It was interesting to see another mid-major crap down their leg and experience an epic drought against high-major competition. Hey...Butler held UConn to 53 points. I give 'em a little credit for that one.

Youngstown St. Baby! National Champs!

I can tell you we didn't recruit him. So there's really no reason to follow the kid. You might want to try an Akron High School web site. Losers blow games. Winners win them. YSU basketball is a perennial loser. Ricky Johnson Jr. ain't gonna change it. To paraphrase the great ZipsWin!, YSU bringing in new basketball recruits each season is pretty much akin to rearranging chairs on the Titanic. My advice -- Cut your basketball program and use the money to move up to D1-A football. -
Youngstown St. Baby! National Champs!

Ummm...probably not. Look at the rafters of Beeghley Center. There isn't one men's basketball-related banner of any sort. I'm glad Penguin Guy is high from sniffing the coat-tails of a Bulldog, but let's be real...Youngstown couldn''t produce a decent basketball player, or team, if given a billion pounds of oily penguin food for a billion years. Please post more links to a team that would need to win 10 more games to get a CBI bid. -
Finally...Moore Information on the QB Situation

Brian Wagner had a major impact on all games last year. The '69 Mets have nothing on The Amazing Zach. -
Man, I've had easier times reading racer's posts.

His salary is fine. Whatever UA pays him is roughly 1/3 what a school like Dayton can afford. There will always be someone out there that will pay him more money, regardless of his salary. Whether he stays or goes is totally up to KD. Does KD see Dayton as "the old man's last chance to cash in?" Does KD see Dayton as the old man's last realistic shot at making a career-defining, deep NCAA tourney run? Does KD see Dayton as as, worst case, $5,000,000 dollars in his pocket after 5 seasons (a la Waters @ Rutgers). Or, is KD happy being the King of Akron, winning 20 games, returning to UA for the next 2 seasons with Zeke making some local hoops history? Are his local roots enough to turn down a $700,000 raise? His 401k might be doing great, but it ain't gonna appreciate by $3.5 million over the next 5 years, like his salary would if he moved only 3 1/2 hours away to SW Ohio. All I know is -- I haven't heard KD publicly deny interest in the job. I won't rest easy until I hear KD deny interest. Or I hear Zach the Zip state "KD accepted the Dayton job." Either would mean KD's staying at UA.

You are utterly amazing... "I'd like to buy you for what you know, and sell you for what you think you know." Look at Kentucky's present Head Coach. Look at his track record. Do you think winning trumps everything in college athletics? No D1 school is going to overlook a great coach because he's friends with one of the world's greatest basketball players. Shockingly, most Universities think it might be a unique recruiting advantage? The CMU stuff is WAY old. In the world of college athletics, it's been expunged. No one cares about anything but his wins and losses now. And at Dayton, they might care that he graduates his kids too. Amazing...

No Zips information again....guess it's time to start talking about Tressel's latest scandal.

This one will stick in my mind, however it turns out, I will remember this quote: ''I think Akron is a sleeping giant. You have got to give them two or three more years. The way they can coach and recruit, this is going to be a juggernaut.'' This quote -- "Akron is a sleeping giant," is officially 25 years old...my, how time flies! It was first uttered by Gerry Faust upon his UA hiring, and printed in Sports Illustrated. Years ago I went to an off-campus house party, and I can recall seeing that SI clipping Scotch-taped to a cupboard door in the kitchen. Rip Van Vinkle had set the previous "Gold Standard" for naps @ 20 years. UA football has set the New Gold Standard...25 years and still counting! -

Luke Fickell -Tressel Replacement For First 5 Games
Captain Kangaroo replied to wadscarman's topic in Akron Zips Football
Did Tressel try to pimp him here to Akron? Yes. And I believe we made a mistake not accepting his generous bribe. On top of having a better coach, we could have had a nice donation to help pay off the stadium. A good coach fills the stadium. That pays the bills. -
Wow...he's going to be a 20+ year old Freshman?! To your P.S. - I hope so!

Noticed his name wasn't on the Rice roster? Wonder if he's regretting anything now-a-days?

PN7 had a great game against Buffalo. He threw some nice balls into the teeth of a pretty strong wind, and for perhaps the only time during the 2010 season, the balls weren't dropped. If PN7 can pull it together in his Jr. season, I'm all for it. If Moore is better, I'm all for it. Quoting the immortal Derrick Tarver - "I just wanna win." I'm still waiting to see who's going to be at WR.

Reminds me of a story... Mrs. Hipsher used to sit in the lower reserved seats, directly below us. I'm kidding you not when I say Bryan Hipsher had an 0-29 streak going on 3-pointers. Starting at about 0-10, my buddy would "BOOO" him after every miss. This continued for many games, until... As luck would have it, a loose ball rolled towards the corner, near the band. Falling out of bounds, Bryan grabbed the ball and heaved it towards the hoop. *Swish*, nuthin' but net! Mrs. Hipsher turned up towards our section and let loose with a screaming, arms-flailing, finger-pointing, contorted, " I TOLD YOU SO" eruption like I've never witnessed in my life. Such a release of pent-up rage I thought she was going to have a stroke. 1 for 30, and running smack. God bless her.

Days Since Tressel's Last Caught Lying
Captain Kangaroo replied to GP1's topic in Akron Zips Football
I know too...it means that Zips fans know nothing about this upcoming team. Seriously...did anyone learn anything from the last 77 second Ianello video? 77 seconds of generalities is all I have to talk about regarding Zips football. I could have written Ianello's sonnet. "We had a really spirited practice...guys were flying to the ball...the practice facility is really nice, but we hope to get outdoors...hope to see you at the Tap House." WTF is THAT? Zips fans are unfortunately WAY more informed about the lying, weasel Jim Tressel. Thus they spend time discussing his situation more than the Zips spring. Is Moore a legit competition to Nicely? Beats the hell out of me...I haven't seen Moore, and I have no idea how he's doing. No one from UA has anything to say about him. Is B. Alexander fully recovered from his knee injury? Beats the hell out of me...I have no idea how he's doing. How's the transfer DL from Michigan State looking...I'm expecting him to dominate this fall...is he tossing our incumbent OL's around like rag dolls? Is he out of shape? Beats the hell out of me...I have no idea how he's doing. Zips Athletics has absolutely no clue what it's like to be a fan of the Program. The awesome information packet of 77 second Ianello videos and a Spring roster .pdf makes me want to replay old Zips soccer and basketball games on my DVR. It doesn't get pumped, or informed about football. Tressel's a weasel. -
Also, the fact that they do not have to spend money on a football program is a big help. Imagine, for a moment, if we didn't have a football team. Imagine the money that could be allocated to all of the other sports. Imagine if we had a really good football program. Imagine if we drew 25k every Saturday in the fall. Imagine the excitement that would be instilled in the community and campus. The argument that football drags down the MAC/Zips Basketball is absolutely W-R-O-N-G. BAD football drags down the MAC, and Zips Basketball. Basketball Guy needs to hold UA Athletics accountable for it's bad/atrocious football. Not simply point a finger at football in general. If football isn't winning, and InfoCision isn't packed, someone needs to be held accountable, and something needs to change. UA football is an albatross that is holding UA down. And with the new stadium, and awesome new coaching staff (Tom's choice), the Era of Excuses is over. Under the correct leadership, UA Football could be a gem. For UA to reach it's full athletic potential, it MUST be a gem.
