Game 31- PCCC- Friday at 6:30
Captain Kangaroo replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
The JAR was rocking from the get-go on Tuesday night. The best mid-week energy I've felt in that place in a long, long time. Tonight is going to be an absolute blast. Can't wait for tip-off! -

Nice to see the Zips scoreboard acknowledging the 2019 Dean’s List honorees. Congrats to Utomi and Ivey for their inclusion! -

For those considering staying at home and watching the game on TV, I have one question for you - "What's in your wallet?" -
2019-2020 Zips. Impressions
Captain Kangaroo replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I would like to see X drive the lane more often. At six foot eight, in the MAC, he can do some damage in the paint. And if fouled, he hits hit ft’s at a solid clip. Settling for long 3’s is selling himself short. Once a few bunnies fall, maybe the hoop starts looking a little bigger from 21 feet. -

Sounds like he played for my UA intramural team? ? -
Offer = walk on offer? Or, scholarship offer?

2021 Recruit - Luke Brown (PG)
Captain Kangaroo replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
His highlight film is pretty much like watching the Pleasantville basketball team. Who wouldn’t like his range and quick release. His shot seems pretty fundamentally sound. NBA 3-point range. Can he defend at a high level? How’s his foot speed? Ball handling? Those would be the questions I still have. Groce’s teams place a high priority on defense. Is his any good? -
If you can get past the ugly style of play, EMU was playing some good basketball in February. We were lucky to win, but I can't say we laid an egg in that one. I'd give EMU some credit. Tulane's at the bottom of the AAC, but that is a tough basketball conference. Wichita State is 20-7, and sitting in 6th place. It was a nice win for the Zips. I thought Liberty was just a really good team that kicked our butt. Sort of like the Toledo game (one of the rare occasions where Toledo played to their potential).

The Zips have not played a bad game all season. I find that to be an amazing fact. They've had some dry spells here and there, but they've yet to flat-out not show up. If you look around the MAC, or college basketball in general, that's pretty rare. The Zips are a seasoned team, with 4 players capable of going for 20+ on a given night. And the Zips bench is making an incrementally more impactful presence with each and every game. BG is a strong, athletic team. At home, with some motivation to avenge their earlier loss to the Zips, they should prevail in a tight one. Two wildcards that could sway the outcome? 1.) Has the Dylan Frye episode messed with the Falcon's chemistry? If so, it favors the Zips. 2.) How is X's help defense? When X is fully engaged on the defensive side of the ball, the Zips are at their best. If he helps Reese and Riak defend at the rim, and nabs double-digit boards, that would be enough to give the Zips the season sweep. Tuesday night will be fun!

Game 27- Miami- Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Captain Kangaroo replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Predictions for today - • Zips win by 13 • The t-shirt cannon’s shirts will all unfurl after traveling roughly 15 feet, and land softly in rows 2-5 of the Blue Hair section • All 32 Taylor Made Jewelry basketballs land in the Blue Hair section....none make it to the unwashed masses above. • Only the ugly people in the east stands will be shown in the Kiss Cam. The good-looking ones in the west stands will pucker up for nothing. • No one on the big screen during the Kiss Cam bit will realize it. • My BAC will be 0.1 lower than if the game were held at 7pm. The referees should be grateful. -

Top 10 Men's Players Ever @ Akron?

15 years later...Loren Christian-Jackson has to be a Top 10 selection. Maybe Top 5? An argument for Tyler Cheese's inclusion could certainly be made. Just thought this one was fun to resurrect. ? -

I was really hoping for a Saturday night, 7 pm game. Disappointed to see it moved to 4pm. Pre-gaming at The Score or elsewhere isn't nearly as fun at 2:30 pm as it is at 5:30 pm. -

Once again, clueless announcers. -
To balance things out, do you bring in potentially the two worst D-1 football programs in the nation in UMass and UConn? I'd expect the MAC to be happy with its present membership. There's no need to add conference boat anchors. And there's no way UConn allows their hoops team to go on the road and play in MAC arenas as compensation us accommodating their football program.

Student Attendance & Marketing
Captain Kangaroo replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think the YSU game Marketing theme should be "Rubber Bowl Revisited!" We haven't played YSU since the early 90's at the Bowl. The venue was well know those in Mahoning County. Get $10 tickets using the promo Code "Rubber Bowl". I think painting the grass area in the Info endzone to match the old Rubber Bowl cement lettering would look cool. Players wear the Moving A helmets. Let people tailgate in the grass inside the Jackson Field track. Lots of fun stuff you could do with the idea. I predict Joe Akron would show if it were done right. Paul Penguin too.? -
Losers of three of their last 5, the 17-win Dukes should have no problem reaching 19 wins, with upcoming games against conference dregs Fordham and GW. They played well against Dayton (4-point loss), and old friend Tavain Dunn-Martin poured in 25 in a loss to St Bonaventure. They certainly have Saint Louis' number.
