  1. Not that I am happy to see anyone leave but when one of the players who was supposed to be one of the main recruits from a class leaves because he sees too much competition ahead of hm, that's probably not a bad thing. QB looks to be shaping up as a postion of strength for the next few years. In the MAC that's excellent news.
  2. Not trying to pile on iCoach, but only #5 on this list of the top 25 worst coaching regimes in the FBS era?
  3. Not a bad preview but I found this funny. I know they switched coaches, now the logos?
  4. It can't be debated that the Zipmeister will not be baited, I too was awaiting his response with bated breath.
  5. Neither Ohio nor Buffalo has been seen yet. Could be the two of them.
  6. I don't like it for this particular case - puts more money in Can't State's coffers.
  7. She was the primary reason the Chipps and not the Zips went to the NCAA tournament. Very talented player, and she and just about her whole crew is back this year.
  8. I guess that depends on your version of interesting - I think we have two coming up that I would find interesting that have both agreed to a 1-1, Pitt and Iowa State, both BCS conference shools. I think you could do it with the bottom half of the BCS leagues and I'd also welcome just about anyone from any of the non-BCS leagues. Those are realistic schools to do a 1-1 (see above) and games Akron has a chance at winning. Besides none of them are scheduling Akron because of the sexy name.
  9. I don't like the 2-1's because that either means you have to find someone willing to come to your house with no return gate (and the only way the Zips can do that right now is an FCS school and playing more than one of those a year isn't viable) or you have to reduce to 5 home games a year at some point. I'd rather do the ATM, 1-1, 1-1 and FCS every year. Plus in either a 2-1 or 1-1 you have to make sure that if you get the home game in the final year, that the game is actually played, too many times the bigger names will just buy their way out. NIU would have been in the same place if they had lost an ATM game (Iowa wasn't it), and do you remember that OU was in the top 25 after beating Penn State (who turned out to ne much better than expected) before they tanked too? The ATM, 1-1, 1-1 (and those can be lower level BCS teams) I think works really well. No 2-1's any more.
  10. There is another familiar name on that roster - D.J. Cooper. Sometimes I think DJ and Zeke are going to be linked forever. Each got two MAC titles and battled each other for four years. Kind of fun to see them playing together after that all-star game.
  11. But what it probably does show is the impact that Jim Tressel can have on the campus and using his name and influence to attract people to campus. How can that be a bad thing? Do you think those kids care about what happened in the past? No, they see a coach from a former national champion who is interested in them. Anyone still think it was a bad hire by the University? Combine that with Terry Bowden being your head coach and I can see why kids get excited.
  12. Ah but in that same article: BTW, dimension also matters… average careers for players with… Height of 7 feet or more = 5.78 seasons So if you can get in, you can stay a while.
  13. Spurs - smartest organization in the NBA at finding and developing underrated talent.
  14. Dambrot and Christian coached against each other for four years from 04-05 to 07-08 when Christian was at Can't and then again last year when Christian was at OU. Year by Year (Dambrot's record against Christian assuming neither coach missed any of these games): 04-05 0-2 05-06 1-1 06-07 3-0 07-08 0-3 12-13 3-0 so the total is 7-6, so yeah pretty damn close and Dambrot was down by 2 until this year.
  15. He finished third. Damn impressive for a freshman.
  16. This might answer both sides of the question. Stay Out of School - Amid skyrocketing tuition costs and dismal job prospects, Aasif Mandvi imparts a healthy fear of higher education in a group of at risk young people.
  17. Huh, wondered what the hang time on that one was going to be? OSU President Gee to "retire". Hope they don't look to the north for their new president.
  18. And E. Gordon Gee-Whiz srikes again. Taking shots at Notre Dame, the SEC and Louisville. After all OSU has been through lately this complete embarassment of a president who continues to shove his foot in his mouth has to be at the very least uncomfortable for OSU. Would you rather have him or Proenza as your school president right now? And thank you Yahoo sports for using a picture that had Jim Tressel in the background.
  19. And you can add this one: A WCC athlete had to pay back $20 for washing her car with water not freely available to other students. Somebody put a bullet in this organization.
  20. As well as they did last year and having most of the team back, they are quite likely to be MAC East Champs again. Unfortunately, CMU who dominated the Zips in both games has their entire team core back, so I suspect they will be MAC favorites. Love what the women have done but I think it is an awfully tall order to knock CMU off their perch this coming year.
  21. Fortunately our favorite rivals also made that list for a similarly dubious achievement. 36. (Years since Can't State had consecutive winning seasons): The Golden Flashes went 11-3 last season and won the MAC East Division title. They'll try to have consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1976-77.
  22. The Men did their part in Track winning the MAC championship. The women finished 2nd but sadly behind only Can't State so the series is tied 7-7. Only a miracle by the Zips baseball team can pull it out this year. I hate losing anything to Can't. They need to reestablish a mens soccer team.
  23. For those that think Proenza is highly overpaid, here is CNN's list of the highest paid Public University Presidents. The Top Ten (Ball State? Really?) Graham B. Spanier* Pennsylvania State University $2,906,271 Jay Gogue Auburn University $2,542,865 E. Gordon Gee Ohio State University $1,899,420 Alan G. Merten George Mason University $1,869,369 Jo Ann M. Gora Ball State University $984,647 Mary Sue Coleman University of Michigan $918,783 Charles W. Steger Virginia Tech $857,749 Mark G. Yudof University of California $847,149 Bernard J. Machen University of Florida $834,562 Francisco G. Cigarroa University of Texas $815,833
  24. Also really unfortunate the Zips are not in it.
  25. Yeah, "The Bad Asses".
