  1. I'll check out Clevelander. But I'll be ready to "take my talents" to the Lizard if necessary!!
  2. Unintended, off topic discussion begins....NOW University of Akron big man Zeke Marshall towers above students waiting to cross High Street near the Polsky Building on campus on Tuesday, March, 5, 2012, in Akron, Ohio. (Phil Masturzo/Akron Beacon Journal) But seriously, if you dig this article, respond on the Ohio.com comment section and drop an email to ABJ. We've been missing out on these types of stories FOR YEARS. Props to George and the Beacon on this insightful work.
  3. Agree 100 percent the U dribbled the ball off their foot and right out of bounds. But I still remember how Cadillac Ranch washed their hands of us after the championship game last year. So it wasn't perfect. With dozens of options, I cannot believe that it's difficult to find a good venue for us.

  5. Coach talking up the importance of character. Thanks for the heads up!! p.s. Munch "Zeke has more blocks than 100 NCAA teams!"
  6. Yeah I'm with you CK. I already miss seeing all the MAC schools repping in Cleveland. There was a lot more people around creating a better atmosphere.
  7. Heck yeah Grand Haven- and the Michigan beaches are awesome! Welcome to the forum and thanks for the heads up. And K-ENT SUX
  8. This is fantastic. Looks like our fan presence will be watered down and spread out. Yes I'm blaming our own school for this. If it's any consolation, my friend bartends @ Flannerys and said the Can't fans are the worst tippers she gets all year.
  9. Ahhh don't be worried. I want to play the better team. If we're meant to get to NCAA's, we'll win!!
  10. I'm kangaroo-ting for another classic Zips vs. Flushes matchup at the Q. Plus, it's so great to see all of their sad fans after the games.
  11. For me I am undecided between the two locations. Though, my keen senses tell me that the article did not limit the selection to two sites. [edit - I see Yaz is in agreement here] I disagree on the point that the U wants the arena next to the stadium. If the idea is to share parking facilities I get that, but I think there's already enough parking in existence for football. Maybe a garage to supplement future peripheral development aka University Square? I could understand that. http://www.upakron.com/uploads/akron-core-...ive-summary.pdf I just think, in general, the benefits of consolidating sports facilities are very much overrated. I like the image akzipper presents of hanging out before and after games. But in every instance (Reds/Bengals, Tribe/Cavs, Lions/Tigers, etc.) I can't say that the two venues feed off of each other. But instead, the other venue is actually a "dead zone" that provides little to enhance the environment. The most important question IMHO is what location provides the best bang for creating or improving retail (or public space) and other spinoff development. I can see this happening on Main very easily. Then again, as Dave said, the Spicer/Exchange option fits this purpose as well and could jump start the entire development. Although I feel the proximity being "hemmed in" by Route 8 actually hurts this potential a bit. But the BW3 block could be improved. And there is room for development along Spicer and even on the Lot 9 corner.
  12. I should be there about the same time.
  13. You are thinking like an entrepreneur. Last year I actually had a hard time, I kept winning more tickets!!
  14. Oh man, even worse, I always cringe when I see rubes buying MAC Championship tickets from scalpers.
  15. I opt for this background...courtesy of Univision.
  16. Slowing down traffic on Exchange is going to help out immensely! Ha, I just noticed that something very "arena looking" is included in the Mayflower site on p. 10. Not sure I noticed that before, take it for whatever it's worth. To me it's really exciting to see things will keep changing for the better. I'm glad we're having this discussion about the arena. There's so much potential yet to be fulfilled. It's kind of fun imagining what can happen. Then when you consider who is involved in these plans, financing etc., it's easy to believe that this thing can be on a fast track, even with this bad economy.
  17. http://www.upakron.com/uploads/akron-core-...ive-summary.pdf Sorry Dave. I meant literally south of exchange, not the "South of Exchange District." So I'm actually referring to the University Square District for arena location guess/possibility. Sorry for the confusion!!
  18. Here ya go Dave. Check p. 7 this is a pretty miraculous plan: http://www.upakron.com/uploads/akron-core-...ive-summary.pdf
  19. It depends. Again, the Temple move shows that market size and potential are perhaps more important factors than football success.
  20. Agree it's a good policy to use parking structures that are already there. Surface lots however good for tailgating are just bad for a city. I am not a fan of building on the baseball field or near the JAR. Here's why. I think the campus has already lost too much accessible green space at "Lee Jackson" with all of the athletic uses taking over. Also, the area between the JAR and Exchange Deck would be perfect for some additional beautification/green space areas. A reflection pond is something that would be a really nice addition I think. As more and more development takes place around the U- and according to plans there will be a lot of it- it's going to be extremely important for central campus to become more of an oasis, shielded away from cars and traffic and distractions as much as possible. The arena will require a fairly large footprint, and we only have so much space left. It's a better idea to locate the facility somewhere that can generate the most spinoff development. Unless UA wants to create an on campus entertainment district it makes little sense to locate directly in the middle of campus. I've said this many times, but the Arena District in Columbus is a fine template for success. Adjacent to the Mayflower (future dorms?) has been shown on some plans. We've all seen that. Makes sense. Market Street is an intriguing option worth considering; that could be another win-win for the school/city. Exchange/Rt. 8 near the Info is an entertainment dead zone, I think that's a bad location unless of course there's some major overhaul of the Zip Strip, but even still I think that would be too far from the facility. My wildcard prediction? The arena could be situated amidst the upcoming retail/residential mecca in the area between Exchange and Wheeler.
  21. OU alumns? Could they be luring us into a trap??? As an aside, my friend bartends at Flannery's. Free drinks be damned, I will boycot them as long as they fly that embarassing K ent State sign.
  22. Cadillac Ranch gets a C grade from me. I was not enthused that when we got back from the championship game, the staff seemed to forget all about us. NO MORE SPECIALS!! The Clevelander can be a much better fit if you ask me. It's much more "mom and pop" like. We won't have to battle for attention like at the Ranch. We can actually take over the Clevelander! And the location is still pretty super.
  23. More nice work by Mr. Thomas!!
  24. Just caught the highlights on Channel 19. Nice threeee from Walsh! For the record, they followed the Cavs, but preceded the Tribe spring training. Not too shabby!!
  25. can someone please post a link to the feed? It's free, right?
