Some ESPN Highlights on the MAC & Akron

I agree with captain except for one thing. Everytime i walked by that tailgating lot it seemed empty. Not because people already walked up to the game, but their lot spaces were empty. Maybe if the peole have something invested into it they will use the space and build upon that. Not jut $50 for the season becasue anyone will throw that money out there, but more like $50 per game. I personally think that price is insane. I feel that the price should be at $100 which is equal to $20 per game with some extra giveways and free parking for those folks. That sounds more than fari to me. How many spaces are there? like 15? multiply that by 100 and athletics just created a $1500 budget for giveaways in the tailgate sections. Doesn't that make sense? Either way we are :macc: and what do you guys think about trying to out-do SUK 3 to 1 in ttendance at their place this year? that would be great!
-
you would be correct. Hunter will start in June.

Don't make assumptions about our team without first getting the facts. We lost most of our starting offensive line, star Kerry Wright at WR, and a good runningback after the '04 season. Banner year? That's what we expected, but no one else was. You need to take a look at what the national media was saying about us in the preseason. And maybe you were rebuilding last year. Memphis who finished in the middle of the road in CUSA last season sure did expose that in the Motor City Bowl. so what bowl game did you guys play in?
-
i agree with you there 100%. it's always nice to have a glorified title!

I thought the athletic department had to pay the band to be there at games. Yes, folks, this is true. So now you want to pay the individual students, and pay the band?As far as the fight song - does anybody except the band even know the words? What good does it do to play it a million times if nobody even knows it - heck the cheerleaders sing something in the middle that nobody even can understand. It's a joke. And I agree, ditch the eat em up stuff. Our band often looks like a bunch of geeks who are in denial that they are geeks. They look embarrassed to ham it up. Like they know they're supposed to be nutty college kids, but they're just so darn self-conscious that they can't let loose. The best bands know they are geeks and really ham it up. Or they're like the bands at HBCs (historically black colleges) who aren't geeks but know how to entertain and enliven crowds. My suggestion: Send one or two band members to several different schools within a five or six hour drive. Ask questions. Watch them do what they do best: have fun. Bring back a bunch of ideas and have a weekend band summit where everything is tossed out as a possibility. And work with the cheerleaders better. Talk about a disconnect. It's getting slightly better, but it's still really sloppy.I don't know the band director, but if he's wound too tight, which would be my assumption, then maybe we need some wild student assistance now and then. I just don't think our band gets athletic events, I really don't. Ok, well let me go over for you what exactley it is that they pay us. $200 for the entire semester. Never mind that that is less than half of what it costs for tuition for the one credit hour class and about $100 of that goes towards paying for you three shirts (polo, white and blue t-shirt) as well as shoes, gloves, etc. Lets break this down as if you were being paid for an actual job.Semester is 15 weeks with three rehersals a week for 2:30 hours per rehersal give or take a bit. That is 112 hours and 30 minutes of rehersals over the entire semester. But wait, it doesn't stop there. Gameday Saturdays (please do not take this as a rant on not wanting to go to the games, you all know I loves me some Zips football) is a complete wash. Average game day we put in at least 8-10 hours of rehersals and game performances. For arguements sake we will say it is 8 hours for 5 home games (thats about what we've gotten the last few years on our schedule). So bump that 112:30 up another 40 hours to 152:30. But it doesn't stop there my friend. No, there is also band camp. 5 days of 9-9 plus the first Sunday of noon-9 so right there is another 69 hours. So now we are up to 221:30 worth of time invested into a one credit hour class. That $200 comes out to less than a dollar an hour for the entire semester. The football team is all on full scholarships (again, let me clarify myself, I am not trying to say that marching band members have to go through as much as football players like some of my delusional and jaded former fellow bandmates would like to believe) why not give a handful of dedicated bandsmen and women the opportunity at at least some kind of meaningful scholarship money instead of an insulting and idiotic $200 at the end of the semester? I shall remove myself from the soapbox. hoow about being in the band for the spirit of things and stop bitching. a lot of bigger schools run their pep bands, which are actually good, on a completely voluntary basis. don't try to call me out on it because this is a fact! The only reason you get paid anything is becasue it used to be hard to get band members to play at UA events. Hopefully that has been changing over the course of time. Thisi s now a way for you to be at the home of events for FREE and have a part in everything. Do you know how much is costs to bus the band and feed the band for two trips to detroit? i didn't think so. you gota free ride, food, tv exposure and went ot the MACC and motor city bowl for free! It's called perks... so shut it!

preferred stock and common stock are different. so the analogy is not quite the same.

This is just my biased perspective, but nobody is really giving the Zips any credit this year. Yes, they are lucky to get to the MACC last year, but the fact is that they won it! The 2006 Zips are way better than last year team. This is the year that Brookhart said when he first came here that this was year he thought he could win the MAC. If you think Biggs is a loss in the ground game you are mistaken. We will be better running the ball with our o-line back. Our passing game will not suffer. MCB record setter Jabari Arthur will be leading the air attack at 6'4" 220 lbs. There isn't a DB in the MAC that can match him. Our defense will be faster, big and stronger with possibly the best DL in the state when you look at Jermaine Reid, Kiki Gonzalez, and past ‘uber-recruit’ Nate Robinson who was considered a top ten recruit regardless of position coming out of high school. The Zips will go 9-3 (7-1).@ Penn State 9/2/06 L – 34-21 they just have too much for us@ NC State 9/9/06 L – 24-20 watch out for this could be an upset special@ CMU 9/16/06 W – 31-24 closer than it should be, but we pull it outNorth Texas 9/23/06 W – 34-17 home opener provides a big pick-me-up@ Can't 9/30/06 W 31-10 just the usual beat down@ Cincinnati 10/07/06 W 20-17 off day, but the Zips prevailMiami 10/21/06 W 34-31 we owe them on Homecoming@ Toledo 10/28/06 L 27-20 Rockets win the home gameBGSU 11/04/06 W 24-23 last week’s loss still hurt but came throughBuffalo 11/09/06 W 38-17 not even as close as the score@ Ohio 11/16/06 W 24-17 why is Ohio getting any hype?WMU 11/24/06 W 27-20 East already wrapped up but till winMACC: Akron vs. Toledo W 38-31 revenge takenMCB: AkronGMAC: ToledoToronto: NIUBack-2-Back :macc:

the fieldhouse seating are holds 1500... so maybe 1700+ were there. they stopped counting people past 1500.

oh yes, i wagree with the two of you. I am just stating that the voting is done before any of this post season cinderella stuff happened. If the post season was included in the voting you may get a different winner indeed.
-
you DO know that the voting is done beofre any postseason play don't you? Because of this, Williams IS the 2005-06 coach of the year.

A MAC school will have the best football record
AK-Zips replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
um... right... no matter how much you want to hate OSU they are still top dog and have more talent in their bench than most any other team starts each game with. They will beat BGSU. the NIU game could go either way, but i still have to give the Cumblowus Suckeyes the edge in this one.The Zips have a great shot to play in Detroit again next year. My prediction in 8-4. When Brookhart took over i said give him until his third year; that's when the Zips will be competitive for the MAC title again. Little did i know that he would have done it in year two.By the way, did anyone catch the CFN 2006 MAC preview? It says that we will have to find some way to replace the size of our D-Line. Maybe this is jumping the gun, but with Nate Robninson, Kiki and J-Reid up front i'm not too worried. They are going to be really good this year. Most schools in the country would love to have those three guys in your 3-4.Here's to Back-2-Back :macc: ! -
UAM did not do anything with media relations. That is all Shawn Nestor. He is the contact for football. Last year the spring prospectus was released one week after the spring game. Patience young Jedi. :macc:

no refunds... word is that over 200 students already signed up for the championship game! Go Zips! :macc:

I heard from a friend of mine that Waddell is taking Matt his GA with him too! That's the guy who has done all of the student marketing, mic guy for basketball, put together all of the bus trips and started AK-ROWDIES! Does anyone know him that can confrim this? Mack needs to keep him here without a doubt! C'mon Mack!

no... Can't, akron, and miami have all clinched home byes for the first round which means that it would be immpossible for more than two of these teams to be in the same half of the bracket.1 and 4... 2 and 3 are in the same half.
-
The arena lights cannot be turned on and off so quickly because they take 20-30 minutes to show their full brightness... same and MACC and many many other arenas. All arena that have light fixtures before 1988 that have not been updates are not capable of pulling this off.
-
that would be great to see those pairings come out. I think we have a great shot. I like having Can't, OU and Maimi in the same bracket!
-
haha.... that's hilarious. We've got three big home games left... We ned to make an impact and i'll do the best i can do get all of my friends out there! GOOOOOO ZIPS!
-
...even if he is in Cinci interviewing, it would not be a good career move on his part. He would be better off getting out of MT's shadow and going somewhere else. Although he would make more money, this would not be an upgrade bcasue Nati athletics are horrible sans men's basketball. UAM would be better looking at a Big Ten school or elsewhere. He is better off doing his own thing and not always playing follow the leader.

Does anyone have a complete 2006 schedule yet?!!
AK-Zips replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
Can't State will be the fourth game of the year and the first MAC game on our schedule.
