  1. If WVa wants to compete in the MAC, they need to toss the conference a couple home-home football and basketball games per year. The MAC doesn't need WVa. WVa would need the MAC.
  2. FIU probably used Joe Bosak too.
  3. Joe Akron Thread
  4. 7-5 got 15k people to drive to Detroit for the Motor City Bowl.
  5. “Until it gets serious, I just have to coach my team and play within the facility we have,” he said. “I don’t think they’re at the serious level of doing something.” That's all I need to know.
  6. Likewise respectfully, the post wasn't about parking, but about decisions made by someone ignorant to the status of the program. Wistersil saw new stadium, new coach...he saw how Minnesotans ate up their new facility and sold it out...and he thought "the cupboard was full" in Akron...he could charge Big10 price$ for Zips football. Then, in came the cream pie. Everyone in Akron saw the pie coming but him. This has all been hashed and re-hashed before. I'll drop it. Real hope is now residing in Akron. It's time for excitement. Go Zips!
  7. Wistercil rolled into town a few years ago, guns-a-blazin', ignorant of the Zips football history, and thought he'd generate a ton of money by charging $5,000 per parking space to those fans desiring the coveted Lot 9. Instead, he spent a lot of time wiping whip cream pie remnants off his face. No one appreciates the energy NZF has brought to the football board more than me, and no one is more excited than me to have Terry Bowden as Zips Football Coach (except NZF), but if you saw the looks on the faces of the handful of Zips fans exiting our final game of 2011...it was like a Death Camp in the parking lot. Vacant stares...player's parents in tears...bad stuff. I think it is important to make sure the new regime is aware of the history. And what they're up against in righting the ship. Otherwise, it plays-out like the pep rally in Fast Times at Ridgemeont High.
  8. Those who do not learn history are condemned to repeat it.
  9. 105,000 flock to Columbus to see OSU play Youngstown State. It's never helped the Zips cause.
  10. I thought there was nothing more worthless than a tweet? I stand corrected.
  11. I am happy with 2011-12 Zeke. My expectations are to keep doing what he's doing. And we'll keep winning. And winning. He blocks a ton of shots, and alters even more. He's money at the free throw line. And his rebounding and offense were clutch @ WMU. If he was on a lesser team, he'd post better numbers. But his game wouldn't be any better.
  12. Joe Akron loves $1.00, or free tickets. If that's the "marketing" plan, then we'd have a chance to sell out UCF. Two or three sellouts? Only if we rope-off the entire upper-sections, and reduce capacity to 10k. AND use the same creative attendance practices we used to draw the world's smallest 14k/game last season.
  13. Wouldn't it be funny if Zipmeister turned out to be George Wallace?
  14. I preferred Rosanne...or Carl Lewis' renditions.
  15. If anyone ever wondered what the polar opposite of a Terry Pluto story is...look no further.
  16. Michael Jackson had great footwork. But he couldn't dribble worth a damn.
  17. Local newspaper article on his signing
  18. Sorry to hear he's having breakfast with Wistercil, but it's cool that he'll be meeting with Bowden. Funny conversation from several years ago, when Mike Thomas was AD: AD: "Hi Jason. We noticed you've never really donated to UA before. Would you like to become a little more involved with your alma mater?" JT: "Sure. No one's ever asked me before." Unreal that he was an all pro for several seasons before anyone from UA contacted him. Great to see Bowden reaching out.
  19. You should check out Steve Czaban on Sirius 94/XM 208. I just found he's back on the air/satellite this morning. Something good to listen to when Stern is a re-run.
  20. Very thorough column from a Tulsa newspaper on the at-large chances of ORU, and a history of recent at-larges and near-misses.
  21. Maybe...but to the NIT.
  22. Are his chances of making a shot from 2 feet away any better than 21 feet away? If we can get a 2-for-1 deal, maybe KD should give Ms. Delice Coffey a call and arrange a joint session with Nik & Nitro?
  23. The Zips are in WMU's heads. Haven't we won something like 10-of-11 vs. them? They choked it away at the end, and Zeke and Q carried us. It's nice to have confident players on the floor when the other team is fielding chokers who don't know how to close a game out.
  24. Didn't we make up a 5-point deficit, and subsequently win the game during that exact span? Offensively, those guys were atrocious. But they are seniors who know how to win these types of games. And they play hard D. Of bigger concern is Harney, who is defensively a big liability. He was slightly better this game than EMU...at least he put his hands up a couple times to block the passing lanes. But for the most part his arms are at his sides, he avoids contact and gets beat off the dribble. As nasty and aggressive as Tree has become, Harney has gone the opposite way. He's gotta step it up.
