Make that 4 people and there are umpteen million ways the university could make money......and don't!
-
Please tell me it is the D that is kicking the $#!+ out of these guys and that they will continue to do this when the season rolls around!I was thinking the same thing, cause I sure ass heck hope that our tailbacks aren't soft!
-
Some of the comments at the bottom of the article simple amaze me. I just don't understand why all the animosity against the U of A.

We really shouldn't say a program sucks, especially since we lost to them 41-24.

My money is on Ball State.

Brian Kelly Top Choice for Tennessee?
Ryno aka Menace replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think there is way to many better choices, like Navy's coach, Ball States coach, and Utah's coach just to name a few -
I think it is funny how football fans are quick to call Massillon's State titles bogus because they were "voted"....hmm isn't that what college football is right now? If college football implemented a playoff I bet alot of so called powers would no longer be a factor.
-
Aw man this is terrible news, he and Mary Lou Gribshaw used to stay on my case!! I am glad they did cause I wouldn't be where I am today if they didn't.

The graduate assistantship usually involves a tuition waiver (you still pay the fees) and a stipend (room or board not included). As an engineering grad assistant, my stipend was 13k in the masters program and 16k in the Ph D program. I know a fellow Ph D candidate in the college of education and his stipend is 11k.So, i don't know the exact answer to your question but that is the grad. assistantship ballparkSo quiting my job to try to be a college coach is not going to be financially possible, when your trying to raise a family. Who knows maybe I'll hit the lottery, and won't have to worry about income and can then chase my dream to be a college coach.

What does a grad assistant get paid, if they get paid at all? It seems like if you want to break into the college coaching profession that is the easiest and quickest way.

South FloridaUConnCinciLouisvilleI don't recall any of the above mentioned teams dominating their former conferences. What made these school more ready than Akron? Their attendance? Their winning history?Well in 2000 UConn football started playing 1A football only had 2 wins and had an average attendance of 14K, they joined the Big East in 2004 and are now averaging 38K. Care to guess what they averaged in before that?South Florida graduating to I-A status in 2001. South Florida won 17 games in its first two seasons as an independent, then joined Conference USA for two years. In 2004, South Florida joined the Big East.South Florida now averages 53K......care to guess what they averaged before '04Louisville now averages 39KCinci now averages 30K, care to guess what they averaged before joining the Big East?Akron's average attendance is a bloated 16K, and we have been D1 a lot longer than South Florida and UConn!! Do you think Jim Levitt of South Florida gets the same recruits he did when he was in DII? Do you think we would get the same talent level of recruits if we were in the Big East? Of course not. And another thing, why do you assume we would lose if we joined the Big East? We already beat one team in the conference and should have beaten 2!!! It may take time but with better recruits on top of what we are currently doing seems to me like we would be competitive. In 2003 we lost to UConn by 1 point and they went 9-3 that year!
-
Another reason why we need out of this conference! (insert picture of beating a dead horse)
-
I think the Cinci and BG games cost us a bowl, we needed to win one of the two. I think we are gonna look back at the end of the season and say those games were critical to post season play.

Somebody finally gives us a little credit for Syracuse

Another slap in the face, this article basically reiterates what myself and others have been saying about scheduling. Schedule teams that you can BEAT to pad your win column.http://myespn.go.com/blogs/pac10/0-3-135/P...scheduling.htmlQUOTE:No more Georgias or Penn States or TCUs or Oklahomas or Boise States.Bring on the MAC or Conference USA or the directional schools. That's how a team -- and a conference -- gains national esteem. -
I like the all blue, the all white, and the all gold! Let's buy them!
-
Explain to me why we have to win all these things first before we "move on"?Can't we get really good somewhere else just as easy (if not easier) than where we are?I'm not saying we are moving or not, I just don't understand the point of "winning" and THEN moving.Exactly Louisville, Cinci, South Florida, and UConn haven't won jack!! Neither has East Carolina, or Memphis which are the other teams rumored to be going next. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Marshall and Central Florida beat us to the punch and move to the B.E. first.

I know when I played very few would attempt to sneak out if any. Coaches come by the rooms to check to see if you are there pretty late in the night. Twice in my career the ones that did got caught. It's just not worth it. You obviously never ran the Rubber Bowl stairs all the way around. I'm a grown ass man and I would slap my momma to get outta stadium stairs. Most wait till after the game to get hammered. A win lets get hammered, we lost throw a pity party and get hammered.
-
Unfortuantely I think this is a catch 22 because alot of the local fans could care less about the MAC opponents. The casual football fan (which is what we need to reach 25K plus in attendance i.e. 2005 bowl game) could care less about us playing Temple, OU, or Eastern Michigan. When I try and get friends to come to an Akron game, they ask who are they playing? Response is North Texas or Northern Illinois, or Temple and I get that stare that says

Is it OK to be overly confident? In 2006 when we beat NCState I thought for sure we would crush the Flushes. And we went out and got beat! Now hear it is again...we have a BCS win and I feel like we should crush the Flushes. They have injuries they have 1 win over a FCS school, and they still have a shot at the east division as long as they get a win over us. So best believe they will be motivated. JD history better not repeat itself!!!

If we don't have the money for 2 sets of helmets that is a damn shame, when Massillon HIGH School can afford 2 sets of helmets!!!! If a gold impregnated helmet cost too much why not make the second set of helmets blue to mix things up. Hell Oregon has 4 sets..green, white, yellow, and black. And we can't afford 2 sets?!!!
-
I've alway thought that a zipper (instead of a single stripe down the center of the helmet) would look cool. With the open end being in the back. Gold helmet showing the blue underneath and a blue facemask. And put the sleeker roo jumping on the side. This incorporates history and originality. Take Colorado's uni's and change the black to a dark blue. Leave the grey and gold as is. The slight grey trim on the uni's would match the subtle grey zipper on the helmet. If I was good a photoshop I would do it myself.

This comment on their board pissed me off...."We will most likely outdraw the home team with our fan support."That better not happen

The East is in the House - OU is beating Central
Ryno aka Menace replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
I can't believe my zips, can't believe OU lost, I can't believe we really might finish at the bottom of the MAC east like everyone picked. I still am going to be optimistic and hope they are wrong and we just had a bad showing today. -
