You think YOU had it rough last night....
Captain Kangaroo replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Football
Even getting drunk is a process around here... -
Can you ever envision the Zips eating more than 1 year of a HC contract? If they could make a great hire...a real head-turner...they would easily make up the $350k/yr in Ianello's salary. But no one typically looks deeper than "We're going to pay a guy $350k/yr NOT to coach the Zips? Forget it."The empty stadium and horrific team performance is dragging down the entire University. And I have no faith that Wistercil knows how to fix it. None whatsoever.

we also had a "full cupboard" 2 years ago....I will correct your spelling.Fool Cupboard. -
We are "Mid-1990's K.e.n.t. Bad." Bottom-feeder extraordinaire.Even when Owens took-over Faust's remnants, you could see progress as time rolled on. I see nothing with Ianello. Just horrific, abysmal football.I'm seriously thinking about skipping renewal of my tickets next season. I may travel a bit next fall and check out some games at K.entucky, Pitt, WVA, Maryland and elsewhere. I want to see good football. And a real college game day environment. If Wistercil doesn't want to provide it, he leaves me no choice.Taking your kid to see the Zips get waxed week-after-week sucks. Your kid wears the face paint...jersey, etc. And by mid-2nd quarter of every game, his team is down 3+ scores. Year after year. With no end in sight. You can only take so much...

I've seen PN7 win games against D-1A teams. I've seem Moore lose every one he's started.I want a chance to win against K.e.n.t. PN7 is our best chance. The hyperbolic clowns on this site will spin that statement to infer I think Nicely is the second coming of Luke Getsy. But, that's why said people are hyperbolic clowns.Start PN7 against K.e.n.t. And if he wins, Buffalo too (he's beaten both teams in the past). Give me a shot at seeing a win in 2011. Not a 4th quarter field goal to close the gap to -32.
-
Because Fleming and Suel tanked it. Who said this team doesn't quit?Nice field goal on 4th and 2 by RI. 35-3 is awesome. Why he didn't make it 35-6 at game's end will forever baffle me. We had it in the bag! Please, sarcartically impaired clowns, stop typing now.Thanks.

+1-72Nicely has beaten K.e.n.t. Moore has beaten...no D-1A team. He was 3-18 tonight. He's played 1 decent 1/2 of football the entire season. He needs to see the bench.
-
My bad. I thought we were farther out than that on that one. I still stand by the fact that everything up to the final play is hindsight and that going for the win was a better choice than OT. Rock on, Don Quixote.
-
2-18. We can't change anything fast enough, as far as I'm concerned.Look at our offensive numbers pre, and post "pro set" offense. It is an unreal difference.
-
Anyone want to buy 3,000 "Pankey Hankies"?Damn, that's what I get for buying early...
-
I hope it is a 1st quarter 2nd and 5 call, and not one on the final play of the game.
-
I'm glad everything is cleared up. It takes a special player-parent to participate on a message board like ours. I can only count a handful that have really embraced the site in all the years we'd run it. You've been here even prior to Zeke's commitment, and that's really cool. Thank you.

GOOD GRIEF. Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
Captain Kangaroo replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
“I had a bunch of players, which I appreciate, after the game come right up to me and say they liked the call, good call,” said IanelloIf this is true, this is the best thing that has come out of it. I wish a W come out of it though.Wow...I'd have thought the players would have told their Coach he was a moron? Who knew? (emoticon inserted for the sarcastically-impaired)Click here to understand why players like going for the 2-point conversion, and why a Coach shouldn't listen to them. -
My problem with that is that it is an option play. It should not be. You want to know why? Because you could lose a winnable game by one point. Exhibit AI agree. Down 20-6, 3rd quarter, how is going for two even remotely under consideration? Who's responsible for that option even being in the playbook? Who?I'm guessing the CMU coach studied tape on the Zips, and suckered us into the botched attempt.
-
I have two guesses as to the offending party.Let me guess...someone PM'd you?People are stupid. My apologies from the Moderators for whomever was an idiot. We do what we can.
-
"Aggressive" by your definition. "Stupid" my mine. And DIG is wrong. He sells the intelligence of our members short. No one would have complained if Ianello went for OT, because it was the right call. If you make the right call, and it doesn't work out, that's sports...that's life...whatever. People can accept it. I dream of the day I can leave InfoCision after a well-played and well-coached game. I have a dream...

We outscored them 22-3 to close-out the game. CMU was reeling. CMU is a bunch of chokers. Our defense was playing great. Our offense was rolling. Yet Ianello decided to put all our money on red. There are several reasons why you could justify going for two in that situation (stated in another post, and I don't feel like repeating them), and none of them applied.Stanford tied the game against USC Saturday night on the last play of regulation. Why didn't they go for 2? Because they know what they're doing. We needed a win so f-ing bad on Saturday. Ianello must be getting tired of seeing those ESPN clips of Brookhart pulling out meaningful (Marshall & NIU) come-back wins on the InfoCision Jumbotron ever week, while he's getting waxed for the 15th, 16th, 17th 18th, etc time. He had his chance to get one of his own clips to play on the big screen, and he blew it with his stupid extra point gambles. You reap what you sow.

I called the ticket office to find out if my season tickets had been mailed. The staff told me that the tickets arrived late last week. They are not mailing the tickets before the exhibition game. If you want the tickets before the John Carrolll game, you can go to the tickets office at Infocision Stadium during regular hours this week. The staff said they will have all of the season tickets packages at the John Carroll game. The ticket office will mail any remaining ticket pachages not picked up at the JC game. John Carroll tickets are included in the season ticket price.Thanks. Very helpful. I'm an hour away so I'll pick up on game day.I wonder why the Ticket Office wouldn't send out an e-mail to season ticket holders so we understand the status. It's been a while, but I would think they'd have our e-mails or, if not, should ask for it for these reasons. The University often struggles to appreciate what it's like to be a fan/customer.

I believe Bardo and McNees graduated before their Senior seasons? Graduation doesn't always mean your eligibility has expired. -

You gotta explain how the probability of losing in OT was better than 43%. I need to see that one. -
The Halloween Hoops event on Saturday was very nice. Coupled with the football game, it made for a long day on campus, but I appreciate the work everyone put into it. A nice kid-first event. KD and Kest were both accessible and it was nice to have a few words with both of them.

Do you have an opinion on Green Eggs and Ham?
-
Not true. ..... So you're telling me you honestly believe that most of the critics on this forum would have praised Ianello for going for a tie if the Zips had lost in OT, and most would not have criticized him for not going for the 2-point conversion?I will tell you with 100% certainty -- NO ONE would have complained if he took that game to OT. NO ONE.My son is 10 years old. He knew better. Everyone did.And I will tell you that in all of the years I've been following football, I have NEVER seen a situation where a coach played for a tie and lost in overtime that some fans didn't criticize him for not going for the 2-point conversion. You cannot seriously be trying to tell me that would not have happened on this forum about this coach.Ok. I concede. Akron Football would have bitched. But that's it.
