  1. Good summary.
  2. Winters' group posted some very respectable offensive numbers on many D1, BCS teams during his time under Owens. It was always the defense that prevented the Zips from pulling off the big upsets. That, and my one big gripe about Winters/Owens offenses -- they often disappeared in the last 2 minutes of tight games. I have no concern with Winters' ability to compete with D1 programs. Especially the MAC schools. At Wayne State, he appears to have become a better coach. He has built a solid defense. He's winning tight games. Hopefully within the next several weeks we'll learn if he's got the job.
  3. Who was the only one to mention Narduzzi in the Wheel of Fortune thread?
  4. http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?sh...mp;#entry152128 GoZips aways posts stuff like that. If you took it to heart, shame on you.
  5. As long as no one is trying to sell me that this exhaustive delay is due to being thorough, and admits Winters was the guy all along and UA just had to wait until the D-2 playoffs were complete, I'm ok with it.
  6. A 440V line dropping into my bathtub would shock me less than Paul Winters NOT being named the next Zips head coach. Do we really need to wait until December 19th for the ceremony (as speculated by footballscoop.com)? I think this will go down as the most lengthy delay between identifying a new head coach, and announcing a new head coach, in the history of college athletics.
  7. Bizzare post. Of course, I'm the one you reference with the prediction of a great 10k+ crowd for the game. Conveniently left out of this was my reference that the Zips needed to hold up their end of the bargain by playing well. CSU came into the game at 10-1. The Zips limped into the game hot off a series of embarrassing beat-downs. And player suspensions. The Zips had their chance to make this a sexy, marketable, marquee 10k crowd match up. It should have been a battle of two teams with a combined 3 losses. Instead, the Zips came into the game having put on 18 lbs after Thanksgiving, no make-up and stained sweat pants. Beyond that - there is no way that Abreu's injury is a blessing. It is absolutely crippling. Deji is no where near ready to play point guard at the Division 1 level. Diggs is not a point guard. His talents ebb between negated, and wasted when he's forced to play the point. Without Abreu, we are in big trouble.
  8. Will a clergy member be involved? Will anything need to be notarized? I say they all prick their fingers and make a Blood Pact.
  9. Wow...I'm in the Top 0.1%? Sweet.
  10. Hope Cventinovic wakes up from his walking coma, or the Zips will get thoroughly embarassed on the court. Which would add to the embarrassing string of off-the-court embarrassments. Which is getting old.
  11. Bad, if you are Ole Miss. Good if you are PN7.
  12. If we were hiring Neuheisel, I'd agree with you. I look at Johnson's complete football resume, and it is pretty impressive.
  13. No way Ole Miss wins any QB battle where Ianello isn't involved. It's like thinking Bryan Hipsher would start at any basketball program where his dad wasn't the head coach. Either Nicely is the QB in 2012, and we run the spread. Or some new JUCO is our QB.
  14. He's been involved with professional football for over 20 years. It would be the biggest gift in the history of Zips athletics if he chose to return to Akron to coach Zips football. I don't see an NFL coach having any difficulty convincing high school kids to play for him. Or convincing blue chippers that, if they follow his lead, he can give them the shot at the NFL that all D1 kids think they have. A former professional quarterback and coach, coaching against the peanut-brained small-timers of the MAC? It is a slam-dunk. Take Mike Johnson asap. Mondo props to Gerry Faust for getting Johnson to even consider being our HC.
  15. I'm inclined to agree with you, Dave. In fact, I think I already did FYI - I deleted Dave's post today where he reminisced about Hipsher.
  16. Wow, that was some extensive search, good thing they brought Tressel and everybody else in. How long does it take to type in z-i-p-s-n-a-t-i-o-n-.-o-r-g? End of search. No wonder he has time to answer emails. The right hire is the right hire. Props to TW. As Lee Corso would say: "No so f@*king fast, my friend." Props for what? I will save my props, if any, for the hire. And I also will want to be certain he actually had something to do with the hire. I have a feeling Proenza is only letting him do YouTube Videos (granted, his specialty) and answer fan email. And cut paper snowflakes with round-tip scissors.
  17. UMass and Memphis coming to the MAC in hoops? Take another toke...
  18. Enough with bashing of KD's player decisions. Whomever said "The KD Haters will come out" was absolutely right. Memo to the ZipsNation Sarcastically Impaired (hereafter abbreviated to ZSI) - There is an element of sarcasm above.
  19. Thursday December 8th is your day to pick who you think will be the next UA Head Football Coach. I am giving everyone a free Paul Winters selection. Thus every ZipsNation member can say "I told you so!" if Winters is hired. Please enter your pick within this thread. No further explanations are necessary. I pick: Narduzzi
  20. Historically...because The University of Akron has no clue how to run a successful D1-A football program.
  21. We have Ole Miss. We don't need a QB.
  22. BTW - Thanks to you I can't get this f-ing song out of my head today!
  23. The post-game interview of that Buffalo game was the best radio of all time. It went something like: "#&%# #&%# Ball....#&%# #&%# Bosley....#&%# #&%# Andrick.....#&%# #&%# referees!!!"
