I'm interested to see how you guys plan on getting on the field for pregameI'm kind of hoping you guys split into two lines and march down both sets of steps to the field. It would be kind of unique.

Petition: Ending Open enrollment
g-mann17 replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
That is all well and good but...My graduating class our Dupont Scholarship winner dropped out.The class following me, the Dupont Winner, and both Chrysler Award winners dropped out. These instances happen more often than not. That is why we have the University College in the first place. I don't know how many people who are in the top 10% of their class drop out each year. Why should we give these people a shot? How is it different than giving a person with a 2.0 and an 18 on their ACT a shot? (open enrollment requirements are different than non-traditional students who come a couple of years after graduation). I could see your dismay if there was evidence that poor quality students were being pushed through to a degree, but look at our retention rate. The University fails a lot of students. The University might not be selective but the colleges (programs) are and so is the graduation requirement. I wasn't an open enrollment student, but I met several who were while at the University. Many of them were much hungrier to succeed than many of the academic scholarship kids. I just don't follow your thought process on this. -
The most recent one included information about the Bio-innovation Institute in Akron. Had a couple of researchers on the front. The "magazine" is run by the Department of Institutional Marketing and sent to Alumni.

Yeah, I thought about including them in the poll but I thought they would have a better shot at winning the Missouri Valley.
-
I notice you throw that open enrollment thing around a lot. I'm just curious...1) What suburban school did you go to?2) How long you been at Akron?3) If you are so concerned about being around the elite, why not go somewhere else?

We've all complained about the way the media picks who wins our conference. So let's see what everyone here thinks.

I'm more bent about the lack of research. And inconsistency in decisioning.Buffalo will repeat when they lost the biggest key to their offense (an overperforming Drew Willy).Ball State will scrape the bottom of the West when they are in the same situation as Buffalo (key players returning at RB and on Defense)Temple who barely squeeked out 4 wins (they kicked our butt so that doesn't count) is 2 and they lost their key offensive players, and the reason they lost was weak offense. They just don't do any real research. As I pointed out with the quote.

I think I speak for all of Zips Nation when I say..."Please let us finish better than 5th!!!!!"

Petition: Ending Open enrollment
g-mann17 replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
A lesson on selectivity and open enrollment in the public university sector.Selectivity is limited to the main campuses of universities. The reason being so that may maintain a "selective" look and so that the campus is not over booked with students. However, anyone can get a degree from Can't State Stark (open enrollment) and that degree says the same thing as a degree from Can't. Same with any of the Ohio State, BGSU, Ohio, or Miami branch campuses. If you want Akron to be more selective than push for more branch campuses and more spending at the branch campuses.Selectivity is an elitist concept and to be quite frank is a falsehood. Some kid from an innercity school with some ethnicity is going to get a spot before a white male from a much better school. Just the way that works. The only true selective schools in the state are Kenyon and Case Western. The best thing The University of Akron can do to improve prestige is to continue doing what it is doing, obtaining research dollars. The more research, the more tech, the better the University looks and the more the endowment grows. -
A Photo From UA's first practice on the new field
g-mann17 replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Football
You are right about that. I've been through the stadium twice and it is just awsome. Thanks for the photo of today's practice. Great job. I'm also taking this opportunity to encourage everyone on ZipsNation.org and more to go out and purchase an official Zips stadium flag and fly it from their front porch. I have already done so and it would be great if we started seeing Akron Zips flags outnumber OSU flags in our neighborhoos.Just any Zips flag or do they have a flag with the Info/Summa Logo on it that is available? If so where? Because I would like one. -
New Smilies to Add for the Upcoming Football Season?

Oh I understand. Don't get me wrong, this scoreboard is more than we could have imagined at the Rubber Bowl. However, its the quality of the scoreboard versus the overall quality of the stadium that bothers me. With a structure that looks so beautiful, youd think theyd want a scoreboard that would tie in with the east and west structures. Oh well.As for the lights... seriously? You're really that sour over the lights? I can understand being sad they didn't go with the original rendered design, but are they really that much of a disappointment? Have you seen the pictures everyone has posted of them? They are lightyears better than nearly every high school stadium I've ever seen (Fawcett stadium doesn't count)For comparison purposes, see Cant's stadium and West Virginia's stadiumCan't: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dix_Stad...East_Stands.JPGWest Virginia: http://www.msnsportsnet.com/page.cfm?section=7920THOSE look more like highschool than ours. Our towers have just as many if not more lights, but are also completely painted in UA Blue. Not trying to start an argument, just pointing it out.Love the conversations between pots and kettles.

Cam is "unavailable".... JD must worry that competition will watch practice....In case you missed it...Where are my web cams?

Damn than every University in the state must have done stadium work this year... These same people will complain about the high cost of education, and that the school raises tuition when they lose portions of state funding, but they also scream "We're Taxed Enough Already!"You don't get it both ways. You want cheap education, than open your wallet, otherwise quit bitching, good education costs money and Ohio still has one of the top education systems in the country.

Will there be glass between the columns on the exterior of the east stands? Will there be any paint applied to all the exposed concrete walls (field wall, lower stands)? Are you ever going to landscape the hills next to the North Endzone Facility? Will the flagpoles that are in the renderings be a part of the final project?
