  1. i will try to make sure i remember not to use that anymore, just for you haha. but thanks for pointing that out. Did you go to the game, what did you see that you liked and didnt like? Unfortunately, for the first time in about 15 years, I was not at the Spring game in any capacity. It really sucked, but I'm glad to have all of your accounts on what went down.
  2. timmyboy, not to be nit-picky, but you use this phrase in almost all your posts. "I seen" is not correct English. "I saw" is what you want to go with.
  3. Mine's Pint's. Seems to be frequented by a lot of Zips fans and sport alums. Almost everytime I go in there I see people I know from back in the day.
  4. We've got to keep in mind that coaches keep spring games very vanilla due to the fact that they are so public and there will only be base calls played. Because of this fact, nobody wins or loses a job in a spring game, its more just a show for the fans. We all need to keep that in mind if one quarterback goes out there and just tears it up tomorrow and the another one goes 0-14. It seems like every year after the spring game we get people thinking there should be all kinds of shakeups in the lineup when in reality evaluations are not being made based off one "scrimmage".
  5. Kinda funny that the dufus showed up at a sheriff's house. But also kind of fortunate.... no telling what might've happened had he had the right house.
  6. The forecast is 36 degrees for Sunday.... can't see the street carnival being much of a hit.
  7. I understand your point, but disagree. We have 3 QB's in the spring who have a combined 5(?) D1A snaps under their belt. I think Jackson has all 5. These guys need to prove, amongst many other things, that they can take a lick. Or, deliver one. Red "Don't hit me" shirts are for the upper-classmen QB's. That's not our situation. I would agree with you if it were just in scrimmages, but certainly not for all the practices. You've followed enough football to know how beat up QB's get during the course of a season, the injuries that can occur, and that's just having open season one time a week or less. If JD were to open up the QB's every single day of practice we wouldn't have one left after two weeks. If he has done this it serves him right that he only had one QB on Thursday. Pretty soon Jabari Arthur is gonna be taking snaps.
  8. I haven't been out to practice yet this spring, but if the QB's aren't wearing red jerseys for practice than that's just stupid. That's unheard of in college football to allow open shots on the QB's, so I doubt that's true. And all 200 lbs of Sean Hakes is not going to run over a 245 lb LB. That's not his game and never will be.
  9. That's low. If I were a potential recruit, no way in hell would I wanna go play for a man who pulls some underhanded crap like that. Wonder how his meeting with his K State players went to break the news.... if he even had a meeting before bolting. I used to be a Huggins fan but not after something like this.
  10. What you've got to realize and what Rasor should've realized is that Hakes "trucking" Alphonse was most likely due to the fact that Hakes had a red jersey on and Alphonse slowed up to tag off so as not to get his ass chewed by coaches, when Hakes then decided to be a hero and lower his shoulder on him. Sorry, Hakes may turn into a good QB, but his game is not going to be trucking anybody like Tim Tebow.
  11. I don't know Cap, I heard Baker was pretty bad, but maybe that's just in light of what many expected him to do, which was come in and fill in at the MIKE.As for the new roster, apparently Ty Washington has dropped fifteen lbs, put on #49, and gained four more years of eligibility from the NCAA . Way to go Ty!!
  12. dont forget that we still have 3 scholarships to give, and captain has already said the one is a BIG canadian for the DL. hopefully we find out very soon who the last 3 remaining are. and also C. stewart from hargrove military will be with the team come summer. I have personally never seen him play but i have heard he is a good one, and he came from the same school as almondo sewell, so we shall see. No freshman I've seen that we've signed or will potentially sign is the type that can come in year one and have an impact. Some people don't realize the gap in strength and speed from the hs/juco level to 1-A, and how long it takes most players to adjust themselves to that. If we're having to play true freshman up front on defense that's about the same as playing walk-on players who have at least been here for a while. To me this is a result of poor, poor defensive line recruiting the past few years, giving scholarships to guys who had little chance of ever seeing the field due to academics and bad character as opposed to bringing guys that might not be three stars but would be dependable and be ready to take the field in their second or third year. We've had no less than six defensive lineman sign and never appear on the roster in the last three years. That's devastating.
  13. He's a JUCO, so you never can tell. Mickey Baker, JUCO All-American, and one of the worst signees in the history of Akron comes to mind as a recent example. Hopefully Estrada doesn't follow the mold and truely is someone who can help us up front. And also, are we that thin up front on D that we have three walk-ons on the second team?? Nothing against, walk-ons, there have been many in Zips history that turned out to be great, but thats a bad sign.
  14. None of the above. If Kennedy isn't the starter, then it will be Aeris Reed. It may be later into the season however, as he is obviously not going to be the starter heading into fall camp.
  15. Please leave this board and go join Bucknuts. There you can be joined by countless others who would pay good money to suck Greg Oden's d***.
  16. I'm interested to hear how the night went, as I've been out of town for a while on extended business and couldn't make it tonight.
  17. sgm, why in the world would you be a fan of a school that is in the same state as the school you attend and is on the schedule of almost all of our sports?? I can understand people like BuckZip's feelings, as he attended both, but you have never attended Ohio St and never will. Were you a big fan of another high school back in the day when you were in high school (however long ago that was)? It makes no sense, it's pathetic, and it represents everything that is wrong with your average Akron sports fan. SMALL-MINDEDNESS and some sort of awe worship of a school they've never even attended and have no ties to.
  18. Apparently sgm wishes he had gone to Ohio St.
  19. Keep in mind that Hakes played Texas CATHOLIC SCHOOL football.... and keep in mind that we're not talking about Catholic schools in Ohio.... Catholic schools are no where close to being the powerhouses down in Texas. There's a reason he came to Akron with those two "state titles".I'm just going off what current players have told me and what I've seen at scrimmages and the times I've made it out to practice. Hakes has a lot of work to do if he's going to be the guy. But then again.... so do the other two. It's a wide open race, as JD has already stated.
  20. Well if you guys want to think that way, that's cool. Smart scheduling = fear I guess. Again - why would OSU come here? It doesn't work that way folks. Akron's got to win something before that happens, to make it worth it for big time programs to come in. But hey, if you guys want to think that the #1 ranked, Final Four-bound Ohio State team that scheduled non-conference road games against UNC and Florida this year is afraid of the Akron Zips...hey, that's your right. And the team that should've lost to Xavier, who was on par with the Zips this year. OSU was forced to play Xavier on a neutral court, and you saw the results. Yes, OSU is AFRAID to play any decent Ohio team away from home, and for good reason. A loss could begin to chip away at their sports monopoly on the state, God-forbid, and would severely hinder the ignorantly overconfident invinibility mindset of most Suckeye fan morons.
  21. I hadn't heard that, I hope thats not the case, he needs the spring. I've been on some extended business and have been out of the Akron area for quite some time here. I'll see what I can find out but others around campus or with some connections like CK could probably find out faster.
  22. Didn't Hakes graduate HS a semester early to get a jump on preparing for our QB job? To me, that grades him high on intelligence and leadership.I saw Jacquemain goofing around on the sidelines at the Toledo game. He has some work to do to erase that image from my mind. I couldn't see grading him "good" on leadership at this time.I look forward to seeing all three this spring. I only know bits and bites at this time. CK, I was meaning more on the field intelligence, such as understanding reads, the concepts of an offense, etc, not necessarily intelligence in the classroom. I know Hakes is a very good student, but from what I've heard and seen, struggles with making his reads and understanding who should be open and where. That's a very important and often overlooked aspect in evaluating a quarterback..... it doesn't matter if you can throw the ball 100 yards on a rope if you don't know where to go with it.As for Jacquemain, thats disappointing that you saw him goofing around on the sidelines during that important of a game, but I think everyone's been guilty of that at one time or another as an underclassman who knows he's not getting in the game. From what I've heard he's a true competitor who takes charge in the huddle and at the line.... something we're going to need with so many young guys up front next season.I'll be interested to see the outcome of this battle as well.... we will see who emerges. I'd put the good money on Jackson but I will not be as shocked as some if Jacquemain emerges.
  23. I actually would not be surprised to see Jacquemain emerge out of all of this. He's the only one of the three that is solid in all areas. Not spectacular at anything, but solid, a lot like Getsy.Jackson- Arm strength- Excellent Mobility- Excellent Intelligence- Average Work Ethic- Bad Leadership- HorribleHakes- Arm strength- Good Mobility- Average Intelligence- Below Average Work Ethic- Good Leadership- AverageJacquemain- Arm Strength- Average Mobility- Good Intelligence- Good Worth Ethic- Good Leadership- GoodDon't know much about Hakes leadership qualities, so that was just a guess, but which combination would you take? Like I said before, if Jackson can get his act together on the two things that he does have control over and can change, he's the guy. If not, he won't last long.
  24. Ummmm.... have you taken a look at our defensive backfield lately?? We're more loaded there than we are at reciever. If he wants to start he should put on 120 lbs and play guard.
  25. Don't want to slander a kid on here, but from what I've heard, he's going to need to step up his leadership, character, and work ethic and gain some respect from his teammates or he's not going to last long as the starting QB for the Zips. Guys like that with a ton of talent usually come into programs with all kinds of hype (like he has), get the fans all excited (like many are), and then bust and are replaced mid way through the season with a less talented but more reliable guy. I hope this is not the case for Carlton and the Zips, and I hope he learns to get in his playbook, get in the film room, lead by example, and stay away from bad influences. The QB has got to be a guy that players can look to for leadership, and we've been extremely fortunate to have that with our last 3 QB's.Of course, let's not take away anything from the other two guys who will be vying for the job in the spring. Carlton Jackson has in no way won the job yet anyhow.
