I still don't know why we can't start the MAC Schedule with Can't. Even if both teams are terrible good weather has a better chance of getting people to show up for the game. I thought when we did that in the mid 2000s the attendance results were great but then they sent it to the end of the year again. Unless both teams are battling for the MAC East Title you're bound to have one set of fans sitting at home not attending.

So Homecoming, a win against Pitt and $10 alumni tickets with free hot dog and soda brought us the fewest fans this year - 8,800. The Miami game will see us with our first winning record since 2008 but if the weather is like today I can't imagine we'll see much uptick aside from some Miami fans (are there any Miami fans left after their losing streak?). The final two games are Tuesday night affairs....will those games even draw 5,000?

What does iCoach say in an interview that gets him hired? What could he have possibly told YouTube Tom to get him to hire him or was it just a bad recommendation?

Attendance this week has a chance to be up but EMU will not bring anyone so it will have to be all Akron. It is homecoming but once again a traditionally good thing at most schools generally means nothing at Akron. I will be there next week. First opportunity to get to a game this year. Can't wait to see if they can keep the momentum.

As bummed as I was last week I think I'm that happy for the program this week. I watched the first half on my computer but had to be in the car and at a birthday party for the 2nd half. I left the birthday party (my daughters) and listened to the last 6 minutes in the car. Great win! Congratulations Zips. Was it the helmets? I think it's in the helmets! Keep wearing the helmets.

With Wisconsin being so close to Chicago it seems they took offense to N. Illinois ad and laid claim to at least Northern Illinois' team being Wisconsin. The Akron loss to Marshall was no surprise. People wonder why nobody comes to the games. Read that line again. Nobody even gave Akron a chance to beat Marshall. If you had no affiliation with the school why would you waste a perfectly good Saturday to watch a team that nobody expects to win. Don't give me the college football slant either. As far as the average fan is concerned the only difference between us and YSU is they win games. Quick question though....say this team loses to Pitt then runs the table until the UMass game. The team is sitting at 7-3 on a Tuesday night in November. I don't think the team sees 10K people at that game. BTW that game is listed as ESPNU or ESPN3. So we may actually be playing on a Tuesday night and not even getting any national exposure because we'll be on ESPN3....how does that happen.

All of a sudden everyone is back to reality after just a week ago bitching about coverage in local newspapers butchering the guys who write but aren't given the ability to cover Akron like they are OSU. Now you all understand why they don't get the coverage but a week ago you didn't. Anyone see the PD this week? Guess what kind of coverage we got after this stinker? John Carroll above the fold in Sports with a OSU article on the side. Winning is how you get coverage not the other way around....oh yeah and no where in that plan did it say year 3 get your head kicked in by a decent team. My glasses aren't as rosé colored as everyone else's after yesterday.

Glad to hear you're still positive and MAC Title is all you want. You are a perfect Akron fan that is all they are ever concerned with too. I was hoping we would get a marquee win someday but that appears to only be for other MAC teams.

Maybe this team can't be turned around. Maybe it is just that simple. Every year I am excited for football....every freaking year and outside of one year (which was so much fun) I am disappointed.

C'mon Cap'n...you don't need my opinion to be delusional about Akron's team you're clearly on your way all by yourself (I will admit you might actually just be ahead of the curve here too). I was simply trying to be a little realistic. I was also asking a question about the ad...who are we calling out if we beat Marshal? Are we calling out Pitt, OSU, the MAC? It seems a bit cocky for a team that couldn't beat a very beatable Penn State team and has not had much recent success in football to call anyone out. Shouldn't we at least finish .500 one year before we get cocky? I understand N. Illinois calling out Illinois. They have the best track record recently of schools in Illinois. We don't have the best track record recently of the program within 15 miles of us....sucks to hear that doesn't it but we aren't too far removed from the worst coaching hire in possibly the history of college football and three putrid seasons. I see no reason to be a cocky is my point or to put out an ad telling someone they are next.

What's the message? We lost to an average PSU Team but we want OSU? How about we win before you guys get delusional....and not just Marshall. N Illinois has history of winning recently...we didnt even win our last game.

This team has come along way under Bowden. I fully expect them to be bowling this year and in the conversation for MAC Champion.

C'mon guys the coaches coached this game scared. Amato barely blitzed at all to pressure the QB. Bowden took no chance downfield on offense. This Zips team was primed to win this game and could of but the coaches took it out of the kids' hands. I feel really bad for players.

Didn't realize you can't have a sin tax anymore...that is dumb. Why mess with something that works...sure it's boring but I am not goin for exciting I was going for effective.

Everyone time I read this stupid statement I cringe. The area of Cleveland where Quicken Loans and Progressive Field are was desolate and nothing was there with the exception of an Army Navy Surplus store. Do you remember what Prospect used to be known for....hookers in Cleveland. The area is now a full blown entertainment district with world renown restaurants. This argument has to stop...however they are using the statistics is obviously bullshit. Then let's talk about the actual tax dollars...the penny for every beer or wine ordered that goes to pay for it. Those taxes aren't breaking anyone. Those new stadiums spurred the growth of DT Cleveland to a point where they are now struggling to keep up with DT housing needs. DT Cleveland boasts a 95%+ occupancy rate for apartments with more coming online all the time. I think the tax structure outlined as part of this argument is all wrong. I'd love to see a so called "sin tax" to pay for this too.

What a great hire! I thought for sure this guy was in line for a bigger step than the MAC. Going tobe some different ball being played in Athens. I think he can save the players rumored to be leaving too.

The attendance police on here need a dose of reality. Attendance means nothing. In 2004 UCF had attendance of 19K per game, were 0-8 in the MAC and 0-11 overall the next year they were in Conference USA. In other threads GP1 and others have pondered the dividing of Division 1 into two distinct Division 1 categories -- BCS conferences and non-BCS conferences. The driving force behind this seems to be football conferences. I'm not sure why we don't see a future in Football only conferences, Basketball only conferences, Soccer only Conferences. College athletics have proven they are all about the almighty dollar. You can't tell me there would be more money in aligning football teams together and basketball teams together. I believe College athletics as we know is changing and I'm not sure any of use understand the future. When schools like Rutgers and Maryland are playing in the Big10 (what a dumb name anymore) then how far are we away from the same conference telling Illinois and Indiana they aren't welcome in the Big10 any more. Building on post above if you could take the Zips and 11 other teams from the Non-BCS conferences and put them in a new conference what would that conference look like in your mind? It is really difficult because the teams you'd like the most in that conference are on the West Coast.

@g-mann these are the players who KD decided to recruit. I think that falls directly on KD. He is the one who made the decision to recruit the guys who are on the floor nobody else. Last year should have been the year for this program with Abreu and Q. Would have loved to see how this program would have done with both of those guys all season. These two being out also then impacts the flow of recruits into the program. Perhaps KD didn't recruit a guy because he expected to have those guys. Betancourt was going to be a back up player this year he wasn't supposed to be the starter or play significant minutes. Unfortunately I think things don't get better next year.

I'm definitely not through with KD. I remember the Crawford and Hipsher eras at UA to vividly but something needs to change. If I'm YouTube Tom my post season performance evaluation meeting has to be straight talk no BS. KD might have to do some soul searching and determine if he has the right coaching staff. So much promise with this program and yet no real big wins to show during his tenure with basically no post season success outside of the MAC Tourney.

This is exactly who this team is and has been for years. There was a post the other day from Ada Zip that pointed this out. This team gets to the tournament and loses....doesn't matter which tournament. They've been to what eight post-season tourneys and in the KD era and won 2 games. We should just expect it at this point.

I agree with Ada Zip 100%. As much as I've loved the fun we've had under Dambrodt the lack of post season success is really frustrating. KD is easily the best thing to happen to this program in a long time and I'm very happy he's our coach. I would love to see this team win the CIT and use it as a springboard to next season. Fingers crossed KD finds a JUCO transfer to replace the offense we will lose with Q. I'd also like to see another PG brought in that can handle the rock and lead the team. I think back to some of the better PG we've had here and wish we had one like Dru Joyce with this team...man that would be awesome. Rashon Brown, Hollingsworth, Ball, Dials....any one of them would have made this team pretty awesome. Evans and Betancourt seem like great backups but not great starters.
