  1. I had one more thought around the 5 seed selection by the NCAA (bear with me because I live right in the middle of ACC country). All agree there is not logical or mathematical reason for the 5 seed based on our RPI and Coaches Poll ranking....the big win comment made to our AD is total BS. How about this........Caleb Porter is leaving UofA and the NCAA. He has been great for NCAA soccer and brought popularity to the game. As I said, I live in the middle of ACC and my friends talk about loving to watch my team play. Now that Caleb is leaving, is this a bit of an F U to UofA (we are going to put you back in your place type thing). Seriously, think about why Ken Lolla left. He could not win a championship at Akron and the MAC, but Caleb did it. What conference is Lousville in? What conference got 3 of the top 4 seeds. Just sayin'
  2. How about.......UCONN did not even make it to the final of their own Conference championship. So theoretically they are the 3rd or 4th best team in their own conference which I guess the NCAA deems to equate to the 4th best team in the entire country. Hell, why do the rest of us play if the Big East is so good.
  3. I sent this to the contact on the NCAA Men's College Soccer committee (not holding my breath for an response but I feel a little better now) Ms. Keller, As one of many angry Akron soccer fans, I would like an explanation how the University of Akron was given a #5 seed in this year’s NCAA Men's soccer tournament. As I look at your website, Akron is ranked number one in the coaches poll and number 2 in the RPI however when it came time to seed the teams and reward them with home field advantage for your NCAA tournament they were given a #5 seed. Akron has ended their regular season by winning their last 14 games (giving up only ONE goal and posting 13 shut outs). They made it to the 3rd round of the NCAA tournament in 2011, WON the National Championship in 2010 and tied Virginia in the National Championship in 2009. In addition to all of this we have an incredibly loyal (and disappointed) fan base that consistently averages in the top 5 in attendance year after year. I realize past records do not dictate this years seedings but the point is that we are not a flash in the pan team. How can you explain this? What is the point in having a coaches poll or a RPI ranking if the decisions will simply be made subjectively? I would appreciate a response, A Zips Fan
  4. I cannot help but think of the terrible offsides call against Creighton that turned our win in to a draw What I dont understand is the NCAA bias in soccer. We have one of the best attendance records in college soccer. If they want to promote popularity and put asses in the seat, we are even more of an attractive team to give home field advantage to. I get it a little more with football where attendance jumps dramatically for the bigger schools but this makes absolutely no sense.
  5. That call cost me money. Green Bay was favored by 3. Maybe the ref had money on Seattle........just sayin'
  6. So which are you cj? You say as a Penn State undergrad "I hope WE beat the crap out of the Zips" then you say "WE just got crushed by UCF" If you are saying WE (Penn State) hope you beat the crap out of the Zips".......don't say WE just got crushed by UCF........You my friend are not US.
  7. They just showed highlight shots and didnt show our gamewinning goal
  8. Now we know why Creighton has such a long home winning streak. The announcers are barely even commenting on it.
  9. Why not before it becomes illegal. Funniest post yet.
  10. I feel dummer after watching that guy.
  11. We have a coach that has won a National Championship, Coach of the Year and the son of the winning coach in CFB history. Wins will certainly help but he is going to get good players.....mark my words. He is an extremely charismatic, well connected, persuasive guy. And lets not forget our defensive coordinator, Chuck Amato, he is pretty credible himself. My hope these two guys alone, just by being who they are will make our team BELIEVE they are better. I don't think anyone had confidence in iCoach and they were just going through the motions.
  12. See if this works. This will definately be a poster.......
  13. Check out this goal by Mattocks in extra time....(Nanchoff congratulating), fast forward to around the 6:30 mark. Air Mattocks
  14. I was thinking the same thing. He sure does not hold on to the ball long before making a decision and getting rid of it. Wow!
  15. First of all, I do not think they will change anything. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world so.......if it aint broke, don't break it. Personally I do not like penalty kicks deciding a match because there is too much luck involved. The hardest thing to do in ALL of sports is for a goalie to stop a penalty kick. The only way to stop one is to GUESS properly and even if you guess properly, a well struck/placed PK is unstoppable. I think the best alternative would be to do something similar to hockey. A "shootout" where you have a one on one breakaway against the goalie and a limited amount of time to get the shot off. There is a lot more strategy involved in it and it is exciting.
  16. I am suprised.......My thought is a sellout for sure. Exciting new coach, Coach Tressell promoting and a good team coming in.
  17. Dude, get a grip. We have Terry Bowden as head coach, Caleb Porter (best soccer coach in U.S.), Keith Dambrot (fantastic coach with ties to Lebron) and now we have Jim Tressel (at $200K) working for us. What are you bitching about? This hire is 100% genius. We need publicity and excitement to support the new facilities and get the community excited. Tressel is class and so was Joe Paterno (RIP). I cannot believe anyone would bitch about this hire. If we dont move to a better conference all of these facilities will rot.
  18. Hopefully this is our diamond in the rough. Does seem weird that he was not highly recruited. Has stats, size, winner. I like what I see.....WELCOME Dan!
  19. Ok Folks, I have not posted in a while but I have to say I am excited about our future. I have always said hiring and keeping quality coaches are the key. So much bitching about TW but holy shit look at the staff of coaches he has now. He has done this by paying for performance and keeping highly desirable coaches (Porter and Dambrot). Look at last years Capital One Standings. Now we have Terry Bowden for our Football coach. STFU all of you. Support the teams and pay to sit in the seats so we can pay the people.....maybe move in to a bigger conference. Men's Cup Standings 1 - Auburn (60pts) 1 - Eastern Washington (60pts) 3 - Akron (40pts) 4 - Delaware (36pts) 4 - TCU (36pts) 6 - Oregon (35pts) 7 - Stanford (32pts) 8 - Villanova (30pts) 9 - Appalachian State (24pts) 9 - Louisville (24pts
  20. Weak staff "think small attitude in the Faust days? - Faust had an all-star staff.
  21. If he wants the job, we will hire him........penalties or no penalties. You want to talk about toxic.....how toxic is our football program right now. We need to make this happen, it is a dream come true that can right the ship. He is a good man, well respected who paid the price for not disclosing kids trading jerseys and rings for tattoos. Sorry, but I think there are alot worse things you could be accused of (see Penn State). Is he the only coach for us...........ABSOLUTELY.........this is a rare opportunity. Money - I don't think I am overstating this but he could potentially help us sell out Infocision for the entire year (especially with a good start to the season). That (along with being a terrible football team) is what is and will prevent us from ever being considered to go to a better conference. With the conferences realigning, we have got to make a move NOW or it is back to 1AA (or whatever it is called). If that happens, you just wasted a shit load of money on a new state of the art stadium. If we go to a bigger conference, we will get more money by being in the conference and attendance will be boosted even more because the quality of the teams will improve. Recruiting - I can assure you there are young men out there in the state of Ohio that have grown up dreaming to play for Jim Tressel. He is our best chance to get some decent recruits in quickly. We need to start winning. I won't post his records but they are impressive......showing turnarounds and national championships. Lowlights from the last 2 years 2011 11/25/2011 Kalamazoo, Mich.
