http://baltimoresportsreport.com/towson-fo...land-22509.html Waddell's been very successful in his short time at Towson, and has really got that athletic department and community cookin'. Kind of makes you wonder what sort of shape our athletic program (and specifically, football program) would be in if the advice of the athletic alumni had been followed when we were hiring an AD. As for this ad campaign, for those of you who know Mike, it's got his name writen all over it!

You're right, forgot about him.

Paul Winters Doesn't Want to Win at Akron
InTheZone replied to NanNewWin's topic in Akron Zips Football
Plus, Winters resume in 2011 coming off at least a national runner-up season looks a lot better than in 2009 coming off 6-5. He was in the middle of rebuilding in '09. We knew he could take an awful team to middle of the pack then. He showed he knows how to complete the process in '11. He took a team from nothing to national champion (or at at the very least, almost national champion). The last piece of the puzzle was put in place. -
Paul Winters Doesn't Want to Win at Akron

I really don't see how you're not getting Captain's logic here. TW DIDN'T pass on Winters two years ago. He didn't pass on anyone. He had his guy from the start, gave token interviews to make it look like there was a process, and hired his buddy. End of story. -
Pass. I watched a Div II game one time because I heard Steve McNair was NFL talent. But I want to see talent for my time. And you've sat through Zips games for the past two seasons? I guarantee you'll see more guys tomorrow morning who will be in NFL camps than you saw all year playing for our Blue and Gold. Sad but true fact. Winters has two guys this year, the safety and the wide-out, who are projected to either be drafted or high priority free agents. He had a couple guys in NFL camps last year. He put a RB in the NFL two years ago. More talent than we've had come through here recently.

Paul Winters Doesn't Want to Win at Akron
InTheZone replied to NanNewWin's topic in Akron Zips Football
I gotta admit, when I saw the title of this thread, my blood started boiling and I was about to come in here and unload! Nice post from the newbie. Obviously a guy who knows Coach Winters well, as everything he said is 100 percent true. -
Wrong... here's an article on the differences in having success in D1, 2, and 3. As the article points out, D2 is very similar to D1, and D3 is kind of its own very different world. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2962812 Here's the bottom line skip... you can continue to bash Winters and search for every excuse you can to do so, or you can get on board. He's our next head coach, he has the support of a vast majority of people on this board and UA fans in general, and you would be better suited to just accept that, get on board, and help him make this thing a winner than to continue to bitch, moan, and make things up.

Didn't George Thomas write something pretty inflamatory a few years back about the Zips and mention Zipsnation.org, or am I thinking of someone else? I remember the sports editor sent someone on here a pretty condescending email, but I thought Thomas had done something similar.

Wow, crazy good hire for Arkansas State....
InTheZone replied to InTheZone's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Or he could see the potential to build ASU into a power and get them into a BCS conference. Arkansas is a pretty big state to only have 1 BCS team and 2 FBS teams. A lot of football talent in that state too. -
http://www.nationalfootballauthority.com/2...es-to-name.html And got him to take a PAY CUT from his current job!! http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2...on-gus-malzahn/

Of the supposed "finalists"... Who's your choice
InTheZone replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Interesting development, If YouTube isn't sleeping, I'm hoping he was/is on the phone tonight. Maybe I missed it, what are we supposed to take from this article?? -
Sounds like the college equivalent of the Steelers approach in the NFL. Seems to have worked well for both Wayne State and the Steelers.

Of the supposed "finalists"... Who's your choice
InTheZone replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Zach will have very little ammo if that's his plan. While Winters first season may not produce a ton of wins, we will see competitiveness, fire, and competence in managing a football team and coaching a football game, something that has been sorely lacking around here recently. By year #2 Zach will be embarrassed to have ever opposed his candidacy, as will a few other people around here. Ianello gave us a lot to gripe about both with his hire and lack of qualifications and his ability to run a football team. Winters certainly will not. -

InTheZone replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Stoops may in fact be a candidate, as reported by CollegeFootballTalk.com, but there's another name I heard mentioned on another site by someone claiming to have a source, saying the coach had contacted the search committee (I'm so sick of the he said, she said crap, but I'll play...): http://www.umterps.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt...en_ralph00.html -

My mistake, I meant Mark, the coordinator at FSU, not the failure at Arizona. -
I can't say more than if he is offered the job, he will be our next head coach. Take it to the bank. It's up to TW to make that offer though.
-
It's pretty common practice, especially in the South, to hire high school coaches directly to 1A position coaching jobs. Good coaches are found at all levels, and if Winters has recognized a talented coach, he would be stupid not to include them on his staff just because they are young and don't have the same background as maybe some guy who has been coaching for 20 years and failed over and over and over again.

Simple poll to get a firm grasp on who is the choice of this board amongst the finalists.

Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?
InTheZone replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Is this the kind of crap we can expect from George Thomas? He calls the Wayne State Warriors the "Lions" (apparently he has his pro and college teams confused) and offers absolutely zero outside of what he's copying from the work other journalists have already done. -
Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?
InTheZone replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
And you don't know that they didn't, so what's your point Zach? All I'm saying is, IF we're waiting on Winters, that in no way proves that there wasn't a process. Does Akron still offer courses in logic? If so, sign up for it and get back to me. -
Of course he is. Pick the defensive guy who has no chance of getting hired because the mac is an offensive league. It gives you something to bitch about during this off season and the first losing season. You will have 18 months of material. Right on.

Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?
InTheZone replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
If the choice has been made that its Winters, that doesn't mean there wasn't a search, that doesn't mean there wasn't a process. The process led to Winters, and the announcement has to be delayed for obvious reasons. I don't know of anyone in the athletic department coming out in the last week saying, "The process is ongoing." Most people who look at our situation and objectively look at the candidates will come to the same conclusion that the search committee has PERHAPS come to. -
Wayne State vs. Winston-Salem live on ESPN3
InTheZone replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
You're unimpressed with the #6 offense in the country. OK You point to one school in D2 and act like that's the accurate represenation of D2 football. Wayne State plays in the GLIAC, which includes teams like Grand Valley State, which average more people per game than we do (in people actually in the seats, not the tickets sold to sponsers trying to keep our D1 status afloat). There are a lot of great coaches that have come out of the GLIAC, including Brian Kelly, who worked a miracle at CMU and Cinci. There are many more, do some research and get back to me. I don't know who in the heck you think we're going to get to come here who is more qualified than Paul Winters, but your constant bashing and ignorance is getting old. -

InTheZone replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Do you really expect Coach Winters to allow his name to be announced for another job when he's playing for a national championship this week? C'mon Cap, you're better than that. IF Coach Winters is the guy, then TW is doing the right thing by allowing him to finish his national championship run.
