To be honest...I could care less about it. But is smacks of elitism. It should be all or nothing.Back in the day, I'd sneak a couple beers in my jacket if I really wanted to enjoy a beer at a Zips game. GP1 is correct...sneak in a flask or your brand-of-choice airplane bottles if you don't think your pregame tailgate was sufficient. It is cheap, you get to drink what you want, you don't need to wait in lines, and most importantly - it is the American Way.

I don't think even Dennis Helsel could screw up 2009 home football attendance.

Big 33 Web SiteThis game is always fun to watch, and I'm sure Nicely will get quite a few snaps.

I would have used a "Tier System" -Tier 1: 5th and 6th Suite Levels - These people are really rich. And it is a know fact that affluent people can handle alcohol much better than anyone else. Additionally, they spend more money when they're drunk, and our needs to fill a stadium and generate income outweigh any safety concerns. These guys get premium alcohol...nothing but single-malt scotch and 90+ rated wines. No beer...beer is beneath their palette. And it affects the brain too slowly.Tier 2: 3rd and 4th Suite Levels - These folks still have potential to move up to Tier 1, thus we need to treat them well. However, they are slightly more reckless with alcohol due to their Tier 2 seating. They get blended scotch, and wines rated 80 - 89. Beer will be sold. Great Lakes products, Bell's Brewing and Sam Adams.Tier 3: 1st and 2nd Suite Levels - Now we need to be careful. These louts are one step away from being outside, with the *shudder* proletariat. They get well drinks, boxed wine and faux microbrews like Leinenkugels and JW Dundees. Tier 4: Outdoor reserved - Look at the parking lot where these guys set up their tailgate party and you'll see a lot of yellow "party plates," that's for certain. These handle their liquor like a K.e.n.t. State kicker handles a clutch field goal. But...at least they aren't *shudder* *shudder* General Admission! Give these miscreants warm, flat Bud Light. Charge $7.00 for a 16-oz cup. And make certain the top 2-3 inches is foam.Tier 5: General Admission - These destitute, ignorant, dangerous walking time bombs are going to sneak their own beer and flasks into the stadium anyhow, so screw them. They get nothing. And, they will be forced to wear Wrist Bands of Shame, putting their inability to responsibly handle alcohol on display for all to see. Something like that would have made more sense.

Also from Today's PD."This did not go unnoticed by the search committee headed by an Atlanta search firm. Houston faculty rep Richard Scamell, who was also on the search committee, said in a release that he was impressed that while Akron only graduates 35 percent of its students overall, Zips athletics was "close to 70 percent" for its graduation rate under Rhoades."Ok...Mack was here for 3 1/2 years. The typical student-athlete takes 5 years to graduate...maybe 6? How can a 70% graduation rate be attributed to a guy that was here 3 1/2 years? I don't think Richard Scamell was a math major.

Safe to say Mack likely doubled his salary. -
They have to put the windows and facade on prior to putting the stands up. Our concerns are aligned.I know I'll feel far better when the rest of the upper deck on the press tower side starts to go in. I know they say they're on time. But, I don't have a warm and fuzzy seeing that gap and we're three months away from the 1st game and less then three months away from 08/22 the day they're supposed turn a finished stadium less the classrooms on floors 2 through 4 over to UofA.I agree on the glass work. I lived in Chicago for 11 years prior to moving to Georgia. I watched them build 50 story plus buildings in the loop far wider then the Press tower. I saw them install far more glass work in far less time then they been working on the couple of press tower floors. I saw them do four sides of buildings and cover five to ten floors in matter of weeks compared to what it seems like has been months working on three floors of the press tower. I believe they are on-schedule because I don't see a ton of weekend construction activity. It that an accurate gauge?

Looks to me like they were going for the easy Longhorn fan conversion. "Now our hand gesture is just like the hook'em; but not as big of a rip off of the surfer dude"Is that a prerequisite for a Texas collegiate program, you have to have a hand gesture?Yes. George W Bush mandated it as Texas Governor several years ago. -

If, as ZipGrad01 and you infer, Zips fans are jealous of Ohio State, then you are 100% correct.

That is a good discussion topic for the next several days. I give him more credit than tangential involvement. The stadium is beautiful, on schedule and funding is going as well as can be expected in this economy. That said, it irks me that some people like to give Mack 100% credit for the stadium. It is untrue. Mike Thomas hire. Not Mack. That said -- Dambrot is still here, and appears happy. Essentially a Waddell hire from when Mike was Interim AD. Yes Mack signed the contract. But the search and candidates were already underway when Mack was packing cardboard boxes @ UTEP. Waddell-haters and Mack-lovers will throw a hissy fit and stomp their feet when they see this...but it is fact. Hyperbole and agendas, however obnoxious and personal they may be, don't trump facts. Time to evaluate the "Mack Era." What positives and negatives occurred under his watch. What did he change for the better. What would have changed for the better regardless of the AD? Did he simply walk into a sweet situation, table already set, and parlay it into a huge career advancement...did he reach untold heights in his 3 1/2 years @ UA all on his own? Or, was it somewhere in the middle? -

Amazing. Maybe he can set up a home and home. :blink:With the "we don't want to be Akron" quip, I'd settle for a game with UH anywhere in any sport. Of course, soccer would be a nice place to start I don't care about Houston. They can keep their home-home booby prize, if such an offer was on the table. It made sense with Thomas & Cincinnati because UC is both in-state and BCS. Houston is a 2,000 miles away, and non-BCS. Not very sexy as far as UA opponents go. -

You're welcome, Elton! -
Heard from a fairly reliable source that Mack is Houston's choice. Champagne corks-a-poppin' at ZipWatcher's house tonight!Looking forward to our AD search! Note - This is not official...but I'd be surprised if I am wrong.

He will get his shot at QB. Guys with his skill-set typically do great in the MAC, and I know the staff is very high on him. If it turns out he's not the #1 QB, it appears his athleticism will afford him the opportunity to see the field at another position. Nick Sparks was a great QB, but switched to WR because he was behind Frye. Jabari Arthur was behind Luke Getsey and switched to WR. Jeff Sweitzer returned punts for two seasons before taking over for Marcel Weems at QB. Jon Eaton was a HS QB who played Safety for the Zips. Who knows what will ultimately happen? But if he really is like Edelmann...I want him under center!

If the drinking age were lowered to a reasonable age, "underage drinking" would no longer be an issue.

"...or if he really does have the potential to blossom into a major program talent."He's coming to UA, so he must feel he's a major program talent? Otherwise, he'd be like his teammate and choose K.e.n.t. -

Thanks to ZipsWin for forwarding the seating chart.UA is sticking blue push pins where people have reserved seats. Gold ones are reserved for companies (the entire 206 section is for Summa). You can click to enlarge. Hope you get the seat you're looking for! A ton of good options remain. This chart was valid as of 10am this morning.

I like the selection a lot. It will be nice to have a veteran presence in the locker room. A former D1 HC.I remember an article on Peters from maybe 8 years ago. He bemoaned the physical impossibility of fielding a decent basketball team @ YSU. He basically said their talent pool was either guys not good enough for the MAC (table scraps from Akron or K.e.n.t.), or guys who couldn't cut it academically. YSU has moved into a better conference since then, but their situation isn't much better.Youngstown is football country too. When's the last decent basketball player...upper tier D1...to come out of the Youngstown area? Greg Jones (West Virginia) back in 1981?

Look out Jamarcus Russell!!

The both green shades are much darker/deeper in real life than in the photos.

It is official - 8 teams in Cleveland. I love it. Driving to downtown Cleveland 4-out-of-5 days is just too much. Thursday/Friday/Saturday is great.Additionally - The upper seeds should be at home in front of a decent crowd. And the #12 seed should not get the benefit of a neutral court. The MAC does something right?!

I selected my seats last night. The only thing that concerns me is the lack of a physical receipt. I hope they provide confirmation in the mail soon after the selection is complete. If you are picking today or tomorrow, there are plenty of great seats remaining. There's no chance you'll get shut out of your preferred area.
