I'm very interested in seeing how the program progresses this year and next. I think these are extremely important years for the program. The transition from Lolla to Porter went well. I sure hope the transition from Porter to Embick goes equally well. It would be a shame if the program didn't continue with the success that has been all to common at Akron.

Missing from the article are the two players speculated on here on the board. The DL from Florida State and the Linebacker who may or may not have a year left of eligibility. If both turn out to be true that could really help the defense.

I would hope that with the success of Harney and Treadwell he would see the viability of the pay your own way for a year approach. A PG who can score would be quite helpful on this team.

I have Dan Patrick on as I work during the day and just noticed Bobby Hurley is going to be on the show today. I tweeted at the show during the Zips streak asking for an interview with KD but nothing and now Hurley will be on the show after doing nothing. Apparently Hurley is doing what they'd hoped he would and garner them attention.

Transfer DL from Florida State
Big Zip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I would also say the fact that they have very little information on Shayne also would lead one to believe he might not be on the team. He is a little dude for a D-Lineman. -
DIG -- where you one of the people who kept saying Butler can't beat this team or Butler can't beat that team when they made their runs to the finals?

Dambrot open to Q home game and major schedule upgrade
Big Zip replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Jimmal Ball's freshman year where he scored 44 points --- 3 OT game loss to Xavier. -
Funny you wrote a whole post based on two words in one tweet. You probably shouldn't read anything if that is all it takes to send you over the edge. The other three tweets still made me chuckle. On a side note Mentor won the State Championship in Ohio yesterday with their form of havoc. A team that doesn't have single Div. 1 basketball player on the team My only point is to share that at the high school level it seems that team work and pressing fast paced defensive game plan looks like a substitute for having "pure athletes" and in college it seems to be the exact opposite. Not to say the Mentor team isn't talented but some of the teams they've been this year and on the road to the state championship had quite a few more talented players.

Loved some of the tweets I saw yesterday: 1Michigan played this game like they were Akron's pissed off older brother. Shaka probably regrets pressing his kids legs off up 25 now. 2PILE IT ON and keep those starters in -- right Shaka?!? 3I hope Michigan starts pressing VCU when they get up by 30....#Karma4#Shaka regretting running up the score on Akron? VCU dead legs.

Dambrot open to Q home game and major schedule upgrade
Big Zip replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
DIG I know the entire history of these two I'm merely stating put your money where your mouth is and schedule VCU regularly. KD needs to put his person emotions behind him and leverage the relationship he has with Shaka for a regular home and home. Scheduling needs to be emotion free and targeted at doing what is doing best for the and a home and home with VCU would certainly be beneficial to the program. -
Dambrot open to Q home game and major schedule upgrade
Big Zip replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I put it in a previous thread but it seems more appropriate here. I would love to see KD schedule VCU regardless of how "painful" it is to play against Shaka's team. Shaka might even be willing to give us a home and home in the JAR instead of going to the Q. The Akron community knows who VCU is and would certainly draw interest not to mention the competition would be great for the team. -
He's actually on a much better station with a stronger signal out of Cleveland now 92.3.

Listening to Carmen this morning and he was showing his normal love for OSU while denigrating the MAC. He said school like Akron and other schools from the MAC should just be happy to be invited to tournament. Comical piece to this is he is hosting the sports banquet. If this is how Akron treats the people who publicly treat the program perhaps they have bigger problems.

Butler and Xavier leaving A10...opportunity?

@Zipper thanks for the correction. I must have been so distraught at that point I wasn't listening clearly.

It's been special: Thanks Zeke, Walsh, & Chauncey
Big Zip replied to zestycoyote's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
@skip zip I think the reference to playing around Zeke was to the tear drop shops that simply went over his outstretched hands. VCU clearly new they need to adjust their shots to get them off. My best to all three seniors! Zeke, Brian and Chauncey thank you for a a great ride! You'll be missed and I wish you the best. -
Butler and Xavier leaving A10...opportunity?
Big Zip replied to ditchrider1's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
GP1 I have to agree with you. If there is room in the A10 to move this team and the opportunity exists do it now. We've tried to lead with the football team forever and it hasn't worked. You finally have a coach in place that can continue to raise the level of play and a better conference would help him with recruiting. The reputation of the MAC took a serious hit last night and the ability to get national recognition no matter what our record next year is going to be next to impossible. The residual effects of this loss will ruminate in the heads of the media and basketball fans. Nobody cares that we weren't at full strength because I don't think they actually heard that as loud as they hear Akron 19 game winning streak. Now they all wonder who the hell we played during that streak. The texts and comments I've already gotten from my friends shows me that people simply don't believe this team was any good -- and they told me so. -
Can't do it in one. This wasn't like a real season -- this was like a split season given the circumstances. I'll go with: Impressive and Humbling
-
Do you guys realize we lost by the widest margin in the 75 year history of the tournament? There is no way I'm putting that solely on the missing talent from this game. The talent level between these two teams was not that great that a record loss should have been set. You can say what you want about me but I believe a Shaka coached Akron teams doesn't set that record. KD is and has been a great coach for us but last night was not a good night for anyone on the Akron side of the ball. If you are willing to give the coach a pass on that then you might want to leave the board. This was another great season and I enjoyed it! This is a sad way to end it. My hats go off to the seniors in this program Zeke, Brian and Chauncey -- thanks for some great memories guys and best of luck in whatever is next for you!
-
@Keener I don't think these guys were as outmatched tonight as they were outcoached. Sad to say but Shaka is a much better coach. How else do you explain losing by 1 in OT last year to a worse Zips team and then not scoring enough points in an entire game to beat their point total at the half.

Careful the Shaka lovers on this board are going to bash you. As far as I'm concerned Shaka can f&*k off! He's about as classy as OU fans.
