Went the Games 1 and 2 today. Marion Local is a beast, and Hillsdale basically laid down for them. It was 60-0 at the half. 60 to zero. Game #2 was great. Loved Bishop Watterson’s defense. The pulled out a 19-14 win after being down 7-0 at the half.

It’s my hope that Anderson is a mature OL who’s outgrown FCS competition, and wants to challenge himself. He’s not going to be on any P5 programs radar. No one from a program that finished 4th in the SWAC East is. Give me a grad student with 2 years eligibility like Anderson from the portal every time. Great fit for a MAC program like Akron.

U of A signage at every NE Ohio football stadium on Friday nights would have been way cheaper, and way more effective at reaching HS kids. Giving 1.3 million to the Browns, as you’re slashing the University budget. Only in Akron. At least we’re consistent.

My concern is - do the budget-cutting bean counters realize this? Or do they just see the disparity in wins/losses as Joe has worked to pull the Zips out of the deepest abyss any D1 program has ever seen? Joe returned to Akron for a lot of reasons that had nothing to do with football glamour and money, and more to do with running a D1 program, while being there for his family. That remains valid. If we’d just treat the guy right I think we could hold on to him for a while longer. Giving him his training table back so his offensive linemen can be an athletic 325 pounds instead of a skinny 285 pounds would be a great start. There are few Joe Moorhead’s looking to coach Akron, and a ton of Arths and Ianellos. For once, could we not blow it?

I can't say I'm excited, but Northern Kentucky is a good mid-major program and worth a 25 minute Tuesday night drive down Route 8. Their record this year isn't so great, but you never know what you're gonna get when you schedule a year or two in advance. Few mid-majors are like the Zips, and a guaranteed winner year-in-year-out. If it were Otterbein I'd stay home.

From what I understand the Zips are going to 105 scholarships and splitting into a Blue and a Gold team. The intent is to double the revenue from P4 OOC games and pay off the stadium debt. Week #1 is - Akron Gold vs. Penn State ($1.9 million) Akron Blue vs. Florida ($1.78 million) Week 2 is a west coast trip. USC and Oregon are the rumored opponents. $4.1 million in total revenue. More details to follow. Dr. J is also in negotiations with Kent to loan players in the event too many Zips get injured in the first couple weeks. Lots of outside the box thinking going on from the interim AD.

Miami uses a "U". It's iconic. BG uses a logo that incorporates their Falcon. OU incorporates their Bobcat. Do the Akron Rubber Ducks use an "A"? The Zips use Arby's, and a Crayola. But Fordham was mesmerized by it, so who am I to say?

Anyone know if you can use unused 2024 game tickets for other home games? I will need another ticket for tonight and didn't use my October EMU tickets. I know they used to offer something like this with season tickets, but until now I never really had a use for it.

In this day and age there is no continuity. Pretty much every season is a rebuild. An A-10 program is a daunting first head coaching gig. It isn’t Faust to Notre Dame, but it’s close. Hope he rights the ship. He’s only 5 games in.

Alabama State beats Lamar tonight 77-75. At home, the Zips should beat ASU tomorrow. No excuses.

To ensure good attendance at both games I think they need to play the Zips game at 4pm, then at halftime play the first half of the second game. After halftime, finish game #1. Then finish game #2. For non-Akron games the UA cheerleaders and band need to split up and support the other teams evenly. Ater the games are over, hold a ceremony to hang a golden microphone for Steve French in the rafters. I’d stick around for that.

Guthrie loyalists made a statement tonight. Fans boycotted the game #2. Workers boycotted the concessions. If he were still on campus, things would be different.

How will dropping a level in football do anything but ruin our other sports? If we’re out of the MAC, good luck to Groce recruiting any talent whatsoever to his Horizon League program. Dropping to FCS = Youngstown State = Cleveland State Is that what you want for Akron?

You knew when the referee’s made Gray change his headband before the game because it was non regulation that there would be a ton of fouls called.

I saw Indian School got pounded by a named program a week or so ago (can’t remember who). It was 48-4 when it came across the ticker.

There was no chance of it ever happening. The MWC tossed out a hook with no bait and hoped they might get lucky and snag a bluegill. Didn't work.
