  1. Watch it Buck, my wife worked there! I think the weather guy you're talking about was "Jolly" Jack Ryan, who was also on the radio mid-days.And don't discount the weather magnets. Dick Goddard kept his years after Channel 8 went to the computer because it was always breaking down.A good back up.There was a day, I would say the 70's when WAKR radio and TV was a solid news operation. However, as the biz changed and the hi-tech, expensive technology came in, they just didn't have the bucks to keep up.They had some solid reporters over there:Fred Anthony, Dick Russ, Tom Shay, Bob Jeffries, Kenny Halterman, Rob Dumke, Carl Dickens, Mark, Bill McKay...very impressive staff. And those markers...Wally Kinnan used them on channel 3 too. However, he used them in the 60's and WAKR was still using them in the early 80's. Sorry 81. I am sure that wasn't your wife.In retropsect, I was only a kid. Maybe she was hot and I was too young to notice.
  2. That is excellent.
  3. Does anyone remember the old Akron 23 news?I used to laugh so hard at the weather guy. While all the clevelnd stations had these neat digital weather maps, he had a map with magic marker showing the temperatures. That show was so cheap. Then they changed it to 23 Newsday. It had some semi-ugly woman and Mark Williamson. it was a new set. I think the weather guy had little magnets to hold the temperatures on. It was the cheapest and worst news ever. However, it was Akron news and that is why I watched it.
  4. Nice pickup. Keep those DL coming.Good size for a 3-3-5 DE. He may grow into a DT
  5. Playing some MF(I was bummed when he died a while back), and CM would be great.I would love to hear the band play Children of Sanchez. The trumpets better be able to do the double and triple tounging. Please don't let Scott Johnston help with this. He will try to make them play these songs orchestral style. If they play any MF, there is no wimping out on the high parts either.(LOL)That is some good music. Some of that Latin music is great. I am sure it is more fun for the band too.
  6. Thank you. You said what I was trying to say. Only you said it much better. The only thing different is that I feel the entire MAC is this way. not just UA.
  7. We have to get that urine yellow off the spokes.Nice touch flushes!!! Actually, I thought it was urine ont eh actually wheel and brown on the spikes. However, I may be wrong... ????? Sorry, bad joke.
  8. We have to get that urine yellow off the spokes.Nice touch flushes!!! Actually, I thought it was urine ont eh actually wheel and brown on the spikes. However, I may be wrong...
  9. Not me...I would vote for the MAC rep and then write in Zippy. I don't know. I would agree if it was anyone other than Can't.
  10. I would do the same thing. I would vote against Can't.
  11. What am I missing? What is the problem?
  12. Looks like someone's a little confused as to who our rival is... THAT is why we're small time is because half of our fans are so blindly jealous of another school's success that they're willing to cheer for Can't. How many OSU fans do you think ever cheer for Michigan for any reason?Your skyscrapers are going to end up more like Rex Humbard's tower restaurant with an attitude like that. As for Doug Martin, If he really said that about Akron fans, he is a jackass. It reminds me of the Bengals coach talking to the Cincy fans about being classy. "This isn't Cleveland". Martin sounds like a poor loser. What a role model for those young players.
  13. I will only reply to this post since it is you Bobby.I 100% AGREE WITH YOU. That is my point. My point was about the MAC.........................................
  14. Bobby, I don't understand that post. It wasn't a case of good or bad intentions. It was a simple question. It was about the MAC conference. Not UA. I don't need to justify it. This entire thread justifies it. People are ecstatic over 22,000 fans that were divided between 2 close schools. Some people make it sound like I was being critical of the people that were there. No, I was being critical of all of those people that weren't there. From both Akron and Can't.Please take off the blue and gold shades and think of this objectively instead of as an Akron fan only.BTW, I apologized before you even put this post up. I knew some people took it the wrong way. If you reread the first post, you will see I changed it.Sometimes I forget where I am when I try to give personal opinions.Again, my apologies.
  15. Did you mean Butt Monkey or Buck Monkey? Either way, there are so many similarities in the genetic make-up of these two breeds of monkey, the difference can not be calculated easily.Sure is fun beating Can't. I hope you aren't talking about me GP1. Although I know you are.I have over 1000 posts on a board where most posters don't like me, yet I am a butt/buck monkey. Less than 5% of my posts are critical of anything UA. Yet, you seem to forget the other 95%. Well, whatever. You will see what you want to see.I guess we need to be 100% positive 100% of the time. I wish life worked like that. That last thread, if you knew how to read, said the MAC is the issue, not UA.However, in the typical let's bash the guy that isn't a 100% homer mentality, you took that as a bash against UA. Your post completely proves my point. People are saying we had the second highest attendance for the day. That is great. However, that attendance included crowds from 2 schools that are less than 1/2 hour apart that are rivals. Again, this isn't a bash Akron issue, it is a bash the MAC issue. My comment was the MAC. Not UA. You think that it is great that with 21,000 fans, that was the second highest. I am glad there were that many people there. I just thought there would be even more.Buffalo, with about 23,000 fans was the highest. You really think that says anything good about our conference?I am really done with this now. Some of you guys are so full of hate you can't understand what being objective is all about.Yesterday was a great win for the UA program. This is a young team that has a great future. However. my point is that UA will never truly become a top tier team until they leave the MAC. I really look forward to that day.
  16. That sucks. Mackey was the leader of the defense. He will be missed. I hope he has a fast recovery.
  17. Hopefully someone had a can of Lysol to get all those sick Can't germs off of the trophy.
  18. It looks like we have found our kicker. He is only a freshman too. This looks good for the future.
  19. Not in downtown Akron, I'd probably build them in Brazil, Argentina, and in India. But I've been working on a plan for the Mayflower and have connections to investors. Don't play dumb by asking, "What is a 'suckeye,'" You know I call them that. That's like asking, "What is C.A.N.'T. state."BuckZip,Trying to use todays attendance in a negative way is not going to put a damper on anyones mood tonight. I don't think there is anything wrong with MAC fans. The problem isn't the MAC fans, it's the non-MAC fans that root for a school in ColumbusYou came onto this board tonight with your "only 21,000" post. Most fans on here could care less if it was 21,000 or 40,000 because it was packed, very noisy, and a great win. Fair enough. You said the problem is the non MAC fans that root for a team in Columbus. That is the question I was asking. How do you think we can fix that?I personally feel you can root for 2 teams. Obviously most people disagree with that. What do you feel we can do to make these people that are following the school in Columbus follow UA?I am not trying to put a damper on anyones mood. I was simply amazed that we didn't have a sell out crowd today. Some people make it sound like I came on here and bashed the team after a good win. I never bashed the team. When I was a kid, we used to go to the Acme_Zip game and it was soldout every year. We actually had to buy tickets in advance. The school in Columbus was there then too.Where have all of theose people gone?
  20. Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, Once again you don't get it. Well, once you build those skyscrapers in downtown Akron and have your big accounting firm because you attended the Harvard of the Midwest, you will begin to understand.I wasn't there because I was in Atlanta for business. I am going by the figures that gozips.com posted. If they are incorrect and the palce was full then that is awesome. However, I am commenting on the numbers given.I am very glad that we won. I am not being negative really. I just don't get the total apethetic feeling around Akron. NE Ohio is a huge sports market. I really wish UA could receive their fair share of the market. My initial post was asking a question of what is wrong. As usual, it has turned into a bash fest. I guess I should be used to it by now.BTW, what is a "suckeye"?
  21. Thanks for stopping by. I am so glad you know me so well. I also love your ability to read, interpret and to be objective. My favorite part is where you told me what I said even though I didn't say any of what you said that I said.
  22. It's not a matter of crapping on it. No need to get defensive. I just don't get why we have such little support. A rival game on a beautiful day should be a sell out. That is my point.Especially when that rival probably accounts for close to half the fans there.
  23. 81, you can't tell anything from that picture. Come on now. You are so far away that if there was 1 person for every 2 seats, you couldn't tell from that distance. Look at the top left. Those seats are empty. If the place was full there wouldn't be an entire area empty like that. The point is that this game should have been sold out and it wasn't. That makes it even worse. The capacit is 31,00 and you can still see large holes from the other side of the field. If the bands take up a lot of space, that makes it even worse. The 22000 is probably pretty close in reality.
  24. Were you there??? It was packed... my beef is I Tivo the game on WEWS out of Cleveland and they bump us for OSU with 1:44 to go in the GAME??? WTF??? So now at our home stadium we are giving out false information. Is that what you are saying? If the RB holds 35,000, the place may look pretty full with 22000 there. To fit that 35,000 in, people have to be packed in. I am sure there were quite a few holes and even rows that weren't close to being full. It is very hard to judge how packed the place is when you are there. If you are on one side of the bowl looking across, it may look full when in reality it is 2/3 full only.I don't understand why the UofA would give out false information to make us look worse.
