Second request...still in the dark about these academies and needing enlightenment....
-
Could some of you more knowledgeable (than me) B-ball people explain to me about these academies, like IMG with this 6'11" guy? I read earlier in the threads also about the SPIRE Institute in Geneva having a team. Are these like Summer Camps or are they real substitutes or the real deal for high school? Do they play their seasons at the same time as high schools? And who do they play their gamrs against? Inquiring minds (well, mine) want to know.... Thanks in advance for your help....
-
Yes on James King, and he had an interception at the 5 to break up a drive by the Blue team....no on Jamal Davis nor Nate Stewart. One other player I failed to mention earlier was Dailey on defense. Had a couple big-time hits....unfortunately it was on his teammates.

Okay my turn, I thought of the two QBs Kato looked the best. Really the best look was Uecher! Tommy better get health quick. With Ball not playing, Manny Morgan looked better than Van Edwards, especially since he was up against the 1st team D. Kwadarius Smith looked the best WR, although Fransohn had some noce looks, but he is not sturdy. Kwad is and is tall and fast. Bennett was okay. Chapman has a ways to go in the transition. Defensively, it was Travonte Junius, John Lako, Deon'Tae Moore and Ibrahima Camara that stood out to me. Official attendance - 3,100!!! And....I think I have the line on the cookies!!!!

Good luck to the netters, under-reported in the press as usual. The team has been at the top now for the recent past and hope they finish big.

I remember Szoke, as I had him for Calculus and Diffy Q. He would also implore all the guys to forget the girls...he would say "You have to MARRY Math, to be a good engineer...forget the girls!" Title 9 was NOT around back then... On a more footballsy note....has anyone seen the rosters fo tomorrow yet? GoZips.com said they would be announced today....or are they not writing today 'cause it's Friday?

Keri was a solid assistant here, but IMO the program never capitalized on her ties to the Internationals and Clubs in the area for recruiting. She was only coach her for a few years, 2012 through 2014, under Vernon. Would have liked it if she had a look for the HC job before they hired Noreen...not sure if she did or didn't. She seemed to connect with the women on the team. Different philosophies than the head coach at the time? Dunno. Played with the Terps at Maryland, to boot. Good for her on the new assignment!

Thanks mes102.....appreciate the help!

Didn't realize this section was for mens and womens soccer till I just read sub heading. Posted thread in "other sports" for womens schedule if anybody is interested...
-
Wow! Noreen just released the women's 2017 regular season schedule and it is loaded. Twelve home matches! That's the most I can remember in the past 7 or 8 years. MAC matches vs. Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Ohio U, Miami, Ball State and Buffalo. Non-MAC against Milwaukee, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Cleveland State, Niagra, Dayton and Duquesne. Great ot see this many home dates...wish they could work out a Women/Men doubleheader like they did a few year's back....

I'm going to be lazy and go back to my old Rubber Bowl TG-ing...stopping by Acme to get 2 rotisserie chickens and put them in the cooler to keep them warm, and then run by Hamburger Station and pick up a Family Pack and also go by the drive-thru and get a bag of Kettle Cook'd chips from Massillon and a dozen Guiness Blondes...I know this is a weenie question, but has anyone tried thoe Watermelon Shandys from Leinienkugel?
-
I say under 2 grand. Nice day in April in Akron means do outside work or play, not sit at a meaningless psuedo game. I've been to twoandamsuprisedto hear one was 2,200. If the team had gone to a second bowl game, or went to the MAC Championship game....maybe 3,000.
-
Okay, so looked up Byrne, and no he's not the Kvin Byrne from Stow, but...ironically he got his Masters degree from...wait for it...Duquesne!
-
Is this the Kevin Byrne that played b-ball at Stow?
-
A few seasons ago I bought a game-day football jersey that I loved...heavy, and lots of room for my belly to grow into as the FB season went on! It dod still have a faint odor to it, that Wifey didn't like.... Is it implied in the GoZips piece that more than just football stuff on sale?

Saw Dusty Burkhart at a HS track meet tonight. Ran 100, 4 x 100 relay and long jumped. Don't know about his hands, but he has speed. Very quick off start line and maintains velocity through the finish line. Second in the LJ but nursing his hammy a little. Plus he's excited to be Zip! Had a Z hat on and a ZIPS tee on between races.

I agree mes, local media is not going to get off their behinds to do the legwork to be informative. They're spoiled by getting daily PR stuff from OSU SIDs and just cutting and pasting.

Limiting the AD a little with such a small list.... (:

Dambrot says 'yes' to Duquesne this time
ZipsVoice replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
A lot of comments about being recharged, re-excited...I've been dwelling on the situation since he announced he was moving and it finally hit me I was kinda looking forward to the new regime...new staff, new style, new players, grief and angst (we're fans, right?). When I was first financially able to go to games on a regular basis, it was Huggins' team, and season tickets were not cheap. When he left and we got Crawford, I could affort chairbacks up top for the first time. And I felt like I was a part of soething new. Basketball sucked, wore a paper bag over my head towards the end, but still went and was part of my "Section Community". Because Crawford was so bad, when Hipsher came, lower chairbacks were more abundant and I could afford 4! And it was exciting again...new. Of course KD's taken it all to a higher level, but as I look back, It's gotten stale to me. So maybe I'll be back for more home games this next season, and will probably pay more attention to the minutea again...Just some thoughts from an old guy. -
Elton was a little off wasn't he? didn't we beat South Carolina a few years back in the Charleston Classic? Non-power 5?

K's right. So Herb Page gets paid 5 grand less than Dambrot was making, and gets to play golf all day? And besides Clark wanting to learn fencing, I'm pretty sure I'd take a couple grand less to learn how to teach women to row a "boat"..... -
I'e got Jatavis Brown...Dalton Williams...Marquelo Suel...Robert Stein...Jawon Chisolm...JoJo Natson...Connor Hundley...Cody Grice...Martel Durant...and Andrew Pratt....

No offense mes102, but I disagree...Coach Pfau was a terrible coach, and an even worse recruiter. He got the women's team into a MAC East Championship, but the league was very very week that season. He had no connection with the power clubs in Ohio, and his assistant coaches were always involved in behind-the-scenes power struggles. He treated the players like they were still high school girls, and not women. Vernon wasn't a lot better. Watch Noreen, she's going to impress you ....

Once again MD I am in if you are doing this and I am in for 2 tickets, or seats or whatever....

skip-zip is right, where are the kiddos? I too go to all the weeknight games, but I go right afer work and hit a local haunt for a few adult beverages, then head to the car and suit up with the woolies and head for the seats. I happen to enjoy night games for some reason...i hate the cold and if starts to get wet, I'm outa there. But what I really hate are the loooooong time outs due to TV. The Guy With The Red Sleeve pisses me off when he walks on the field, indicating an intermidable delay is ahead. Since there's no traffic to speak of afterwards, I have no excuse to stop for a nightcap. But I usuallly do, because you need to after the crappy game you just watched. i too was at the RB for Murray State and Marshall, and I wish I had one half of football on weeknights that I could get that excited about, but I can't recall one...or half of one....But - BUT - what about skip-zip's question. Where the hell are the students????
