Did you see Diggs, McClanahan and Abreu finish out? Did you see the shots? Seriously? No points for the final 4 minutes? We choked. Period. I Speak Truth...and it sometimes hurts.
-
He's wrong.
-
Free throws my butt...the Zips panicked, and choked it away. The bandwagon saw a few drop off tonight. Too bad. Big choke job by the Zips. They had a nice lead, yet they played like they were the ones down 5. No points in the final 4 minutes? Terrible shot selection. Pretty much makes the Duquesne game a "must-win." Hope to see a sense of urgency in that game. It's a long season...blah blah blah...it was a choke. Period. We all saw it. Hope we learn from it.
-
What a complete scam - Absolutely suck at your job...get fired after 2 seasons...and take $1million from UA over the next 3 seasons to NOT coach the team. I'm in the wrong business.
-
Few? I'd be happy with one. After last week, I'd settle for a touchdown. Or the week prior. The soccer team continues to match the football team in scoring. Yippee.

Few? I'd be happy with one.

McFadden is still here, and Getsy is gone, so I consider him "post-Getsy."
-
What I took from this article is that Dambrot can recruit better quarterbacks then Ianello... True. Who can argue that McFadden and McAdams are the two best post-Getsy QB's we've seen on the UA campus?
-
Lots of people follow Lebron on Twitter. If he's talking-up the Zips, it's a good thing. Love him, hate him, question why he donates little if any money to the Zips Program... all that stuff is irrelevant to the main point. When the most notable pro basketball in the world is tweeting about the Zips - it is a good thing. Period.

Zipnation has lost a GREAT MAN & FRIEND..
Captain Kangaroo replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Profoundly sad news. Great man. Absolute fixture at the JAR for several years. Thanks for everything, Phil. Your family's presence on the UA campus made it an immeasurably better place. -
If the guys can play, you take them in a heartbeat. If they are injured, you don't touch them with a 10-ft scholarship. We don't need anymore 5-star Andrew Johnson's...Marcus Sanders'... etc. cluttering both our roster & IR list simultaneously.
-
And Detroit will likely be tougher than either of them...
-
Beat Cleveland State, and get a lot of great exposure on Cleveland news (Sidebar - Does anyone even watch the local news anymore?). Lose to CSU...we'll still get Cleveland news exposure...it just won't be the fun type. HUGE game for the Zips and NE Ohio!
-
And OU is no slouch either. Fun to see late-90's/early 2000's basketball return to the MAC. Early-season results can always be deceiving...but it looks like the MAC could have it's first legit claim to be a multi-bid NCAA Tourney conference in roughly a decade?

A good friend of mine, and former regular poster in ZN.o, has not posted in over a year because he can't stand your constant negative posts. 100% truth. They don't bug me, but they do others. Just an FYI. I'm glad my post from last year's CSU game made an impact on you. I can't remember it, so I appreciate the recall. See you on December 11th.

Keeping tabs on the Zips non-conference opponents
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
So you want to discuss why Rio Grande is on CSU's schedule, on ZipsNation? Please don't. -
Last year is last year. How did Joe Paterno look last year? How about Jim Tressel? Last year doesn't mean too much. Rosters are entirely different. Is Steve McNees identical to Brian Walsh? Roberts the same as Gilliam? Bardo for Harney a 1-for-1 swap? If we were tethered to 2011, why even play the 2011-12 season? Just cut-n-paste 2010-12 and start talking about 2013 recruiting? The Zips and CSU are both MUCH better than last year. K.e.n.t. too. The Zips and CSU began their seasons with HUGE wins, not BCS losses. We drew 3,700+ for Hiram. People are on the bandwagon. Akron-CSU will be epic, as long as both teams hold up their end of the bargain and don't lay a couple eggs between now and December 10th. Bookmark this link, and bring it back on December 11th. Well see who's correct.

Keeping tabs on the Zips non-conference opponents
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
People here don't really care about CSU, so you won't find any discussion regarding their schedule here. -
The heyday of the heavyweight division was the era of Ali, Frazier and Foreman. Possibly throw in Ken Norton too. The heyday of NE Ohio college hoops is here*. The Zips, Flashers and Vikings are all ridiculously talented. The Vikings and Zips have great coaches that will be around for the long-haul. And regardless of what coach K.e.n.t. plugs in, the guy wins 20+ games. If you want to whine about lack of coverage for any of the above programs...wait a couple weeks. Without the NBA in town, there will be one premiere basketball game held in NE Ohio in November - CSU @ K.e.n.t on November 22nd. And one in December - Zips @ Vikings on December 10th @ 2pm. Get your tickets now. Both will be HUGE. There will be plenty of media coverage. "The Thrilla Near Nemisila," anyone? * The Mackey-Huggins "era" was more of a shooting star than an "era." Memo to "46-year-old-+-guy": Please refrain from opining for those couple games in the mid-80's. They were great, but the Waters/Dambrot match up has the legs to truly be an "era." Both coaches aren't going anywhere for a decade.
-
This is becoming a problem now with Coach I. Owens' teams were in a position to gamble with something at stake. Losing 35-3? Any Ianello gambles are typically penny-ante by comparison.

Diggs Named East Divison Player of the Week
Captain Kangaroo replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Have you seen Griggs play on our d-line? There goes your theory... -
Zips get a real vote in the regular season? First time ever?!
-
If Dr. P can't figure it out by looking at the stands on Saturday afternoons, my little rant won't help. BTW - Dr.P is a regular on ZipsNation.

Wistercill and Ianello are a combo-package. If one goes, the other goes. Wistercill is a remora on the belly of Caleb Porter and Keith Dambrot. He inherited two great coaches, and TW looks really nice smiling in their respective championship photos...but he had nothing to do with their hiring or success. Wistercill was hired to: 1.) Fill a brand new football stadium, and hire a football coach that can win games 2.) Don't screw up soccer and basketball Wistercill sabotaged Brookhart's final season, holding weekly interrogations trying to get the guy to resign over some BS secondary-level recruiting violation. If Brookhart resigned, UA would save $250k in salary. UA didn't save the $250k, but he did get rid of JD after a 3-9 season. And you know what...I don't care about how the JD firing was handled. Sausage tastes great, but you never want to see how it's made. Ditto running an Athletic Department. But we didn't get a decent coach out of the deal. We aren't better program as a result. We are worse-off than after Faust, Owens or Brookhart. Way worse. The $70million dollar stadium sits empty. Gerry Faust and Lee Owens won games at UA with crap facilities. With a budget that was far below "shoestring." Brookhart won a championship. When he lost, he was usually competitive. He beat Syracuse and NC State. Ianello is horrible. His team is reaching depths that no other UA coach has seen in decades, if ever. He's been whipped back-to-back by annually woeful K.e.n.t., who fired their coach only 11 months ago. Ianello's game-day bungling has become legendary. I'd never left a Zips football game early, until Saturday. With 15 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, I'd seen enough. To my surprise, I saw familiar face after familiar face in the parking lot. Decade+ season ticket holders by the dozens, heading back to their vehicles before the 4th quarter began. Surreal... Wistercill made his own call with Ianello. He put all his money on black...and the ball dropped on beet-red. But instead of his money on the table, it was all our money. That sucks. The inertim AD needs to fire Wistercill first, so he doesn't have to fire his friend Rob. That's the classy thing to do. Then it all begins again. If you want Hunter Yurachek's cell, just PM me.
