  1. Short career as a sub. Most people here are too young to remember that Earl the Pearl beat us in the MidEast Regionals in 1967.
  2. He is not going to the Dance from the A10 with the players he is poaching from Akron, that is for sure.
  3. Just remember, nothing is impossible. You just have to want it bad enough: All-America - Division II (1960's) 1966-67 ALL-AMERICA TEAM FIRST TEAMSECOND TEAMTHIRD TEAM Walt Frazier, Southern Illinois John Dickson, Arkansas State Jerry Newsome, Indiana State Sam Smith, Kentucky Wesleyan Larry Newbold, Long Island John Rinka, Kenyon Earl Monroe, Winstom-Salem State Otto Moore, Pan American Don Garlos, Otterbein Bill Turner, Akron John Godfrey, Abilene Christian Al Skalicky, San Diego State Phil Jackson, North Dakota Bad formatting, first team: Bill Turner (Akron), Earl Monroe, Phil Jackson, Walt Frazier. Just in case people forgot.
  4. Unless you are actually the president of the University in disguise, you need to stop worrying about their money. Basketball and Football are the public face of the University, NOT the EJ Thomas Performing Arts whatever. Take a look at what out of State tuition costs. It is a question of where they spend the money, not a question of having money. The cost of a basketball head coach is a drop in the bucket.
  5. With your reputation on this board...LMAO
  6. The two of you need to leave. You are NOT fans.
  7. They will spend the money. A good hoops team attracts students, teachers and benefactors. Cheaping out would be a very poor business move. The issue here is not money, it is finding a quality coach who can at least keep us at the KD level.
  8. Appears that KD is poaching both the team and the recruiting class. Makes me lose all respect for him.
  9. Ivey is freaky athletic.
  10. Don't worry! There is someone here who knows that the next coach is going to fund it out of his new paycheck.
  11. I have no problem with the coaching staff going with him - they would mostly be unemployed when a new HC comes in anyway. But the players were recruited with UA money, NOT KD's money. It was always understood that their college degree would be from The University of Akron, NOT "KD University". Taking the team with him is just wrong.
  12. Another silly post. He was an EMPLOYEE. And a highly sought after coach. To suggest that he should pay for repairs out of pocket is offensive.
  13. That is already taken by the guy who expects the coach to pay for the renovation of the JAR out of his own pocket.
  14. That is absurd. Stupid post of the month.
  15. At this point it would not be a loss anyway.
  16. It's a problem. The new coach will have to compete for prospects with KD.
  17. We need to hire a stud. That being said, UA under KD had one of the best mid-major records in the Country. That has to be something of an attraction for a coach - going to a very successful program. Unlike the Bowden situation, this post offers an opportunity for resume building for the right person.
  18. You may be correct. I was thinking of Brian Walsh and the guy from UMBC
  19. Boaks can not bring anyone with him who can play next year - SBU is D1 Also, he earns way more than was stated here: Stony Brook’s new men’s basketball coach Jeff Boals received a five-year deal that will be worth more than $1.875 million if he stays the entire term, according to the university’s offer sheet. Newsday obtained the document on Thursday from Stony Brook through a Freedom of Information Law request. Boals, a longtime assistant coach at Ohio State, was hired last month to replace Steve Pikiell, who left Stony Brook after 11 years to become the coach at Rutgers. The offer sheet, which was signed by Boals on April 11, the same day as his introductory news conference, states that he will make $365,000 per year and will receive an annual “location stipend” of $3,026 and monthly “automobile stipend” of $500. Boals also will receive a “continued service” bonus of $50,000 if he fulfills the five-year term. Boals’ deal also includes an option to renew the contract for an additional three years as well as various financial incentives tied to the players’ athletic and academic performance, as is typical with college coach contracts. For example, Boals will receive $10,000 for an NCAA Tournament appearance, $2,000 if a player is named conference basketball scholar-athlete of the year and $1,000 if Stony Brook beats a nationally ranked team. Pikiell was making $372,550 per year when he left Stony Brook, according to the contract extension he signed last summer. His five-year deal with Rutgers, which he received after leading Stony Brook to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in March, guarantees him $8 million, according to the school’s memorandum of understanding, also obtained by Newsday.
  20. AND they won't be playing next year. AND they can drag down the program there. They can follow him, we can get open scholarships for some JUCO transfers. We have been very successful with them in the past.
  21. And again, TDM (5'8"0) and Hughes (never got any minutes to speak of and showed NOTHING) are NOT getting P5 scholarship offers. If they leave they only shoot themselves in the foot. Especially TDM, his only real chance to play in D1 is at a Mid-Major due to his size.
  22. Anyone who leaves has to give up their scholarship and sit out a year, unless they drop down. Don't be so quick to assume that starters are willing to do that. Most of our guys are not about to get P5 scholarship offers. Most certainly not Antino or Noah or Hughes.
  23. It is not time to panic yet. OK, NOW it is time to PANIC
  24. Cops make more than that on Long Island!
  25. So next year we are TOTALLY screwed! New coach, POY gone, no big time recruits on the horizon. This harkens back to 1967 when Turner and Williams graduated and we had a team so horrible that the strategy was score one basket and try to stall the entire game (no shot clock in those days). It was not until Wyatt Web came in and re-built the team around Len Paul that we were good again. 2017-18 is going to be PAINFUL.
