  1. If they played South Carolina, Ohio State and Rutgers to begin the season, and dealt with all the budget cut related issues we have I doubt they would have 6…5…or 4 wins. They are maybe 1/10 of a notch better than Akron, but with a table much better set for success.
  2. In order to keep Finley next season I’ve heard they’re going to make him player-coach, at half of Joe’s salary. A shrewd, outside-the-box way to circumvent the lack of NIL funds by Guthrie.
  3. I will add that it is uncanny how our defense folds after an offensive blunder. We fumble, the opponent scores a quick TD. Interception…turns into a quick opponent TD. Shanked punt…quick opponent TD. One minute left in the half…plenty of time for an opponent to drive the length of the field and get a TD. Our D is a strength in the flow of a game. But it ain’t been so hot when they’ve been called upon to pick the team up after a mistake or close out a half.
  4. The Emoni Bates era is just about to take off in CLE as well.
  5. A friend of mine is a financial planner. He submitted a 30 day notice to leave for another job (customary notice in his industry). He was due a bonus at the end of his term. The employer told him he was free to leave immediately. He said "Ok. I still get my bonus, right?" The employer said "no." So my friend decided he was going to stay the entire 30 days. His new employer wasn't expecting him to start for a month anyhow. The old employer subsequently stuck him in a warehouse with a card table for 30 days. My friend dutifully sat at his card table in the warehouse for 30 days, and ultimately got his bonus. I feel Guthrie is treating Moorhead is a similar manner. If/when Moorhead departs, be very scared of the next coach Guthrie hires. It has a very good chance of being much, much worse. The uneducated person with say "How can it be worse...Joe's only winning 2 games per year?" Trust me, it can.
  6. 60 is ancient. Especially for a guy that, until this season, was out of college football for 15 years. Why not bring back Oscar Rodriguez? He seemed like a nice guy?
  7. No chance. The guy is 60 now. Happy to have him as a WR coach, but the ship has sailed on him being a D1 HC.
  8. UA Alumni are holding a "Renew Your Wedding Vows" Ceremony in Lot #10 prior as part of their Homecoming festivities on Saturday. They offered a first come first served 8 spots beginning around 11:00 am for alumni couples (5 minutes per couple). So the wife and I are taking a 30 minute break from normal tailgating to do it. Should be fun. Interesting note - the Zips got beat by BGSU on our wedding day 31 years ago. I recall it was 35-0 at he half. I was listening to Dunn and French on my Walkman as the church was filling up. Hard to believe it's been 40 years since our first date. I don't have an actual date photo, but era-wise it feels like this one is close enough.
  9. I'll speculate it is the same reason he didn't pursue any of the other opportunities he had for a bigger payday as a P5 coordinator - He wanted to watch is kids play football, something he couldn't do if he were a P5 coordinator anywhere but Pitt. He wanted to be close to his parents in the Pittsburgh area, who are getting up there in years He wanted to be a HC again He had good memories of Akron from the Brookhart era, and believed in Akron's potential. Unfortunately the wild spending of the Proenza era, and accompanying campus growth and improvements have disappeared. And Mike Thomas is no longer the supportive AD. We now have budget cuts and an Arby's A. I like Joe, and I'm rooting hard for him. But 2-wins per year for three seasons ain't gonna cut it.
  10. Historically, he definitely throws too many INT's.
  11. He personally out scored his old team 12-10 on Saturday.
  12. Damn…our streak of not hitting a kick from 50 or beyond rolls on.😡
  13. Adler out? That’s unexpected.
  14. Maybe they don’t have an available scholarship?
  15. Sports talk yutzes have made 40+ year careers discussing why XYZ team's backup QB should be playing, and why the incumbent coach should be fired. It's been going on here since maybe 2018? Man, I grow weary of it. I'm sure I'm not alone. If the Zips could win a few games and steer our conversations towards the other stuff (what transpired on the field, recruiting, how we match up against the next week's opponent, etc.), I'd be a happy man.
  16. It would be so cool if the Zips beat OU on Saturday, and this thread dropped like a Kent quarterback.
  17. BobcatAttack.com Game Thread
  18. Buffalo is weak, and they beat NIU. It's the MAC. We should beat Kent, and pick up at least another 2 or 3 along the way.
  19. I blame the schedule. We're no where near the class of mid-level P5 teams right now. Those are guaranteed losses...that's why those teams pay us crazy sums of money to pound us. If we'd have played Marshall, Liberty, UAB, etc. we'd have been way more competitive, and way less banged up as we roll into Athens on Saturday. How has BGSU seemingly leapfrogged us, when we ran them off the field only a couple years ago? How has EMU begun fielding watchable teams after decades of wallowing in the lower-MAC abyss? Those are the questions I'd like to see answered if we finish 2024 with only 2 or 3 wins. There is obviously a method to being competitive in the MAC even if you recently sucked. And it isn't just the head coach, it is the entire organization. The AD get's no free pass because we were bad before he arrived, or the stadium and practice facilities are too nice. I want to see this Zips team against MAC competition. I still like our defense, and I know if Finley isn't getting snowed under he's a good QB. I HOPE our OL fares better against competition more within their weight class. I HOPE Joe calls a more diverse, aggressive offensive game when he actually has a chance to win, and isn't just hoping to survive. We'll see...
  20. Not Finley’s best night.
  21. Who knew the QB would run in that situation?
  22. Not regretting skipping the road trip.
  23. Over pursuing too. This QB isn’t much of a thrower. If we can just keep him in front of us, we should be able to make some stops.
