Heck, one of the reasons we all come to ZipsNation is BECAUSE there is no other place to find information about our 'Roos. This IS the place that is the alternative to George and Elton. I do try to bring to the board info on the lesser sports like swimming and diving, track and field, softball, and women's soccer just to fill in the info-starved Zips fans who want to know more that stuff about Bball and FBall. So, I'd be glad to contribue articles to an on-line publication if we ever got something like that going....but for now this is our On-Line sports news for Zips fans....

Another reason I was surprised to see us at a top ten position is the fact that the MAC is really going to weigh us down, as usual, except for SIU now. But pre-season rankings, in my opinion, doesn't take into account the upcoming schedules, just a listing of teams' strengths and weaknesses. Coaches polls and some of the reliable periodicals during regular season should give us a better snapshot of how good the Zips might be. Of course we all know the SOS plays a huge role in the NCAA selection process and seeding, so we're basically screwed there, and we must, once again, win the MAC to proceed to the tourneys....I'm starting to think Reggie L might become a solid defender, if he can handle the minutes from a fitness standpoint. Got a flyer for the Cigars and Cognacs Experience host by MSOC on August 19th....anyone going? Anyone gone in the past?

Thanks for catching that...I was confused, I knew there were incoming freshmen, but I was worried they de-commited or didn'tmake grades, or I don't know, maybe I was drinking too much! I am also in agreement about Ezana...there were times last season that he could dominate. Needs consistency.

Penn State Exhibition just 16 days away. Regular Season right behind. Who'll be the Zips #1 scoring threat, and who'll be the consistent defensive stalwart in 2017? It's a pretty seasoned team, no true freshmen. I'm placing my bets on Sudden Sam Gainford to be biggest threat, and Nick Hinds to step up this season on D. Maybe Shane too? Your thoughts?

I was at that game! That was a nice tourney and talk about a phenomenal mid-range basketball facility! Charleston has it...

After an entertaining match last night, D-Nags is getting lots of praise. This from Grapham Parker at The Guardian, Britain's Daily football articles, Midfield We’ve mentioned Bradley and Acosta, but the link-up play of Darlington Nagbe got a sustained airing in this tournament, and of all the players in this US roster he may have done the most to solidify his claim. Clever, great on the ball, and always capable of driving at the box and earning dangerous free kicks, Nagbe also has a range of subtle movement in midfield that can be very effective for combining with Bradley when he’s making himself available for the ball further forward. Nagbe’s occasional diffidence is the knock against him – his positioning in the El Salvador quarter final threatened to make him anonymous. But then again he was quiet in the final before his smart run forward started the move that won the free kick Altidore scored from, while the more visible Arriola did plenty of conspicuous work without being noticeably more effective.

This is great, and a good reason to watch what should be a snoozer...but we all know the red white and blue can botch up a sure thing at times...but ME87 is right...USA all the way!

For all of us lucky and excited about the Gold Jacket Dinner on the 4th, I read on line that we are supposed to get dressy. Suggested the men wear a coat and tie, women a dress or fancy pant suit....just so we don't embarrass the U (and ourselves!)

He and staff need to win 7 games each season. And the recruiting classes both years need to include 75% incoming freshmen, not JUCO and year-of-eligibility-left graduated players. Show me you are trying to build a program, not just do it year-to-year with smoke and mirror wishing. Maybe I's go 6 win this year seven next. Losing season this year should cause Big Mike to pull trigger now and buyout his last season. And also he needs to tell wifey to dress her age.

Yeah LZ they do do these things. Almost every sport offers some nights/days and multiple times for organizations to attend and compete, with banners, attendance numbers, spirit nights, etc. Marketing may not do a great job as far as we see outside the campus, but remeber they are mostly grad students or students themselves, and they don't "think" this through as savy as a seasoned sports marketing person would. No excuses, just been around a lot fo them and they are still just kids. They do promote their assigned sport, and they are very disappointed when they can't find people to attend, or even for their time-out or halftime competitions for our entertainment. The students just don't give a . Hell, even they night at football they were giving away thousands of $$$ in scholarship and housing money there couldn't have been 1,000 studnets in attendance, so what's that tell you? You can't buy their love!

Cykron's new here and will probably be gone after the ISU game, so cut him some slack...but I agree about the other stuff....

I love LeBron, have since he was finally out of the high school hype machine, but I can't see him doing anything that would influence attendance at football games. Maybe basketball, but not football. And to what extent would his influence have? Maybe another 2,000 people and why? Just because he might be at the game or he has his students that he supports come to the games? Advertising on local TV and radio and newspapers (HAH!)? I don't think LeBron is part of the problem, but definitely not even an iota of the solution. Even if he did do SOMETHING it might have a short term (1 or 2 games) effect, but long term....this town, county, metropolis, region just will not support MAC football, no matter how great your team is, or how many locals you have playing, or how much local celebrities sing your praises.

Totally agree...funny, I was disappointed he didn't try the double in the O Trials, but this shows what can happen. Wish the schedule would have had the 8s first....or 1 less heat.

Well that didn't go well. Clayton tried both 800 and 1500 at U.S. Nationals, qualified for both finals, hurt himself in the 1,500 finishing last, and scratched in the 800 finals. No London for the zips, current or former, unless Barber goes for Canada. Sorry for Clayton, he's beendoingso well this outdoor season...

Watched the kid in high school probably 3 times as a junior, 4 as a senior. Really needs to improve on his aggression level. Spread himself real thin in HS early with multiple sports, but when he concentrated on FB he improved. IMO he won't see lots of time this year. Slowwwwwww right now on reaction time.
