Please get the freaking job and move on. This is a big distraction from what should be a very exciting time for those who care about UA athletics. If our AD wants to leave at this time, just go. Give me Hunter. Give me someone who wants to be here. I don't care. Why does UA have to be his steady paycheck while he shops his self around?Couldn't really disagree more.Go Zips!Care to elaborate?I don't buy into the Company Line of -- "We should be lucky we have an AD that is such an attractive candidate..." -- How else is the University supposed to spin it?Or "Gee whiz how can you begrudge a guy that is trying to improve his lot in life..." -- I don't begrudge him, and that is not the point.I know Mack as well as anyone on this board. I wish him nothing but the best. He has always been very gracious to me. Summary -- He apparently doesn't want to be here. I hope he gets the Houston job. I look forward focusing on the 2009 - 10 Zips athletics' season and building a good relationship with whomever succeeds him.

Hey Gamechanger...was Zeke walking past the stadium while I was checking out the "stadium cam" at lunch today? Must have been?! -
Seems like an amazing athlete. Can't wait to see him play!

The MAC does it all the time. It must be smart.

What's the most important issue that needs to be fixed?
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Stats are for losers. Our offense shot 84% during the flow of a game, but in crunch time shot 45%. They showed just as much as the offense. How many goal line stops did they have vs. Cincinnati? At least two. They held a BCS bowl team to 17 points! Temple was a very good team last season when Dimechele was at QB. The Zips D made a bunch of big plays in that game, until the inevitable late-game turnover avalanche roared down the hill. Again, stats are for losers. MAC programs, 1 - 10, have a very small degree of separation. They all get the same level of player. The teams that win have a Dante Love and Nate Davis. A Drew Willy. A Leftwich or Rothlisberger. Guys that can close-out a close game if you put the ball in their hands. When the Zips offense had the chance, in close games in 2008, to close the deal, they fumbled, bumbled, penaltied and INT'd their way to a loss. The only stat that matters is 5-7. And the offense was just as much at fault as the defense for that 42% winning percentage. -
Could the be any worse than Minnesota...Indiana...Northwestern...

Do Jacquemain's fumbles count, or only INT's? His 4th quarter fumble that gave EMU the ball on the Zips 11 yard line was a killer. Jacquemain's 4th quarter interception that gave BG the ball at the 6 yard line was a killer and a HUGE momentum-changer. He dumps it out of bounds and BG is getting a punt at their 15 yard line, not our 6. Didn't Poindexter plow into the BG punter when Andre Jones would have fielded a punt at the BG45? Was that a big play? Was it the defenses fault? The defense gives up 17 points to a team that made a BCS bowl and you're complaining? I don't get that at all.Going off memory...with about 1:30 remaining and needing only a field goal to win...Jacquemain had an intentional grounding penalty, then followed it up with ...*shocker* an INT. He needed to take the Zips about 35 yards in 1:30 for the win. Neither could Buffalo, and they were the MAC champs. Also - The Akron D didn't fumble the ball in the 4th OT (notice a trend on late game turnovers yet?). Agreed. Terrible defensive game by the Zips. The Zips defense held Temple to 6 points well into the 4th quarter! Jacquemain threw two 4th quarter (note - trend continues) INTs that resulted in 18 and 28 yard Temple scoring drives. The Zips offense had FIVE turnovers against Ball State. Jacquemain's roll out where he coughed the ball up to the BSU cornerback...who ran it back 33 yards for a TD...was that the defense's fault? Did I mention FIVE turnovers? The Zips offense has just as much work to do in 2009 as the defense. Without Dennis Kennedy, maybe more. Jacquemain is the freethrow shooter that shoots 84% for the season, but 45% in the 4th quarter. People point to the overall stats and say "He's a great free throw shooter...84%!" Baloney. -

There is not a huge degree of separation in the MAC, positions 1 - 10. If you want to win, you need playmakers. Games are always going to be close, and the team that makes the most late-game offensive mistakes typically loses. Our offense made things very easy on opposing defenses during crunch time last year. The QB has the ball in his hands on virtually every offensive play. If your QB is a playmaker, you'll win in today's MAC. You'll win it in the 4th quarter. Jacquemain was "Captain Almost" in 2008. If he hasn't improved...if he still gets the 4th quarter jitters...our defense won't matter in '09.And for the record - I was at the Wisconsin game."PJ Hill off left tackle for 9 yards.""PJ Hill up the middle for 12 yards.""PJ Hill sweep right for 14 yards." Etc.Our 2008 defense had some big time issues. But the offensive ineptitude put them in a lot of bad positions too. -

You thought MAC refs were bad before?
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I swear Zips fans whine about basketball refs more than any other fans in the nation. If we had better refs in 2008-9, our overall record would have been no different. Would some of the games have been more watchable? Yes. But the record would be the same. The MAC needs to tell their refs one thing: "Fans are here to watch a basketball game. They aren't here to see a free throw shooting contest. Ease up on the mid-court hand checking fouls guys. Let the players play a little."Done. I've solved the MAC ref issue. Darryl Roberts' scoring will suffer...but that's about it. -

I don't disagree with anything you said, I just want to add to it. We need good players making big plays WHEN THE GAME IS ON THE LINE. We have good players that make good plays. I've been saying it for years, we need a winning attitude. It is now up to the PLAYERS to win some games.Tight game with Cincinnati...game on the line...defense plays well...4th quarter INT.Tight game with BG...game on the line...defense plays well...4th quarter INT.The score is 6-6 @ Temple in the 4th quarter...defense plays great...multiple INTs in the 4th and we lose 23-6.Tight game against Buffalo...defense was adequate (43 points in a quadruple OT)...fumble.Did the defense play great all season? No. OU is a great example of some atrocious D.Did the offense lose every game for us? No...they made the plays that beat K.e.n.t. late. But -- If you want to pin the crappy 2008 solely on the defense, you are mistaken. The offense had numerous opportunities to win games...and more often than not...get ready BirdZip...they "crapped down their leg."If we continue to fumble and toss around INT's in the 4th quarter this season it won't matter if Ryan Bain gets 20 sacks. We'll still lose. -
I believe they're placing the fiberglass covers on the seats and removing the bathroom stall doors this week! Can painting the urinals be far behind?!

"Pick Your Seats Day" - May 2009
Captain Kangaroo replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
You're picking late because you're an Ohio State fan. UA pushed back the seat selection date of all OSU fans. Buckzip's selection is set for July 19th, 2012 from what I understand. And his parking pass is for the Rubber Bowl. -
Future non-conference schedules?
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
That sentence sent a chill down my spine. Seriously. Lol... don't do that, man! It's true though. Maybe not quite to the level of EMU basketball, but you can't expect the community to come out year after year and fill up the Info to watch 3-9, 4-8, 5-7 teams. People support winners. The newness of the stadium will add a certain amount of fans this year, but you have to have a good product on the field to keep them coming back. If the product on the field sucks, in a couple of years we will be right back to the general apathy that Akron historically has had for Zips football.Akron has the best training facility in the MAC...it is not even close. Akron will have the best stadium in the MAC. Hands down.If any coaching staff has a losing record in the freaking MAC...in the MAC EAST...their tenure will be short-lived. You don't invest the money UA has towards football if you don't intend to dominate year-in-year-out. Any season with less than 7 wins should be considered a HUGE disappointment.3-9...4-8...those records are a thing of the past. -
