  1. It's kind of hard to know what the hell is going on when we can't even get a depth chart. Here's my best guess: Devoe, because of his status as a high school player and recruit, has been incredibly over-hyped by the people on this board and he has not measured up in the coaching staff's opinion in practice, and they don't feel he's good enough to be playing in front of the guys that are. I hope there's another explanation, but looking at last year, this spring, and a complete lack of his name being mentioned in camp, that'd be my best guess.
  2. I'm going to withold judgement until we get into MAC play but one thought kept going through my head throughout the afternoon.... even with all the facilities advances, Akron football is playing on the same level it was 6 years ago, hmmm....
  3. One word comes to mind after watching that video...Typical.
  4. I've found that if you are in Internet Explorer and go to Tools>Internet Options and then delete your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies, after each vote, you can vote as many times as you want. I'm sure there's an equivalent option in other browsers. I've voted about 20 times for Akron alone (very bored at work). We're already way above the rest of the MAC, now let's show ESPN the power of Zipsnation.
  5. So they're going to walk across the street, into the stadium, and down the stairs to the field?? Why in the world would we build a multi-million dollar stadium and still have our players doing something second rate like that. I say spend the few extra bucks and freakin connect the locker room to the stadium.
  6. Was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not the team will have a new locker room at the Info seperate from their locker room in the Field House, or whether they will also use the Field House locker room on game day? Architectually, will there be some sort of tunnel connecting the the Field House locker room via the back glass doors to the Field Level at Info if they do intend to use this as a game day locker room?
  7. GP1 GP1 GP1 I was talking about one we have not smelled in a while.Nice post.Point us to what you mean... I'm not sure I follow (though I think I have an idea)
  8. What the hell are you talking about??STEELERS 2008 OFFENSIVE RANKINGS-Total YPG: 22ndTotal PPG: 20thSTEELERS 2008 DEFENSIVE RANKINGS-Total YPG: 1stTotal PPG: 1stIf that's what you call winning a championship with offense, you need to have your head examined. I know education wasn't exactly a priority in the abysmal Faust era, but come on...Also, the Steelers offensive coordinator, Bruce Arians, was not "brought in" by Tomlin. He was a holdover from the Cowher staff, where he served as WR coach. In fact, aside from Grimm's replacement and the new WR coach to step in for Arians, pretty much the entire Steelers coaching staff is a holdover from Cowher. The entire defensive staff remained exactly the same. Tomlin basically won a Super Bowl playing with Cowher's players and letting Cowher's coaches coach.I'm not sure what any of that has to do with our AD search, but since you made a comment that made absolutely no sense, I just couldn't help but pointing it out Anyways, I'm a Mike Waddell guy myself I think they should hire him tomorrow.
  9. http://media.www.hofstrachronicle.com/medi...m-3519175.shtmlHakes was ineligible when the TE and WR were being used.
  10. I think I said it earlier when that website of Grant pimping himself was posted on here, the kid was a solid MAC linebacker, and a decent player for us, but nowhere near NFL caliber in terms of talent. He should've been getting ahead in the real world these past few months instead of wasting his money on websites and at some sham "training facility" in Miami that preys on kids like him. Best of luck to him in life after football.
  11. I think some kid, or kids would have gotten killed if we played that game. It is one thing to schedule a 1-AA game. But these guys don't even meet the minimum requirements of 1-AA. They're essentially Division II. Ya know, I used to think that way (about 1-A mid-majors playing at a much higher level than D2 and 1-AA) until I started going to catch Ashland-Wayne St every year to catch up with many of my old coaches. Honestly, after watching an Ashland team last year that had a better QB and 3 WR's than anything we've had since Frye-Cherry-Sparks-Irvin, I'm not so sure the gap is that wide anymore. IMO, the difference between the upper level of D2 (which USD used to be a part of) and the MAC isn't all that significant. We would've won the game but no one would've "gotten killed".
  12. There's a poll on NFL.com right now asking which Giant will be the team's leading receiver next year, and Hix is on of the options.... GO VOTEwww.nfl.com
  13. Coming from a former player, you start wishing you were at spring drills once you're out of football and miss the game... and it looks as if Mr. Davis may be out of the game a year sooner than he had to be.
  14. I've always thought that was a stupid schedule. Basically, the players never have a chance to go through a long heavy lifting cycle in the Spring semester because JD chooses to start winter conditioning and spring practice so early. They pretty much lift for a 4 weeks when they get back from winter break, then have winter conditioning for two solid weeks where not much heavy lifting is happening, go through 2 weeks of spring ball, go on spring break drink their asses off and lose any conditioning they may have had, come back for the last two weeks of spring practice, and then have about 4 more weeks of lifting to gain back the little bit they gained and then lost in spring ball. In my humble opinion, it'd be much better to lift for 10 weeks, in which guys will make SIGNIFICANT gains, maybe conditioning a couple days a week during the week to gradually get the guys into shape (instead of two "hell weeks"), and then get the 4 weeks of Spring practice the last 4 weeks of the semester before finals.
  15. Hard to believe, as well as he played in his final two games? He looks to be "The Next Omar Jacobs."Bet he's wishing he was back in Muncie with his teammates going through Spring Drills right about now... sad....
  16. For Hix sake I certainly hope not.
  17. Not good at all. This is a serious injury that has ended a lot of careers. It takes forever to rehab, and the victim rarely if ever comes back the same. I think it's safe to say Dale can kiss the '09 season goodbye.
  18. And we have a three way battle between a guy who can't muster a winning record in one of the worst conferences in NCAA Football and two guys who have never taken a DI snap.Pardon me if I think a guy, as a true freshman in the Big Ten, that is 6'6'' and has a good and live arm could work with our team. I mean, all we can get are 2-star QBs, why take a guy who was highly touted? You're right, that makes no sense....He is only good for DIAA, lol... :lol:First of all, if he came here he would have to sit for a year as a transfer. Second of all Partick Nicely, Jordan Miller, and Matt Rodgers were all rated as three-star QBs and nationally ranked. This guy led Michigan to their worst season in school history and doesn't think he can make the starting job next year on a 3-9 team.Obviously he would have to sit out...scout has Nicely and Rodgers at 2 stars..Michigan was a very young team, under a new coach and an entirely new system. He didn't exactly fit the system RichRod runs up there, is there something wrong with that? We had a very successful transfer from Pitt, who wasn't a world beater at that time and he couldn't sniff the field. That turned out pretty well for us.You act like this kid used to bully you when you were a kid....what gives? Jacq hasn't exactly set the world on fire and Threet wasn't horrible. He did ok, for his first year as a starting QB and against a very tough schedule? Imagine if he got to play the MAC every week, I think his stats would look much different.Well, let's take a look at his stats in the one and only game he HAS played against a little old MAC team, one that also was a pretty week defensive unit.Link7 of 11 for 55 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT......hmmm only so-so. I know it was only one game, but every time I watched this guy play last year I was totally unimpressed. True his line didn't give him much time, but even when they did he rarely took advantage. He may play better wherever he winds up (he could hardly do worse) but he's not as good as Jacq at this point.....no way. It's just my opinion of course.Jacq was 16-23 for 226 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT against this same defense, BTW.Can we all just take a dose of reality pill here... Chris Jaq sucks. Not even Walt Harris is going to change that fact. The kid wouldn't start at 95% of 1-A schools. I for one will welcome any former 4 star QB prospect without personal issues into our program and I'd love to see what Walt could do with the talent. Plus, Jaq's a senior anyways (thank God) so the two would never even compete for a job.
  19. Dale Martin, in my opinion, will quickly establish himself as the feature back. Devoe and Alex don't make for bad backups though.
  20. Interesting thought. Smith is a 4-3 cover 2 guy who might not fit in at Pittsburgh. Smith will contribute next year somewhere, but he may not be a good fit for the Steelers. Could someone please check to see if DomHix is a free agent this year? If I had to decide between Smith or Hix on the Steelers, Hix would be an immediate improvement over Nate Washington. Washington is a free agent this year and they could easily replace him. With an aging Ward and Sweed who seems to have forgotten that part of his job description is catching the football, Hix would be a great fit next year and in the future. The best Hix will ever be is a #2 receiver and he could fit that bill for a long time in Pittsburgh. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea if he is indeed a free agent. He would also be a great kick returner which the Steelers really need to improve upon.I'd rather the Steelers sign a white guy personally. Anybody else agree??
  21. Some of the stuff I used to read in that sorry excuse for a paper would almost make me laugh if it wasn't making me sick first. The whole "doesn't reflect the views of the paper" thing cracks me up too. How about reflecting the views of the campus? Unlike the flower children at the school down the road, the Akron student body is pretty conservative in comparison to most campuses. One of the funniest things I've ever seen was in my last year at Akron in '04, when I went back to finish up my degree. After months of printing Bush-bashing, pro-Kerry propaganda bullshit, the Buchtelite sponsered a student election poll. Thinking that they were going to see a huge Kerry victory on campus, I would've loved to have seen their faces when it came back that most of the student body was actually voting for Bush! And then they had to print it in their little liberal rag LOL.
  22. Unless we start dominating the MAC with our new facilities and get into a better conference, we'll never really "compete" with OSU for anything. Any recruit we brought in this year, OSU could've had them if they wanted them, and that's just a reality. The only time that might be an exception is when we start seeing kids who's dad's played at Akron wanting to come here and follow in their footsteps, and we've never really seen that to this date.We just don't really have the fan support and tradition to compete with OSU as a mid-major. It does happen in other places, for example ECU competes with the ACC Carolina schools for recruits, Memphis competes with Tennesee, Southern Miss competes with Miss St and Ole Miss, and TCU competes with a lot of the Texas BCSers for recruits, but that just simply isn't the case here.
  23. i dont know why not. i seen him play a few times and he was an outstanding back. also played some DB.Only so many scholarships and starting to get deep at RB?Then again, raw athletes never hurt a team. You could move him to DB, KR, PR, etc.Huge mistake not recruiting this kid if you ask me. The only reason he wasn't a BCS recruit is because he played at a small school not known as a football power. This one might come back to bite us in the behind.
  24. http://www.dynastyreps.com/grant/This might be one of the most egotistical things I've ever seen from a player of such limited ability. I don't know who's filling this kid's head with crap, but he (or more likely his parents) are really getting taken for a ride by this "Dynasty training" thing down in South Florida. If you're good enough you're good enough, if you're not, you're not. Mr. Grant seems to be wasting his time, spending God knows how much money, down in South Florida when he should just be up in Akron training with the strength staff and looking for a real job to fall back on just in cast his .0001 % chance of making the NFL doesn't work out. I feel bad for him after seeing that.
  25. More than likely.
