  1. An answer to my question: http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/sto-bowden...s-fall-1.295588
  2. Sounds like a Cincinnati Bengal to me!!!
  3. Seems like the time would be right!!!
  4. Down to 4 QBs on the roster= Dalton, CM8, Pohl and the kid from LE College. Good number with 2 coming in in the Fall. Sucks that D'Orazio got hurt (shoulder separation it sounds like). Really wanted to see him on 4-21, but hope he is good by early-mid August.
  5. I think some mentioned concerns with 7 QBs. Down to 5. Always works out.
  6. With the HUGE fear of this turning into an arena thread.... UA/Tressel/Wistrcill/etc.... Give Mr. Dambrot a top notch facility to make his dream job even greater and to allow him to coach at a "major" program (Gonzaga of the MAC!!)= UA!!!
  7. Seems that getting names like Bowden and Amato is already helping with local coverage. And, wow..this George Thomas guy is awesome!! Love the dedication of the Beacon here. Also...love everything I read about Amato. Here is a guy that many of us probably would have been fine with as HC..and he is our DC!!! Two requests of Chuck= wear those sunglases (inside or out) and get rid of the 1980's Akron blue/fishing vest and hook yourself up with a nice Zips vest!!!
  8. Very nice schedule. Nice balance of good home games in Autumn weather (late Sept-early Nov). Would have loved to have a break in the middle somewhere to help the team adjust to new offense and new coaches. But, overall, no real gripes.
  9. Since I had this link and I was curious about Kansas and Weiss especially, I did a quick read of the following article. He has definitely had an interesting path to Kansas. Read/skim this article and really get a feeling for the type of coach/person in comparison to what we have in Bowden: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2012/mar/28/...tball/?football Weiss has been a failure as a head coach, for the most part. "Listening" to him here...maybe it works out for him, maybe it doesn't. But I am really glad that we have a coach and person like Bowden, b/c there is a lot in here that SOUNDS like Ianello and is just not the way I would prefer a coach to be.
  10. Practice #4 http://gozips.com/sports/fball/2012-13/rel.../20120327aj1os1 QBs thinnning out with D'Orazio at WR (good move, IMHO).
  11. No more than 5 losses next year. As someone else alluded to, the only thing that really can derail this team is it NOT coming together as a TEAM. Stay out of trouble, hit the books, practice your game, come together as a team...at-large next year.
  12. The key point in all of this is this: Arenas recently have been built "off-campus" for basketball. SD noted that in his post of DD, KFC, etc. But very few are building off-campus for football. I can't think of any, but there could be one. I know Pitt moved away from campus and to Heinz Field...and I know there is still some regret from many there..and that was quite a few years ago now. So, right or wrong, schools are building BOTH "off-campus" and on campus basketball arenas, but pretty much only on campus football fields.
  13. My thoughts: I wanted them to go for the 3 to win on the road. Play was not perfect, but it was a good look. If KD really was looking for 2, that actually disappoints me. Northwestern is a very good team. I watched CSU and Stanford. Stanford took it to CSU as CSU went cold in 2nd half. But Northwestern and Stanford are similar teams, and, IMHO, Northwestern is MUCH better than Stanford. It was a clean, well played (overall) game for 2 teams that went at it. Tough, tough loss. Sickened me, b/c I think getting that one would have lead to a trip to MSG. Side note for any Cavs fans: wouldn't you love to see the Cavs take Shurna with one of their 2nd round picks (preferably the latter) instead of throwing that pick away on some International player that never comes over. I would love to see if Shurna could be a "Korver/Kapono" type player.
  14. I have mentioned this kind of thing in the past, and Louisville is a perfect one to look at b/c they built there arena in the last couple years. My guess is they built it right near restaurants, bars and other attractions. No matter if it is done in the downtown location or more "on campus" location, I hope there are plans to have at least a couple of good places right near the arena. Again..it is something that CSU did not do properly.
  15. Always been that way. 2nd round games are March 15-19, so not sure it would necessarily be the 15th, but it could be. If we can survive the first 2 rounds, I think there is a chance at a home game in round 3. Iowa and LSU could beat Dayton and Oregon, respectively. Leaving us as the best seed left at #5. Fun to think about as a fan, but hopefully the players are focuse on tonight.
  16. AMEN!!! A run to the Final 4 for Akron could be a springboard to bigger and better things next year. Yeah, I get the "best of the rest" mentality. But there are good teams in the NIT every year, and the "68 best" don't go the the Big Dance.
  17. Next year is the year that UA finally has to put itself into serious at-large contention. Even if Zeke is not dominant, if he improves and keeps his head in the game, he is a game changer. Abreu..sop to jr year as a PG should be huge for him. Diggs is the wild card..so much potential. Walsh as a glue guy. Treadwell and Harney...need to mature and work. Gilliam..he is still and unknown to me, but definitely part of a a highly skilled, multi-dimensional 7 guys. All of them need to hit the books and avoid trouble!!!! Dambrot needs to forget about the "MAC tourney or bust" mentality and get these guys and this program believing in at-large bids!!! There just is no good reason next year's team should lose more than 5 games. I follow 5-7 teams as closesly as I can...UA, XU, OSU, CSU, BC, IU and ND (for various reasons). UA has so much potential when I compare them to those teams and others. With UA and OU, and even some of the other programs...MAC really looks to be CLOSE to finally getting 2 teams again. But UA is the key. They must wrap up the bid in the regular season!!! It hurts this year more than ever. I think they could have got past UM and then Temple/USF/Cal winner. The draw was there. UGH!!! Must take advantage of what they have next year in front of them.
  18. Good that Magnus came on here. I am a fan of both schools/bball teams and I do think there are similarities. Obviously CSU has a great venue (though sterile) that was built too big...a story that was just in the PD the other day but probably a story for another topic line. I do think the commuter school thing plays a big part. UA has the advantage of football (over CSU), but football has stunk. If you can build up the football, mix it with the passion of the soccer fans and get all that to basketball...better "chants", more unity, etc.. Nice size arena makes sense for both schools! Better marquee opponents, NCAA success (UA definitely needs that!!!), etc. helps. I think CSU is hurt at times with having no real good bars/restaurants across the street from the Wolstein Ctr...another reason I hope UA gets it right no matter where it goes (XU struggles with this as well...but obviously have built up a great program with great attendance.). UA and CSU are trying (and succeeding) in becoming less of commuter schools. It will take time, winning and creativity to build something that all can be proud of. I still see it when I am out and about and with friends and family that went to UA or CSU= lots of pride from those that went to OU, Miami, BG, etc....those that went to CSU or UA are almost "ashamed" of it or just don't exude the same pride. Again...I think more on-campus living options will build more unity. I am so product of what UA and CSU have done and continue to do with their campuses. Awesome stuff!!
  19. New format sucks!!! My cousins and I have gone to the Thursday afternoon games for at least the last 3-4 years. Now...29 minutes until the end of my work day. :-(
  20. No problem, we are good. Maybe my good writing rivals the writing expertise of Dave! I hear what you are saying about walking. Obviously, as we all know, this is a difficult decisioni and is layered with many factors to consider. As long as it is done right, I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the locations.
  21. Someone mentioned it earlier in these posts, but I do think it is important to look at who will be going to the games. Is the focus on UA alums/general fans/"Joe Akron"/etc. or is the focus on the students? Obviously, it is not so simplistic as that. But if you think that you could have good attendance from those 25 years + (alums/residents), then maybe the best focus is on the downtown location and building up that urban area. If the focus is on student attendance, then it is better to have it on campus. Again..I am generalizing a bit. One group of folks will want it where they can also go to a restaurant/bar and make a whole evening of it. The other group will want to head to the house parties/frat parties or back to their dorm. I'll speak from some personal experience as an XU alum= I love going back to games at Cintas, and it is cool to walk the campus if it happens to be a nice day. However, if I want a bite to eat or a beverage or 3...I have to take my car and the group somewhere else. It would be nice if I could park for the game, get a beer before or after and then jet. Part of their study, if it does go downtown, has to be having very accessible and comfortable transportation for students to and from the game. Again, speaking to my experience at X= when I was there, we played at the Cincy Gardens. We would take yellow school buses to the games, and it was further away than what UA would have. We never minded the transportation much, but I probably went to a few less games than I would have if it were right outside my door (as Cintas is now to many students).
  22. I would think Carter would have a heck of a chance.
  23. Seems like he is being frank. He is saying what most fans would say instead of giving "player speak" or "coach speak". "I'd rather lose this one than any of the ones coming up!!"
  24. PD (well, Cleveland.com) covering Akron: http://www.cleveland.com/ohio-sports-blog/...d_stand_be.html
  25. That Cleats is, in fact, gone. I work across the street from the building that housed Cleats.
