  1. I too am worried about the deco dart. In fact, I was telling my grandson the other day, if you want a chance to make a DI school football roster, forget long snapping and place kicking, move to deco dart....
  2. The Zippers sent a diver, a relay team and 3 individuals to the NCAAs in swimming and diving this weekend. Which is great! Our women have won 4 straight MAC Championships, which is also great. The best finish was 24th. Which is still great, this is not about poor finishes. Allie Myers sets a school record in the 100 freestyle and takes 24th. I guess it shows how unbelievably competitive swimming is. I mean, we have a really good team, and Myers is one of the best. Swim a record and finish 24th. But still, a great season and the fact that we sent these women to the Big Swim is impressive. Bit I was also thinking how beastly our track and field teams are, that we came away from the NCAAs in T & F with 3 first team and 2 second team all-americans. The swimmers and divers will continue to dominate, and their MAC Championships will pay off in recruiting, and the medals will continue. Kinda rambling here...too much NCAA B-Ball watching!

  3. I am a complete butthead, doubting their resolve and see thrm come through. A step forward indeed for them, and maybe I'll learn to be less doubtful.
  4. Still doesn't take the sting away from MAC non-Championship, but hey, the Zips have 5 new All-Americans in Track and Field, which is, believe it or not, A BIG DEAL. Lucy Bryan, freshman, All-American in Pole Vault, finishing 4th with the second best Zip vault height ever. Terrell McClain, All American in Long Jump. Matt Ludwig, All American in Pole Vault and won the bronze. Second team All-Americans are Nikki Manson in High Jump and Jackie Seifirng in Pentathalon. Nice job, guys and girls. Plus nice work coaches....

  5. I agree, I too cannot see this team playing "up" for any more games this year. It's over. Every year it's over, once outside the NCAA, heck, inside too. Akron SHOULD look at an NIT berth as a second chance, but they don't and they won't. Never have, never will. They're feeling sorry for themselves because they lost last night, they believe they are better than they are, and they'll fold up the tent no matter who they play in the NIT, CBA, Vegas, CYO, Akron Industrial League playoffs, etc.
  6. Thank you. I thought I was not going to be allowed to complain. We never seem to have the "stuff" that is instilled in you to do what it takes to be a champion, instead of just "good enough". Three quarters of the season in, we have national press coverage, a ho e winstreak being talkedabout, and compared to some big programs on the net with twelve 20 plus winning seasons, and we completely implode amd are now just a footnote to the 2017 success story of kent-state-still-sucks....why?
  7. While all eyes are on the Q tonight for the MAC semis, I'm going to keep my left eye tuned to ESPN3 as they livecast today and tomorrow's NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Feild Championships from College Station TX. Our Zips have 5 competitors down there. In fact, in 45 minutes Jackie Seifring will be starting the Pentathalon with the 60 meter hurdles and the event is completed all in one day. She's ranked #4 in the nation coming in. Matt Ludwig will be trying to keep the Zip streak alive at the podium in the pole vault tonight as the #7 best in the country and teammate Terrell McClain, ranked 6th competes in the men's long jump. Women's high jump is tonight, with Nikki Manson, ranked #12 jumps, and Lucy Bryan completes the 5-some for Akron tomorrow in the women's pole vault as the 7th best in the nation. Pretty cool...Let's go Zips! Quick update - FYI, Only other MAC athletes are 2 throwers from Kent-State-Still-Sucks, 1 EMU distance runner and 1 Miami athlete. 5 ZIPS! Friday night update - Sophomore Matt Ludwig wins bronze in pole vault...

  8. Gary Waters and family put an offer in on the house next door to us when he first came to coach at Kent State. I was glad he didn't accept the counter offer, would have been tough on me to keep my "Kent State Still Sucks" sign in the window...but it might have been fun to talk B-ball with him....
  9. I got 3 out of 4 right. Is that worth anything?
  10. An all Michigan night, plus the team closest to it's border without actual being in the state...
  11. Clayton made us proud just a few minutes ago by winning the USATF National Indoor Championships in the 1,000 meter run in Albuquerque. Patented Murphy kick helped finish thos ome off. Fastest time in the world this season at that distance. Plus, Dwight Stone, while doing color commentating, mentioned Clayton still finishing his degree at U of A, and that he was still working with coach Lee Labadie, and mentioned that Lee ran a 3:58 mile while runnIng for he Illini...and NBC Sports Network running commercials for USATF gear with Clayton modeling some pullovers....and sooo humble too.
  12. Yeah, and they even had a map!!! With a colored Mapquest route between the campii...they finally "put Akron on the map"!! . Okay, no more,Yuengling for me....
  13. What HS is Cameron Victor attending?
  14. Did he really? Wow, didn't know that. That is top drawer. I respect him even more, becasue he did it quietly....I agree, good dude.
  15. And then there's the matter of kickoff times...we won't know those until 10 days before each game. It's hard enough to get people to come to InfoCision, let alone not know early enough to actually make plans to attend. "Oh, the Zips are playing, but is it a noon start, a 1 start, a 3 start?" And certainly one of those Tuesay night games will start late enough and have enough Media timeouts to assure leaving the stadium well after midnight.. .
  16. I second what mivid12 says....and Thanks Mom!
  17. And the tank will still be full next season to make it 5 in a row...loads of underclass talent, not to diss the current talented seniors!
  18. Oh yeah, according to Mom it's the coaches fault that two grown adult men fell asleep, probably with their Beats on, and missed their flight...no responsibility but the coaches...
  19. Abso-damn-lutely!!! Abso-dominant-lutely too!!!
  20. I am no expert on this subject either, but I do go to a lot of Zip women's soccer, swimming and track games/meets/matches. I am not sure about volleyball, but I think the previous coaching staff was rather high school-esque in their approach to the game and abysmal at recruiting. I know one of the current player's parents as aquaintences and they seem to be pleased with the new regime but said it will take some time to turn around what he inherited. Track and field - they just won (today) the indoor MACs over a talented field of 11 other MAC schools, and have been 1st or 2nd in indoor and outdoor the last four seasons. Jumps are top notch, sprints strong after a few off years, weights are down after two all americans left. But they recruit so well, and their coaching staff is so solid and productive. What they have is depth at almost every event. Swimming and diving is similar, with a team that never finished better than eighth in the MAC transformed into winning four straight MAC titles (they'll wrap up #4 tonight). Why? A coaching staff that blends hard work and having fun, with smart recruiting. Peresie arived and trained smart and got total buy in from the women and here we are. Soccer - Wow. I don't know. You'd think that with the men's success, and the top drawer facilities and support that they would at least be a .500 club. I mean, the MAC is tough, with Kent, Buffalo, Miami, Western, Ball State and Toledo strong, but their off-MAC schedule has been pretty easy. Cleveland State, Robert Morris, Clarion....Coaching may be the answer here too. I think 4 head coaches in the last 8 years? And none were really college coaches, more club coaches and there seemed to always be drama on the team. This Herlihy coach though seems tough as nails and a winner. Granted Slippery Rock isn't Notre Dame, but the MAC isn't the ACC. I think her recruiting classes the past two years look promising, but she inherited an empty pantry, so it may not turn around quickly. And speaking of recruiting...track and swimming have recruited internationally....france, israel, spain, england, germany...not a lot but the one's they get are tops. All are all-MAC and Soeme have ended up NCAA qualifiers. Okay....more thananyone wanted to read, I am sure.....
  21. Thanks for finding this article TZ. How do you feel about the proposal? I know this proposal takes the student athletes and coaches priorities at its heart. But as a fan, I don't know how I feel about it. Would the split season be one season wih a long break, or would it be two seperate seasons like theydo in the MX pro league? When Are the NCAA Championships to be held, and are there going to be a fall Soccer Cup and a Spring one? Would that s affect all three divisions of the NCAA? Lots of questions, I know....
  22. I am tired of the MAC bringing these one sport schools in. Temple, UMass, and how many times did the MAC let Marshall get in and out (although in multiple sports)? They always have one eye on the door for the next conference opportunity. And looking at soccer, Kentucky, Hartwick....when will West Virginia leave? The NCAA DI conference death march continues....the big eat the small until?
  23. I remember going to the "ballet" on Main Street, that was a juice bar, anything went, after a Zips vs. Western Illinois game in the DII era (don't EVEN bring up my age!) and upon arrival, seeing my ex-High School sweetheart dancing nude....what a win, and what a night!
  24. Former Zip running back Hakeem Lawrence ran a blazing 6.72 in the 60 meter dash at SPIRE in the NCAA DI Invitational, the third fastest time in that event in Zips history. And WR Kwadarius Smith looked pretty damn fast in the same event, finishing 4th at 6.83 seconds. Boy is Hakeem a specimen upper body-wise. Dan Ludwig continues to shine in mens PV and Becky Szabo surprised by winning the women's PV there as well. MAC Championship 2 weeks away....should be a good one, although I'm going to SPIRE again to watch the Big 10 Indoor Championships...closer to home.

  25. Hey MD Zip...I am DEFINITELY interested in either one of your ideas, if you are going to put something together for a table or a group of seats. Keep me posted on your progress but please tentatively count me in!
