  1. No chance. The guy is 60 now. Happy to have him as a WR coach, but the ship has sailed on him being a D1 HC.
  2. UA Alumni are holding a "Renew Your Wedding Vows" Ceremony in Lot #10 prior as part of their Homecoming festivities on Saturday. They offered a first come first served 8 spots beginning around 11:00 am for alumni couples (5 minutes per couple). So the wife and I are taking a 30 minute break from normal tailgating to do it. Should be fun. Interesting note - the Zips got beat by BGSU on our wedding day 31 years ago. I recall it was 35-0 at he half. I was listening to Dunn and French on my Walkman as the church was filling up. Hard to believe it's been 40 years since our first date. I don't have an actual date photo, but era-wise it feels like this one is close enough.
  3. I'll speculate it is the same reason he didn't pursue any of the other opportunities he had for a bigger payday as a P5 coordinator - He wanted to watch is kids play football, something he couldn't do if he were a P5 coordinator anywhere but Pitt. He wanted to be close to his parents in the Pittsburgh area, who are getting up there in years He wanted to be a HC again He had good memories of Akron from the Brookhart era, and believed in Akron's potential. Unfortunately the wild spending of the Proenza era, and accompanying campus growth and improvements have disappeared. And Mike Thomas is no longer the supportive AD. We now have budget cuts and an Arby's A. I like Joe, and I'm rooting hard for him. But 2-wins per year for three seasons ain't gonna cut it.
  4. Historically, he definitely throws too many INT's.
  5. He personally out scored his old team 12-10 on Saturday.
  6. Damn…our streak of not hitting a kick from 50 or beyond rolls on.😡
  7. Adler out? That’s unexpected.
  8. Maybe they don’t have an available scholarship?
  9. Sports talk yutzes have made 40+ year careers discussing why XYZ team's backup QB should be playing, and why the incumbent coach should be fired. It's been going on here since maybe 2018? Man, I grow weary of it. I'm sure I'm not alone. If the Zips could win a few games and steer our conversations towards the other stuff (what transpired on the field, recruiting, how we match up against the next week's opponent, etc.), I'd be a happy man.
  10. It would be so cool if the Zips beat OU on Saturday, and this thread dropped like a Kent quarterback.
  11. BobcatAttack.com Game Thread
  12. Buffalo is weak, and they beat NIU. It's the MAC. We should beat Kent, and pick up at least another 2 or 3 along the way.
  13. I blame the schedule. We're no where near the class of mid-level P5 teams right now. Those are guaranteed losses...that's why those teams pay us crazy sums of money to pound us. If we'd have played Marshall, Liberty, UAB, etc. we'd have been way more competitive, and way less banged up as we roll into Athens on Saturday. How has BGSU seemingly leapfrogged us, when we ran them off the field only a couple years ago? How has EMU begun fielding watchable teams after decades of wallowing in the lower-MAC abyss? Those are the questions I'd like to see answered if we finish 2024 with only 2 or 3 wins. There is obviously a method to being competitive in the MAC even if you recently sucked. And it isn't just the head coach, it is the entire organization. The AD get's no free pass because we were bad before he arrived, or the stadium and practice facilities are too nice. I want to see this Zips team against MAC competition. I still like our defense, and I know if Finley isn't getting snowed under he's a good QB. I HOPE our OL fares better against competition more within their weight class. I HOPE Joe calls a more diverse, aggressive offensive game when he actually has a chance to win, and isn't just hoping to survive. We'll see...
  14. Not Finley’s best night.
  15. Who knew the QB would run in that situation?
  16. Not regretting skipping the road trip.
  17. Over pursuing too. This QB isn’t much of a thrower. If we can just keep him in front of us, we should be able to make some stops.
  18. Lauper-Topper?
  19. You know a really cool side benefit to the advent of NIL? - We'll never have to worry about the cost of adding names to our Wall of Fame. From here-on-out, any decent player will bolt the Zips in a heartbeat for some P5 cash. The days of watching a Dwight Smith, Jason Taylor, Charlie Frye etc. for more than a year or two are officially over. Yippee. Next up - Based upon the success of the 2-minute time out, I foresee instituting the "6-minute breather"...a 5 minute "catch your breath" break at the 6:00 point of each quarter. We'll be able to listen to 15 consecutive, "Akron Bearings" and "Electrifying your Future" commercials, 4 times per game. Double Yippee.
  20. When will it end? Everything just gets slimier, greedier and more money-driven. Just when you think the party has reached an all time low, someone excavates a new basement. It's like a really aggressive cancer... Would Clarke pay the extra $6 talent fee for his Zips GA basketball season ticket?
  21. The football team has zero NIL money. No grad assistants. No travel recruiting budget. And after this week they will have played games against Ohio State, Rutgers and South Carolina to pay their bills (in addition to selling a home game against Kentucky for $800,000). They aren't siphoning money away from soccer. I want to date Scarlett Johansson. Ambition and reality are sometimes a mismatch. Guthrie fired a bb coach at Wisconsin GB who was 92-80. His hand-picked replacement went 15-61. What P5 school would trust him with a hire? He did design a great "A" though. Selling like hotcakes.
  22. Zips fans aren’t meant to have nice things.
  23. I met the women's coach at a Zips golf outing in June. I'd hire her to do anything. She seems like a great leader. I asked her a few questions that were interesting to me, but maybe not to her, and she gave me very well-thought-out, detailed answers. I asked her why the women's team hadn't been able to ride the coattails of the men's program and she basically said they are two completely different, mutually exclusive entities. I asked how she recruits, and she said the best tool she has is the School of Nursing. The women on the team are all very academically oriented and the top notch nursing program at UA is a big asset. Very impressive, focused woman. I would expect her to do some outstanding things in her career.
  24. I think I've been too critical of Guthrie's "A". Colgate's logo is WAY worse.
