One insult: "Akron is a lot like Morgantown, W. Va." Jupitertoo got this right. It's an insult to those rabid, football-crazy fans from Morgantown! You can't get a ticket to a Mountaineer game and we can't even give tickets to people to get them to come to one of ours. I see why the good people of Morgantown were offended by that statement. Props to Coach Bowden for trying to portray us in a positive light.

Very nice article. I never saw him play in high school, but he was a beast while he was a Zip! Stellar linebacker and a tackling machine. I always think about him flying around as a freshman special teams ace! Congrats, Jay Rohr!

Not sure why any of you care or why this piece of garbage traitor is a topic on Zipsnation. Let him take his talents and his camps to Miami or Vegas or anyplace he desires. The farther away the better as far as I am concerned.

You have the longest winning streak in the nation!!

A little help, please. I think a grey shirt pays for his first year with the promise of a scholarship in the second year. So, what is a preferred walk on? What is the difference between a walk on and a preferred walk on? Does a preferred walk on come to campus with any promises?

This kid is right here in our own back yard. Any word? 38. Anthony Gotto Tallmadge QB, Sr., 6-0, 210 Dual-threat standout is coming off a stellar season, with 2,397 yards passing and 16 touchdowns and 404 yards rushing with four touchdowns.

2012 Miami RB hoping to land at Akron
liljc replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I really like the looks of this guy. Nice moves in traffic and a nose for the end zone. If they add some bulk to his frame, could he be as good as Brett Biggs was? My fingers are crossed! -
That's right! Congrats to both Zips on their multiple Super Bowl rings!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am more shocked by this hire than I was by Bowden's hiring. to the administration for actually doing what they said they were going to do!
-
Underwhelming? Really? The guy who most Zips fans have been screaming for since Ianello was hired is underwhelming?
-
Are you positive it was a grin or was he simply laughing at you? Exactly!

I love it when our guys get some national recognition! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/?xid=cnnnav

This is not a knee jerk reaction: Ianello should resign or be fired
liljc replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
No. Wrong answer. Not yet, waaay to soon for threads like this. It has been embarrassing and horrible to watch so far, but replacing the guy 2 games would be, well, a knee jerk reaction. -
This is a silly thread. As hard as the first two games were to watch, the answer is not to fire the coach 2 games into his first season. A poll asking if Ianello will be here after the end of the '12 season would be much more appropriate.

Wrong, wrong wrong. Wow, I don't feel that excuses are being made for our Qb. I think what was mentioned about Nicely by CK was correctly stated and it was correctly observed. The poor kid was on the run from the time he took the snap on virtually every play. The OL play was horrific. The wideouts were blanketed. These statements are not an excuse for the QB, they are an absolute fact. Nicely had a FAR from perfect night, but his ability to realize that no receiver was open and that the only option was to throw the ball away is a positive NOT a negative. He missed a few throws, he made a few throws, but mostly he threw the ball away and tried to live to see another down. It sucked to watch it all night long, but most of the time it was the way it had to be. The penalties for illegal formation, the dropped balls, the fg attempt that would have gotten us to 11 down, the inability of the receivers to stretch the field and the play calling are all points that drove me to the brink of madness. I am sure there were many other moments that I have mercifully forgotten. There is no place to go but up from here. I hope and pray the Ianello can reach these guys and that his plan comes together. He is not off to a very good start and I imagine we will know the answer sooner rather than later. h

Wow, that was a pretty good breakdown. Glad I took the time to read it.

New 2010 football verbal: Billy Harmon
liljc replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I find it interesting (terrible) that not one person (with the possible exception of timmyboy) has bothered to welcome Billy Harmon, a local kid, into the fold. Is he the next Jason Taylor or Dwight Smith, probably not, but the cynics on here are a little bit hard to take sometimes. Congrats, Billy, welcome to UA, I wish you well. -
Did this kid sign anywhere? I keep finding info saying he signed a LOI with the Zips, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
-
I heard that if JD got fired, then Nicely would transfer. Where? I dunno, just that he would leave. Also, I heard that Glen Mason had inquired about the job. I don't know if UA can afford him, or if they would even be interested. He brings a nationally known name and instant credibility. He's a local guy and a disciplinarian which are great, but would he stay long enough for there to be any benefit? Brian Winters is the other name that I actually heard thrown around, but it didn't seem like he was a real possibility. I think he would do a nice job.Does anyone know if I got good information or was it all just hit air? We will see what happens, I guess. God, I hope they get it right!

I can't be too thrilled about a kid with those 2 offers. Unless we are having an academic challenge team we need to recruit higher level athletes.I guess we should drop the student in student athlete. We've had athletes that were smart and able to contribute within the team concept. I remember a great play by one such football player that saved a big win for the Zips at BG at the goal line. I'm not suggesting this was his only contribution but may have been his biggest. Awesome play! He wasn't the most gifted athlete but stepped up and contributed. Anyone know who this was???? Smart and athletic aren't mutually exclusive.Mark Groza is the answer. Game saving tackle at BG and 3.92 in the classroom and a class act, too!

I dunno about 20, but 23 will get 'em in for sure!

I am utterly amazed at the amount of time this tired subject keeps getting. Let me guess, someone had already started a "JD is gone after this year" thread?

Once a Can't State Thug ALWAYS a Can't State Thug
liljc replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
Shame on the NFL for not reviewing that last play. The whole world watches the Super Bowl and to let it end like that on such an obviously review-worthy play is downright descipable. We all deserve better than that! -
