  1. If the team is going to play in the tournament the team needs to win the tournament plain and simple. If this tournament was on our schedule to kick-off next season we would all be pumped. Personally, I think it would be great of the CIT ignored the big name schools and put together a tournament to kick-off the season each year with a similar group of schools like this group. I know it isn't the NCAA or the NIT but this would be a great tournament for us to win. At the end of the day this team has to actually start winning some post season tournament games. The FSU win a few years ago was great but then we lost to UMass (I think) so it didn't feel as good. I'd be all for hoisting a CIT banner to the rafters at the beginning of next season.
  2. Looking at the teams in the tournament I love it. Great group of teams. Wish this was an in season tournament.
  3. UWGB is a huge test. The NCAA show couldn't stop talking about them on their show....how they should have been in the dance.
  4. CBI and CIT start on Wednesday so we've got to know pretty soon if we're playing right?
  5. Do the women get the first NCAA Tourney win before the men?
  6. The Hipsher days were grand compared to the Coleman Crawford days.
  7. At least this didn't happen while he was playing but it really brings into question the basketball program right? The previous conversation relative to Harney, the Abreu situation, Q sat out a year...we have consistently talked about other programs with issues and it seems we aren't any better.
  8. http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/six-warrants-issued-in-alleged-hazing-incident-involving-university-of-akron-fraternity-1.469649 Arrest warrant issued.
  9. The worst part about all of this is this may be a look at the future...what do we have to look forward to next year? Same players a year older? This ride has been fun...but it might be over.
  10. Joe Local doesn't give a rat's ass if local kids are on the team. Joe Local still looks at Akron as Akron U and an extension of HS. Joe Local may show up if you actually win games. If you won games with all kids from around the country nobody would have an issue. Wins put buts in seats not local kids. If local kids are good however and they help the team win they will make a difference.
  11. It isn't a question of if the school releases the information it is when does the information make it to the public. The school is not going to tell you anything but to think in the year 2014 with all of the social media available a player suspension will not be shared with the wrong person who shares it one person too far and posts it on twitter, FB etc. is actually naivete. If they can actually keep this under wraps that is pretty impressive. The amount of things that find their way to the twittersphere this days is incredible.
  12. So nobody has any idea what happened with Harney?
  13. How will it help make Akron more academically sound? I suspect the individuals in these programs are fairly intelligent even though they are few. This will allow Akron to scale back on classes and Professors that are not profitable. The ability to save the school money on this programs is the big deal here.
  14. I understand they are "technically" Div 1 schools. It just seems a little off putting them in the same list as if they are the same. Two levels of Div 1 just seems ridiculous to me.
  15. The O-Lineman from Willoughby apparently was committed to Can't according to the Plain Dealer. Nice to see us flip a kid away from Can't. Although the PD doesn't seem to understand St. Francis, Duquesne, Bucknell, Youngstown State and Davidson do not play Div. 1 football. I also found it interesting that in a list of "local recruits" going to Div. 1 programs it also listed "preferred walk ons". http://www.cleveland.com/hssports/blog/index.ssf/2014/02/high_school_football_recruitin.html#incart_2box
  16. So we have 14 recruits? 14? I'm hopeful we'll see more recruits. 14 seems like an awfully small class.
  17. Do coaches take borderline players from certain programs to help get a foothold with the program or the area? I'm not suggesting completely throwing away a scholarship but is this a strategy used by MAC coaches. Matrice if slow to hole (as suggested) may not be coming here to play RB. I can't be the only person who expected a 5'11" FB in HS to come to Akron and play NT. Cody Grice has been pretty impressive in his transition to the DL.
  18. Pretty amazing shot. Classless in victory once again. Almost like they teach a class at Can't in how not to be classy.
  19. Nothing like Hazel trying to screw us even after he leaves.
  20. Saw this morning Connor Krizanic is wavering on his commit to Cincy and OU was in attendance at his basketball game this week. Connor verbaled to Cincy as a WR but played QB his senior season after Mitch Trubiski graduated with a full scholarship to UNC. Krizanic preceeded to take Mentor to the State Championships where they put up 50+ points in a losing effort. I have to believe Krizanic is now wavering because OU came calling with a QB offer. He finished the year with over 3,600 passing and 1,600 rushing and is going to be a good fit in the MAC as a QB. Would love to see him in a Zips uniform but sounds like we are going to have the unfortunate experience of playing against him. On another note Ragland the QB for Moeller (the other team in the State Championship) had no offers prior to the game and verballed to Miami a few weeks later. He is more runner than passer but he sure looked good in the State Championship. With QBs like this entering the MAC it looks like we are going to need to stock up to stop the Jordan Lynch style offenses in the near future.
  21. What is Elton's handle on here? GT comes on here and doesn't hide behind a fake name. Any speculation on this board was after he wasn't at practice and didn't cause him to leave....sadly it is a nice article and that one line made me go really WTF?
  22. This may be as good a place as an any to ask a question about teams that make Bowl Games. (Sorry to derail the OSU train.) One thing that has bothered me for sometime and doesn't make any sense is what you hear from coaches who make bowl games "the best part about making a bowl game is you get extra practice time". If this statement is true they should the teams that didn't make a bowl game get to keep practicing too? Aren't those the teams that really need the practice? Aren't you helping the better teams get better while hindering the worse teams? What are the rules about practicing outside of the season?
  23. I'll take playing weak BCS teams every week over some of the crap we've had on our schedule if if it means we play the same team twice. We can't have a it both ways here....you can't complain when we play the garbage teams we've been playing and then complain because by a fluke we play the same bigger name school twice in a season. Hope the Zips come out of this 2-0.
