  1. I think a 1-2 punch of Allen and Torrence could be nice for us, provided Allen comes back from his injury in similar form and Torrence develops into the player his natural ability dictates that he should.
  2. Grant was a solid MAC player, but I would say his chances of being drafted are slim to none, with the good money going towards none. Good luck to him in whatever he ends of doing now that his college days are done.
  3. Getsy has been long gone since Christmas. He's the offensive coordinator at D2 West Virginia Wesleyan.http://www.wvwc.edu/athletics/sports/football/coach.asp
  4. Is this inside information, because I haven't been able to find anything yet on the net that confirms this?Hula dancers (and Hula Zips) see all, know all. I heard something about Moorehead and UConn back at the beginning of January when I heard about Bill Bleil's imminent departure, but I didn't want to post it because he didn't have the job yet and making a statement like that could have a negative effect on recruiting, if a recruit hears his recruiting coach is on his way out the door while he's still on staff trying to convince a kid to come to Akron. Is it official now HulaZip?
  5. Thanks for that glowing review of yourself Jose. You were here for four years and hardly saw the field. You won't be missed that bad, but good luck at Hofstra, all the best.
  6. Hopefully the entire defensive coaching staff.
  7. If Obama accomplishes this, despite whatever else he might do, and putting all my political beliefs aside, I will vote for his reelection in 2012! (and also as long as he keeps sticking it to the queers (no pun intended))
  8. No, I don't think you guys are understanding the pricing when you say the prices aren't too bad. The 599.00 a month for the 4 bedroom apartment is PER PERSON, because these types of places give out individual leases per bedroom. That's why the smaller the apartment is in terms of bedroom and how many roommates you'll have, the higher the price goes. 650 for 3 bedroom, 699 for two bedroom, etc. If you guys think that's reasonable, you must be richer college students than I was!Yeah, I realized that about a few hours after I posted that. Because of the twelve month lease, it ends up being more expensive than living on campus! I'd be surprised to see this place get many leases. If the accommodations are nicer, then it could carve out a nitch. However, I think you might be right. Why would you spend more money only to be farther away from your classes? If you want to be that far away from campus, you can always rent rooms off campus and spend a LOT lessThe one thing that might make the price somewhat worth it is the fact that these apartments will also come fully furnished with incredibly nice furniture and huge flat screen HD tvs in ever bedroom and the living area. Every bedroom has its own full bathroom as well, and the apartment prices include cable tv with HBO and high speed internet. I guess if you have the money, its not that bad of a deal everything considered. I certainly never had the moeny to live like that in college though. I was living scholarship check to scholarship check, with not a dime to spare in one Chaney Rentals broken down shacks!!
  9. Not to mention a D2 Ashland squad who finished the year ranked 14th in D2 if the poll I'm looking at is correct. Who are they coached by again?? Did they raise a banner for being #14?Did we raise a banner for being #106?C'mon Cap, I just said that to pick at you and GP1 anyways ;)It's fun sometimes to go back and look at some of the "historic" threads on this board. Here's one of my personal favorites:http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?showtopic=1436It seems in the spring of '05, you didn't think we could win a MAC title with Lee Owens "horrid" last two recruiting classes as upperclassman. Our dueling analysis of the players is also quite humerous. How did those guys, Jabari Arthur, John Mackey, and Reggie Corner, turn out anyways??Love ya Cap

  12. The answer to this problem is real simple. When coaches clamor for contract extensions and security they schools should say fine, we'll give you the extension, but not only is it us making a commitment to you, but its you making a commitment to us as well. There will be a clause in your contract that if you interview for another job, you better hope you get it, because youre fired if you don't with no severance package.
  13. Yes. Most of you "difference makers"are looking for grayshirt opportunities.Excuse my ignorance, but does a greyshirt practice/play in spring drills?Yes. A grey shirt comes in during the spring had has full eligibility for spring practice. It's a huge advantage if you ask me for any incoming guy and saves a year of eligibility.
  14. Good, disciplined players play within the scheme the coaches give them. They are restricted to doing their job, and trusting that everyone else will be in the right spot, ESPECIALLY in the 33 stack. If a scheme sucks, and players aren't given the opportunities to make plays, it doesn't matter how good the player is, unless he just decides to say screw the scheme and try to make plays on his own, which can lead to whole 'nother set of issues. The 33 stack defense has it's advantages at times, but overall, it isn't effective as a base scheme, which we've witnessed over the last few years. We need to go to either a 3-4 or a 4-3 and get another big body on the field so teams aren't just pulling guards and running power up and down the field on us the entire game. Personally, I'm a fan of the 3-4 because it gives you more options in blitz packages and coverage schemes, allows more disguise, and allows you more of an ability to confuse offensive lineman and quarterbacks.
  15. I honestly cannot believe the defensive staff is being left intact. Unlike my good friend Barack Obama (sarcasm), Mr. Brookhart apparently doesn't believe in "change", and as a result, we as Zip fans have no "hope".
  16. Was on the phone this afternoon and found out Zips tight ends and tackles coach Bill Bleil has been offered and will accept a similar position at Iowa State. While I'm depressed as a Zips fan to hear the news, being that he's one of the few coaches on staff that I feel has done an outstanding job the last few years, and he's an even better human being, it's a good opportunity for him to get back into a BCS conference and nobody deserves it more. All the best Coach, thanks for your hard work here.
  17. OOOOhh, if you're looking for something you can count on in life, it will be that! :DI'll be letting you AND Mack know about it.But hell, for the sake of the program, I hope youre right. I just haven't seen anything, even in the MAC Championship year, since JD's been here that would make me think he's anything but a sub-par coach trying to bs his way around while learning on the fly.
  18. Umm... yes because it would mean that he recruited a capable player that was actually eligible. Some of these defenses of JD are getting ridiculous.
  19. Glenn Mason... go get him Mack.He was average at Can't and terrible at Minnesota. Why him?He took the joke of the Big 10 and went to 5 bowl games in his last 5 years. Look at what Minnesota has done since then and tell me they don't regret firing him. if that's "terrible", what word is appropriate for our head coach? He also brings instant credibility, knowledge on how to run a Division 1 football program, connections in the area, and a name which will attract recruits. Thats pretty hard to come by for a first year MAC head coach. He's the man for the job in my opinion. Wonder how much he's getting paid by the Big 10 network?
  20. Weren't three of those wins in the last three years of LO against I-AA teams (Howard, Cal Poly and Liberty)? I'm sure that if that was the case and we filled those I-AA spots with I-A teams, the record would look more like 25-34. I fail to see how that is better than 27-32. Don't forget the wins against BCS teams and the MAC Championship either.I'm not being overly defensive of JD because if he got fired tomorrow I would not lose a minute of sleep over it, but this team is better now than it was under the LO era. After 9 years at Akron, LO could only muster 5 wins against I-A teams his last year.Lee inherited a disaster of a program and had the worst facilities and administrative support in the nation to deal with. JD inherited a team with 4 future NFL players, coming off a winning record, one of the top graduation rates in the NCAA, and one of the top brand new practice facilities in the nation. STARTING OFF with that, he can barely muster 5 wins in his fifth season, in what has become the worst division in college football (the 2003 MAC had 3 ranked teams throughout the year and was knocking off ranked teams left and right). The comparison doesn't look too hot for your man JD.
  21. Glenn Mason... go get him Mack.
  22. It's already been reported that Montgomery has been fired.
  23. Pretty simple here folks. Regardless of what you think WILL happen, what do you think SHOULD happen? Based on JD's performance as our head football coach these past five seasons, do you think its time for a change, and do you want to see him go, or do you want to see him return next season? Let's get a straight up poll of the Zips nation.
  24. At least we have a basketball program thats in the right hands. Hopefully beginning tomorrow morning will be in the process of finding the right hands for our football program...
