May have not helped but at least their leadership would have done something to try to stop it. I personally would have gone nuts if our students behaved like that! Whenever we play at Akron, our team should know what to expect by now and I certainly expect every one on our bench to be on their best behavior.
  3. could have been. she was shorter so i thought it was the point guard. either way. was bad.
  4. As a rule, the reffing in women's games makes it tough to watch.
  5. wake me up when it's over!! ugh, i will be there with my head in my hands for 2 hours.
  6. I'm not an expert on women's basketball or basketball in general. But there are some folks on here who are and have a sense of where the ball bounces with the administration. That aside, being a successful D1 coach requires some luck and the ability to make one's own luck. There's a school of thought that had Akron's Brian Walsh made a certain 10 foot jump shot in the 2012 MAC championship game John Groce wouldn't now be coaching the Zips. Had Buffalo's Segu made that 3 pointer in the quarters last year, the Zips could be a different program today. Groce has luck and makes his own luck. Dambrot, although a success, didn't have that luck. Buffalo's Oates had lots of luck but the ball doesn't bounce favorably for their current coach. Hell, Tom Arth had some horrible luck with Zips football. Losing by 2 points isn't what gets a coach fired. It's about not being able to seal the deal. Can she make the big decisions needed to turn things around. Last year, after a soul-crushing loss to Kent followed by two losses to bad MAC teams, Groce had to make a huge and hard decision that led his team to the MAC title...with some luck along the way. Maybe Jackson will do the same.
  7. I think it was Rasheed who grabbed a big rebound, didn't protect the ball, and the Kent player slapped it off Rasheed's leg. that led to a 3 pointer by Kent and they pulled away. Painful to watch.
  8. their men wore the same color last night. Of course, Akron's "gold" isn't much better. What's with the missed FTs? they know the ball is smaller, right?
  9. I'm not a fan of the white outs and theme games. I remember most of them being a bust in the KD era when the Zips usually lost those games. Keep it real. It's going to be a big game anyway. no need for gimmicks.
  10. As usual, Friday is "no big deal" to Coach Pinky: Kent State will play for sole possession of first place in the MAC on Friday when the team goes to Akron. Tipoff is at 9 p.m. “They are all big games,” Senderoff said. “We’re 8-1 now in the league, so whether we win on Friday or lose on Friday, there is a lot of basketball ahead of us. We have nine more regular-season games and we just have to worry about the basketball game and play as well as we can.”
  11. I have an overwhelming feeling of dread... I've taken to my bed for the next few days. Dread Definition & Meaning - Dictionary.com to fear greatly; be in extreme apprehension of: to dread death. to be reluctant to do, meet, or experience: I dread going to big parties.

  13. yes. sorry. that game hadn't finished. will fix. math is hard.
  14. Did this game fall exactly on the over/under? 145. And a classic post from the Buffalo Bulls message board: Big 4 Hoops Blogger Posted 9 minutes ago I think we're at the point where the results speak for themselves. Akron is good but they're not talented to the point where they should be handling UB on the road.
  15. A different type of win. Lots of turnovers and fewer trips to the foul line than the opponent. BUT...ironically, I was telling someone today about Freeman and Castaneda and how Zips have two guys on the floor who can go off for 30.
  16. Seedings as of tonight: 1. Suffield Tech (beat Ball State and Toledo) 2. Akron 3. Toledo 4. Ball State 5. NIU 6. Buffalo (beat Bowling Green) 7. Bowling Green 8. Eastern Michigan (correction. thanks ZipsRule)
  17. Total fail by BGSU at home. CMU had a chance but missed FTs and Suffield Tech pulled away. There's going to be a meltdown in Nelsonville
  18. The OU grads I know are very good people. Two obtained their doctorates in Physical Therapy at OU and they are amazing PTs and super nice guys. I think it's just their basketball fans.
  19. How it stands on Monday? 1. Suffield Tech 2. Akron 3. Toledo 4. Ball State 5. Buffalo: beat NIU and BG 6. Northern Illinois: Beat Garrettsville 7. Bowling Green 8. Ohio: beat Central Michigan Suffield Tech v Ohio Akron v Bowling Green Toledo v NIU Ball State v Buffalo
  20. when I looked at the MAC schedule at beginning of season, I had this and the early Ball State game circled as potential and likely losses. They will pick up a few more losses for the rest of the season. Looking at last year's schedule, Zips were at 2 MAC losses coming into the 1/28 Toledo game which they lost at Toledo. Then they won back to back with Miami and at DeKalb. Next thing we know, the bottom dropped out, and I was ready to cancel my vacation days for the MAC tournament. I like what @LoyalZIPsaid about winning the last two games differently. However, I thought they would win those even when it got close. I expect a let down tomorrow night, heading into Friday.
  21. If you look back on some clips of the 2019-2020 season the crowd was sparse as usual for many of MAC game. the final few games against Ohio and Kent were really crowded. There were a decent amount of OU fans there yesterday, including their former guard, Tommy Schmock, who clearly likes his beer. I don't much care about Joe Akron. but I do know the fans who are at these games love this team and the coaching staff.
  22. Whatever happens this week, it's so "nice" or whatever adjective to have Groce and his staff on the bench and even better that they don't need the likes of Carry, Payton and a washed-up Jim Christian to succeed. Side note. This is crazy...Tribble was here with Jeremy Roscoe...and is only a junior.
  23. Probably second year. During the empty gym year, they won a tournament game.
