  1. Boogie departing is disappointing. He wasn't a star, but he was a solid MAC player. And the Zips need all the upperclassmen they can get. I get the historical argument that coaches could leave a program whenever they pleased, but players had to sit a year whenever they transferred. I also get that a student athlete has 5 years to play, and then the ride it over. So a senior who sticks with the Zips probably looks at 2021 and says..."I wanna win, and I don't see that happening in Akron in 2021, so I'm outta here." But... But is it good for college athletics to have student athletes transferring whenever they please? Are those transferring going to find a landing spot, or will many of them become ordinary Joe's, paying their own way if they want to attend college? It seems like a big mess. It's no fun being a 20 year old college student right now. And it can't be any fun being a college coach in 2021 either.
  2. Has Otis Mounds sold his house in Akron yet?
  3. Big Dog was 6-16 on FT's. I think he missed his last 6 or 8? It was criminal that we lost that game. Should have beat OSU by 15.
  4. For those of you who shelled out the big. bucks for a CBS subscription, you can check out KD and old friends TDMartin and Mike Hughes right now as Duquesne takes on Davidson.
  5. You are correct. Sorry about that. He was injured in camp. And I haven't even started drinking today...
  6. I believe that was Jonah Morris in game #1 two years ago, after a personal foul call?
  7. So he’s working his way through the FBS programs alphabetically?
  8. Maybe Ashley Bastock can win the hearts of ZipsNation and ask the coach?
  9. I wouldn't sell him short on his 3-point shooting. I think he'll have some memorable long-range days this season, as long as COVID doesn't curtail things. X was a comparatively better rebounder for sure, but he's also a couple inches taller.
  10. Uh oh...MULTIPLE Zips may get post game interviews!
  11. Too bad Joe Dunn wants to talk to LCJ after the game. I want to hear how Trimble turned it on.
  12. Listed at 6’ 3” 250lb out of high school.
  13. I think the one word that stood out to me in the whole article was "stale." That's what the playoff has become.
  14. Travis had some 20 rebound games. I think Wood did too (Jeremiah, not Brian).
  15. On the Zips’ “Mount Rushmore” of recent quality QB’s, he certainly deserves a spot.
  16. Who were our best QB's of the past 20 years? Butchie...Frye...Getsy...I'll throw Woodson in there, and maybe 1-hit wonder Dalton Williams too. Whomever reminds me of one of those guys is who I want as the Zips QB in 2021. We can win some games with him. Add in a serviceable defense, and we can start competing for championships. Our QB play as of late reminds me more of Clayton Moore, Nicely, Chapman, Ramart, Kelley etc. That won't get us out of the MAC basement. My money is on Kato to start the 2021 season. He'll be healthy, and have a veteran presence that we sorely lacked in this bizarre Covid-shortened season. I also assume he'll have a short leash due to the competition, and the sense of urgency to start winning football games. Another 1-win campaign means Zips football starts all over again for the umpteenth time. ?
  17. I hear we had to give them 100% of the gate to make it happen.
  18. It will be a shame if Covid robs LCJ of having his jersey in the rafters. Had he lead us to a MAC tourney championship, and a win...maybe two in the NCAA's, this follow-up season could have put him up there next to Jakubik. With no 2020 tourney exposure and a shortened 2020-21 season, he will likely not get sufficient chance/numbers to shine.
  19. Yet another reason to hate Kent...
  20. It's almost like..."stars" are completely subjective and don't matter?? In all seriousness...nice positional breakdown of the class by @bigjim. Thanks for taking the time to assemble it.
  21. Maybe they wanted to make sure we got an Akron/Kent game in, in case the Governor shut down sports in the spring?
  22. I had low expectations coming into this game, and leave it feeling pretty good. Dailey will need to get on track quickly, but he has a nice stroke, so I think he will. That will take some of the scoring burden off LCJ. Dawson looks much more confident, and with a much-improved 3-point shot. Same with Ali. Freeman is a revelation. What a blessing to have a walk-on big (height, not width) that's impactful. Especially when we're missing a couple bigs. Trimble looked out-of-sorts. I'll hope he's just shaking off some rust. Lots of new faces, and a tough opponent. Groce will figure it out. His teams always get better as the year progresses.
  23. You were right. He has a high motor, height and soft hands. Once he puts on a couple pounds he'll be a serious force.
  24. I agree. Tough to beat a team that's both talented, and works hard.
  25. Freeman is the most capable walk-on I've seen for the Zips. Fearless Forecast ® - He'll be on scholarship next year.
