Will we win another game? What do you experts think???

Very classy Zipsrifle....except...the Olive Garden??Did you have an expiring coupon, or is that really the best place to go out for dinner where you live?

This is official...........WE ARE CURSED.Anyone care to debate me on this? You cannot deny the reality. We need to find out what horrible sins our school has committed, we need to excorcise these demons. My first thought is that the school is built on an old cemetary. Can someone connected to the supernatural please verify that this is the reason our school is doomed?

Who was that MAC center psc? When I first got to the A-K in 1990 the Zips had a big center named Pete Freeman (I think that was it). These were pre-MAC days of course. But I'm fairly sure he led the nation in FG percentage. That's all I'm asking of Zeke....just lead the nation in FG percentage, okay? In the past, one good, big center has been able to own MAC competition. That's what I'm expecting for UA this season. Lots of blocks, rebounds and of course easy buckets.

Great point, would LOVE to see the University and its students just completely take over downtown. I'm not sure I am for closing the street to traffic completely....but it is critical that downtown become a vibrant, walkable place with a good mix of retail and residential space. And right now downtown is little more than a series of one way highways channeled to get traffic in and out as quickly as possible. Make all of those streets 2 way and slow "traffic" the F down!!!! I would be highly against this. The streets the U closed for the Landscape for learning really limited access to downtown, and the city really didn't take well to that. Closing another very high traffic street for "university space" would create a lot of furor that the University doesn't want to deal with.I'm for this, if it gets transformed into a walkway like Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls, with shops lining both sides of the street. But only if the city did it on its own. UA shouldn't be involved in that kind of civil planning stuff unless it directly affects the university.

Great thread.....it has me excited for basketball. Can't wait to see how our big center affects play in a "small center" league like the MAC. I loved the team's chemistry at the end of the year, this could get really interesting.

Oh yeah Dr, I think it's fun to go back and read who knew what the first Zips play on offense would be....A stupid end around to Jeremy "Isaac" Bruce. Then again, anyone who has watched Zips football for the past two years would know that play was coming!

On the bright side, I thought the team played hard tonight. But heck, this game was very very far from enjoyable. I feel bad.

I have so many complaints but this is the first thread I saw so....When JD decided on that long 43 yard field goal I was wondering what he was thinking. Everyone in General Admission knew we couldn't make anything longer than an extra point. I thought it might be a fake FG....I hoped it would be a fake FG.Wow, it was a real surprise that we missed that one**denotes sarcasm, and sadness

I still like our chances. The Boobcats had a big win vs. BG, and they won't be able to maintain consistency. Not here in Akron. Not in our house. Ohio 24Akron 27

Mac computers +1MAC Conference....not so good lol. These are fantastic pics!!!!!

Getsy didn't disappear his senior year, but the offense sure did!I will never forget that loss to Can't...really ugly and on television too. I don't know about that. Off the top of my head, I can think of Frye, Hixon, Biggs, Arthur, Blackburn, Getsy, etc. There are many that dont disappear as seniors.

re: Mentor, those stats are not descriptive. The nice housing along the Lake distort the numbers. Go a few blocks away from the Lake and it's as average as average can be.

Random thoughts, observations & questions...
scottditzen replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Football
THE FOLLOWING CONVERSATION HAS JUST OCCURRED:Employee to my left: I went to undergrad at Can't State.Me: Boooo.Employee to my left: (feelings hurt) Wow, I've never heard anyone ever boo Can't before...Me: You've obviously never been to a Can't-Akron football game, or Basketball, or anything.Employee to my left: I didn't even know Can't had football? (whole room laughs).Employee to my left: Nah, seriously, I lived in the dorms with guys on the football team. They used to take LSD before the games. So remember, just when you think we've got it bad, just realize that our arch rival is a complete joke, even amongst their own alumni. -
The "I hate the spread offense" thread
scottditzen replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Football
Anyone remember when Charlie Frye was upset about the firing of Lee Owens he considered declaring for the NFL draft as a junior? It was Larry Fitzgerald who called Frye, telling him that he should stay, and that Charlie would quote "love J.D. Brookhardt's offense."From the day he became coach I expected the offense to look good, but for some reason all we get is inconsistency. And I'm not a reflexive "Blame the coach" hater at all....I just want to know why our offfense can't seem to string 2 good years in a row. Remember Getsy's awful 2006???? But I don't mean to go too far off topic, this thread is about hating Akron's spread offense. -
The "I hate the spread offense" thread

Anything would be better than this "punt" oriented offense we have now. What I hate most about the spread is how often the RB is expected to gain yardage from a dead stop. -
Rumors of ticketing WILL HURT US.Listen, I was in Lot 9 for five hours yesterday drinking beer out of cans and red dixie cups...no trouble at all.Yesterday I and several others walked past numerous cops with cups of beer by BW3's ON EXCHANGE ST. Again, no trouble at all.Last week an elderly guy had a beer in a glass bottle and the cops came by on an atv. The cops stopped and kinda stared at him. I motioned for the oblivious old guy to "hide" his beer and he got the drift, lowered the bottle to his side. The cops smiled, said "thanks" and drove off.So receiving or even seeing ticketing has not been my experience. I sincerely hope the tickets are isolated incidents...we do not need any publicity worse than the Indiana score to hurt our attendance.

I have hated our offense since the epic CJ vs. CJ quarterback battle that began in our shiny new fieldhouse. It's ugly and ineffective. Overutilized. Obviously not suited to our personel on the field. What I wouldn't give to, just once in a while, see TWO running backs in the backfield and a traditional, vanilla handoff.Pass to a tight end anyone?I am getting nostalgic for Marcel Weems and the Pass and Pitch offense at this point. At least that scheme had some imagination to it.AND IF I SEE ANOTHER HAND OFF TO JEREMY BRUCE I WILL GET VIOLENT. All right, I feel better already. Thanks Zipsnation for allowing me to rant...a few years ago I would've left this message on some poor athletic dept. guys voicemail. Carry on.

Ha ha, I like our chances with Frye starting!! My fingers are crossed. Charlie! Charlie!

Wow, I'm kinda surprised about Nicely's speed. In my casual reading all I've heard was "pocket passer" so my first thoughts were of qb's like Bernie Kozar, Dan Fouts and, for those of you under 70, Luke Getsy. Sounds like Nicely is a qb who may be able to run when he needs to.
