  1. Thanks, man...too many Summer Shantys, I guess!
  2. This time it counts....Zips WSOC win their first regular season match of 2018, 3-0 over Green Bay. A little disorganized to start the match but then settled into a nice attack in the second, similar to Friday night. Erica Schrader seems to like the leadership role and Baughman, Corrigan and O'Brien look more relaxed now they have a season or two under them. Jiu in goal is sure going to be a factor going forward. Now the first road trip and the competition gets a little tougher. I like 1-0-1 after the first weekend though.
  3. Sorry 'Kron...it's all I can do (or care about) with the Zips, let alone Penn State.
  4. I posted something on Mike in the Winter, and haven't changed my opinion yet. I watched him play all his high school games here in Stow, as well as basketball and baseball games. Great kid, great upside, great long term potential, but I think it was a stretch to go to a P5 school for him, and have him expect a lot of PT his first two seasons. He'll have to learn (like most freshmen) that the game is so much faster than they expected. I'm not saying Mike won't be a solid contributor down the line, but not his freshman year, unless PSU goes deep with injuries. I may be wrong and time will tell, and I'll gladly take the ribbing if I am proven wrong.
  5. I have always liked the way the Zips have done just that in the past, and they were usually confident that even if the attack was thwarted, the center mids would have the pace and spacing to collect any breakups and prevent any quick counters, while keeping the ball in the offensive third. Maybe no confidence in the support yet?
  6. Not a bad start for WSOC. 8 freshmen start against 2 time defending champ Milwaukee from Horizon League, and picked to win again in 2017. 0-0 draw, with the team looking stronger as match progressed. Impressed with frosh keeper Amani Jiu, who made some very athletic saves, and commanded the backs well. Also, freshmen Wilson twins are strong, fast and relentless. St. V/St. M product Catie Corrigan shows good offensive skills and a good boot. Tomorrow should be a chance to see how quickly they rebound from an overtime match on two day rest.
  7. Rightly so...can't tell you how many time you see MSOC at WSOC's games, and not just before/afer training. Also, there's atleast 1 budding romance of a MSOC and a VB...see Balsy, I'm getting usd to the new nomenclature! MSOC, WSOC,VB...
  8. I was surprised PSU played so few players, vs. Spreadig the minutes like Zips. Gainford looks like he's ready now, and E-Z looked dangerous too. Smothering D however. Nice. thanks for the link TennZip...
  9. And I was just trying to be witty in my post....I have not, nor will I appropriate the trademark Zipsnation, which is really ZipsNation, two caps...for anything going henceforth...don't want to run afoul of the correctness issues...
  10. What about "post season"???????
  11. See, I was worried about that "Lady" thingy...hence going with the "Women" tag...I know Noreen doesn't want them playing "lady-like" soccer! So I guess my old age is showing, whilst trying to be PC!
  12. And if you two are buying, I'll stop by and write a personal interest article on you two for our first edition of our ZipsNation Sports Magazine/Webzine!!!
  13. Hopefully we'll be saying that more this year. Today was a good step forward. Exhibition win over Robert Morris in PA. Lots of youngsters on this squad, so who knows, but we'll get a look Friday under the lights and Sunday afternoon. My quess is 5 wins, but possibly 8 optimistically. 4 and 7 MAC record, but if things fall in place 5 and 6 and a berth in MAC tourney. Catie Corrigan, Shea O'Brien and Erica Schrader keys, and newcomers Rylie Howman and keeper Grace Young should be contributors. Still more fun than 5 seasons ago...
  14. See? I wasn't completely wrong!
  15. I agree about Bickley. He sure seemed exciting as a freshman and then disappeared....
  16. "What could be better than watching a good ol' bitter rivalry ON A TUESDAY NIGHT?" How about watching it on a warm Saturday afternoon in September say at 3 p.m.
  17. Yeah it was...is. And really it was unheard of back then to have corporate names and naming rights...most of the moolah was state and federal, with company's giving gifts but to the institution to use as seen fit, andnot as blatantly advertisement-oriented as today.
  18. Thanks for the info skip-zip...
  19. The REAL tragedy of naming the facility the Jame A. Rhodes arena was that the U had to work some superfluous areas of the arena into a set footprint for the building, to "honor" Rhodes, and that extra space/extra expenditure reduced what should have been a better arena into a mediocre one, right from the start. Less seats, the indoor track, the use of bleachers upstairs....all because we needed more square footage for a lounge, offices, and lots of lobby that could have been placed elsewhere and alllowed a bettwe seating bowl, up and down.
  20. No disrespect nor an ethnic slur, but this name must be like our "John Smith"s
  21. Woah....I got really confused when I read this. I know Joao Moutinho to be a Portugese footballer that plays for their national team and for AC Monaco in Lige 1. This cannot be the same guy, that guy is like 31 years old. I actually "owned" Joao Moutinho on my team on EASports FIFA15. Different player, right?
  22. But I've got to say, and I hope there's more than a few of us out there that have these experiences....What made the whole evening was sharing it with my son, who was at my side at the tailgates and in the Rubber Bowl for all of JT's games, and sat beside me for this wonderful evening....I'm tearing up writing this, so....for now...GO ZIPS!
  23. Gold Jackets to the right of me.... Stuck in the middle with you....
  24. Gold Jackets to the left of me....
  25. First off, thanks so much to MDZip for getting this to happen, and for letting us meet his wonderful Mom and Dad. I enjoyed talking to his Father about football. And it was great to put faces to K92, ZipsWin! and Zippyfan34. Next off - what a freakin' wonderful time! This was an amazing awe-inspiring evening. As K92 said, as we arrived, I was expecting a little more intimate gathering, as our ticket had a seating chart on it with like 100 tables of 8, so I thought....NO! we were in ONE room of many, and after dinner we were escorted into the main auditorium and there were all the dignitary tables on the floor level and mezzanine and we all filled into the seating area. The dais was at least 30 feet off the floor, and we were then part of the show. Once again to echo K92, I was overwhelmed as each of about 120 current Gold Jackets were announced and they came to the floor....Jim Bron, Troy Aikman, Paul Warfield, Jerome Bettis, Curly Culp (our host!), Emmit Smith, Roger Staubach, Tony Dungy, and on and on and on. We even got to hear Warren Buffett sing!! (I am not kidding!) Zippyfan34 said I had to post this so I will.... I was the lucky winner at our table of the center piece!!
