  1. I'm sure Bubba will be cool with that. Maybe he should transfer???
  2. Can't goes down in Athens. 71-59 Good sign IMO.Go Zips, Beat BGSU!!!!
  3. Hell, I hope they do 'cause if Can't takes them down easily, we're in big big trouble!Anyone else worried about a BG let down???? I sure am, but KD seems pretty good at having these guys focused for their opponents.
  4. They did! It's above! AV did a great job translating.
  5. From what I saw last night, OU has some GREAT athletes! How many times did their big guys pull up to nail a jumper or toss in a hook? Tillman is in a league of his own! I'm not the BB expert, but they seemed to take better shots or were fundamentally better shooters. Wood was all alone under the basket, he needs some help down there. I also got the impression we weren't as disciplined. When we were up by 9, we made several bad decisions that allowed them to quickly get back into the game. We had a lot of shots that were off balance, forced, or passed up good looks. This may have been a result of the team working for a good look since OU was really playing D. Crowd was GREAT! I got to the game just before the tip, and wasn't worried about getting a ticket. Boy was I suprised when I walked in to see a nearly packed house! Loud, energetic, and boy did that guy with the microphone get the crowd pumped up!!! Didn't expect that many people there, I think this is a VERY good sign that people are taking notice of the program! As for the officiating, whe have some people saying the ref's sucked, and others thowing around numbers to say how even they are. From my seat, the majority of the first half was atrocious. Akron was getting called for anything and everything, while it was OK for the OU to pound away. The turning point, IMO, was when the crowd finally got fed up. We're not a bunch of idots and know what legitimate fouls are. Sure we will disagree at times, but everyone knows when they are REALLY getting screwed. After one call, the crowd just kept coming at the refs and I think the refs realized that they would have some serious crowd problems on National TV if they didn't shape up. Things calmed down from there and actually, I think the refs were biased the other way against OU in the 2nd half. I think almost everyone agrees that Bubba's shot at the end of the game was selfish. In my mind, he has been thinking about that shot for the last two years. Akron's the top team in the MAC, he hits the big 3 IN AKRON allowing OU to win the game! He's the hero in Athens and sticks it to his old team and fans who hate him on their home court! He couldn't pass it up. He took the shot and missed. I'm glad he's not at Akron. In the end, I think OU was a higher quality team, and if home court means that much, I don't give us much chance when it comes to playing in Athens. I haven't seen Can't this year, but if they are that much better than OU, we're in trouble. Hopefully this team can contiune to grow so that we are that much better when it comes to MAC Tourney time.
  6. Is that JD? Sure looks like it, but no glasses!
  7. Valid points. Retail is essentially non-existant in downtown. As for the museum, I think it's great. The Wife and I went there for the Normal Rockwell exhibition. Great, great facility!
  8. Damn it. You're the kid who told all the other kids in Kindergarten that there is NO SANTA aren't you?!? At least let me believe that I have some impact on the outcome of the game!!!
  9. I just hope KD has the guys very focused for this game. No let downs this year. OU is a good team and we've got to take care of buisness in OUR HOUSE!
  10. I think the key here is that the properties were purchased nearly a decade ago. I interpret this to mean that the city either did it to keep the area around the Civic theater (or maybe even the theater) from being razed for other development or, they thought it was a good deal. Now, today, they finally have someone to redevelop the existing buildings. Is it a loss for the city and an unwise use of tax dollars? Depends. The city will be bringing in approximately $300,000 every year in taxes from this project, so the payback at this point in time really doesn't cover the initial cost. But, if this specific redevelopment continues or even further spurs reinvenstment in downtown, then it was a good use of tax dollars. Think about it, the existing area surrounded by Exchange, Cedar, Main, and Broadway will become student housing in a few years, and this will be a candidate to replace that lost space. IMO, this is a very good thing. I remember my first trip to Downtown Akron, my Freshman year. I was not a good area to be in and I didn't go back for probably 2 years, even though I lived in Grant and the Townhouses. I wonder, did the purchase of Q Square give this redevelopment a push???? Got to wonder!
  11. Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I don't really see an urgent, pressing need for a downtown arena. Once we can start filling the JAR, then, maybe we need it, but I would favor jacking up ticket prices if the JAR keeps selling out rather than build a new arena. Also, from some of the descriptions on the board here, we probably have a really good home court advantage with the JAR and don't need to give that up. Sure, the JAR may need some rennovation in the future, and maybe we should just upgrade. I'm not a big fan of sports complexes as a means to redevelop a downtown, especially in cities without Major Pro teams.
  12. I love how the MAC will do anything to piss off it's loyal fans for "National Exposure". It also seems that all to often, we move the game dates, people change their schedules around, and ESPN decides that it will probably get better ratings if it were to show POKER, and move the game to a channel nobody gets at the last minute. In the end, I guess they are pretty smart, because if you're a MAC fan, then you are probably gonna follow that product no matter what happens. I'll be at the game, but I doubt anyone will be able to join me because of the time, so I'll probably grab one of the lower reserved seats since I don't have to shell out for additional tickets! I can probably get a blue wig if necessary.
  13. Lets assume that it ISN'T on cable and the only way to see the game is to go to the JAR! See everyone there!
  14. It will be interesting to keep an eye on that area of town to see what happens in the next few years. My guess is that you will see some new establishments pop up with 200+ new full time residents in the area. I read a lot of comments criticizing UA for the purchase, but you watch, UA will be THE force revitalizing downtown in the future. How many cities are trying to get more residential space downtown to help bring it to life?? UA just pumped 200+ people into downtown in one weekend. I would not be suprised if the exising hotel space becomes additional dorms in 2 years and the other, currently unused space mentioned in the article eventually gets turned into dorm space. Result: 400+ residents living in downtown in 2 years. What would Cleveland or Detroit do to get that??? Now, what happens if UA buys the Mayflower????
  15. Great segway. I now live in Elyria, and I can't get the Zips on the radio!?! WTF. I'm about 1hr from Akron and 1350 dies at the Akron city limits. I also see that 1490 AM carries the game, but I don't seem to get that either. This should be a priority, at least broadcast the Zips on the radio over the area where you want to build your fanbase. God knows I don't have any problems getting OSU broadcasts, hell, they cut in the pregame show IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG on one radio station I was listening to today. Apparently OSU can't wait one extra minute for the pre-game, but we already know what type of weight an OSU Pre-game carries around here.
  16. I don't believe this was much of a secret. I think it was what, 15 years that the name was going to be Jacobs Field and then they were going to sell the naming rights again. The same thing will happen with InfoCision Stadium and Summa Field.
  17. Actually, I did just that thing earlier this year. I was a bit confused though, because there were a LOT of people around me wearing BOTH Akron and OSU gear. I guess they knew before any of us that Fingerhut is going to merge Akron and OSU.
  18. That is a great idea, let me put that last post into my handy-dandy English-to-OSU interpreter and see what comes out: Amazing how well it works isn't it?
  19. So what is wrong with just pointing a camera at the court and pushing play? Is it really that hard??
  20. I'm watching Fingerhut on TV right now (PBS). His main point is to establish centers of excellence in specific disciplines that are accessable to all throughout the state. Specifically pointed out that each school can't have the top program in the same discipline. Seems to me that some areas of study will get axed at some schools and will grow at other schools. Then, I anticipate expanded internet based "Distance Learning" will allow all to access to these centers of excellence to all. Oh, and a great quote from the program:"My friend says he graduated from Can't State with a degree in unemployment!"Yup, sounds about right!
  21. Agreed. I too wish we got more press, but we aren't for whatever reason. So, we are the underdog, the unknown team. Hopefully the team plays with a chip on it's shoulder. Win the MAC, and who cares about SOS.
  22. So it appears that home court advantage means a LOT. Why is this? Is it simply the fact that it's a hostile crowd? This doesn't seem to make a huge difference in football, so why in BB? Is it the atmosphere? The home team is used to shooting the ball at that specific basket with the background, etc. and the away team needs to adjust? Finally, please describe a "bandbox"
  23. I don't think I would ever openly approach someone and lay into them if they are wearing OSU garb at an Akron game. Don't get me wrong, it really, really frustrates me, but in the end they aren't hurting anyone so they can do what they want. What frustrates me the most is how little press the other teams get in this state. I don't care if the Toledo Blade doesn't carry any Akron coverage, but for GODS SAKE can the ABJ step it up?? How about some coverage out of the Cleveland stations??? UA and Can't combined have as many students as OSU, and we are local! Americans in general are going to blindly follow what the media pumps to them, and they get pumped OSU because that is the only sports program that is consistenly good in this state. In the end, the only thing that is going to get a lot of people to cheer for Akron is when we start to win. PERIOD! So until then, I'll continue to talk about Akron and invite people I know to Akron events. That is what I can do to make people more aware of UA.
  24. Being a relative newbie to MAC BB, I am a bit confused. From what I’ve read so far this year, this was pretty much the preseason rankings. Can't StateMiamiOUAkronMiami did pretty good in a very tough OOC schedule. Can't played UNC and Xavier. OU played Kansas and Temple. Akron played a weak schedule, beat Temple and took Dayton to 2OT.So, after the first week or so of MAC play here’s where we stand:Can't squeaks out a win against Buffalo.Miami get pummeled in AkronOU loses to BGAnd then the PD posts this: http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2008/01/m..._insider_2.htmlSo, this is where I’m confused. In my mind, Akron has GOT to be considered as strong as any team in the MAC right now. Despite crushing Miami, we don’t move up in the Mid-Major poll, and still don’t seem to get any respect. I mean, I think this Miami win was HUGE, but apparently nobody else feels this way. So what am I missing here? There is a LOT of MAC BB left, and by the time it’s over, we’ll know who the best team is, but I would like a little insight.
  25. I agree with those OSU fans that feel they should schedule tougher opponents. Then, we wouldn't waste so many BCS Championship games with blowouts! I'll also remember, next year, if the Zips aren't playing for the National Championship, to NOT watch the game and think of ways to improve our team and post them here. That way, JD can read them (Since he won't be watching the game either) and get some new ideas that he or his coaching staff hasn't thought of yet!
