  1. For anyone who doesn't have cable (like me) and interested, ESPN3.com is featuring Steve Zakuani's Seattle Sounders against the LA Galaxy tonight at 9:30 as the first game of the 2011 MLS season. Also on are NIT games including CSU at 7 and Can't at 11.
  2. I hear you DiG! 40% always go to one side and 40% always go to the other. So, it is the independents who end up deciding elections.
  3. I don't think ND's "home court advantage" will be as big as most expect it to be. South Bend is a tiny town and ND is a national/international school, so it's alumni are scattered throughout the country/world. Sure, there are probably lots in Chicago and some students may travel but this is no way as big for ND as for UA. They have made the Tournament ~ the past four of five years and football is by far more important to them. Also, they will be a small portion of the casual fans and fans from other schools in attendance for other games/sessions. Nationally, there are lots of ND haters too...much like tOSU...very polarizing sports programs. If we are able to make the push for an upset, I think the crowd will favor us. Don't be surprised if most indifferent fans come to our corner. In the early rounds, what makes the Tournament so entertaining is the possibility for upsets.
  4. When are the libertarians in this country finally going to wake up and realize that they are libertarians So to you, someone who doesn't fit the democrat (liberal) / republican (conservative) mold is a libertarian?
  5. From a Fox News Poll Should U.S. Forces Be Used to Create a No-Fly Zone Over Libya? Socially liberal and fiscally conservative here, but I wouldn't trust anything from Fox Noise. If you want to seriously consider balancing the federal budget, start with defense spending! Talk about a waste of money...multiple wars against an ill-defined, ubiquitous enemy that can never truly be defeated while ruining our international credibility...all in the name of redneck patriotism. The War on Terror has always been a battle of common sense and free thinking.
  6. Amen. I am also happy with the match-up and the location. Combined with being in Chicago and the Friday game, there should be lots of UA support. Go Zips! With loses to NIU and EMU, I am not about to complain about the 15 seed either. It was relatively fair IMO. I guess you could say, it is UA fair. Not a Northwestern level screw job that is for sure.
  7. I think Fox Noise should do all of the investigative reporting.
  8. Lunardi currently has us as a 16 seed, but personally I think we could go as high as a 13 or 14. Current 13 seeds according to Lunardi: Princeton, Bucknell, Belmont, Oakland Current 14 seeds according to Lunardi: Long Island, Morehead State, Indiana State, Wofford Current 15 seeds according to Lunardi: St. Peters, UCSB, Northern Colorado, UNC Asheville Current 16 seeds (not play-in games): Boston U, Akron Current Play-in games: Alabama State/Hampton, UALR/Texas San Antonio I believe all four 16 seeds are play ins. Nope. Two play-ins are for 16 seeds. The other two are for a 13 seed I think. I don't know otherwise, but that doesn't make any sense. I personally hate the addition of the play-in games. It should be an even 64 single elimination tournament.
  9. Nice player, but easily replaceable. Who is going to do this next year? It constantly amazes me how negative some of you can be in spite of these players winning one of the most exciting games against our arch rival on national TV and giving us one of the best seasons in program history. One more win and we have THE best season in program history. Why treat some of them like disposable commodities? They are real young men who have worked hard to entertain us and do our alma mater proud. Why not celebrate that with them and thanks them for their hard work and success? If they choose to leave early because better opportunity exists elsewhere, wish them well! They have earned it. Put the bitterness and negativity away for at least a few weeks...there will be plenty of opportunity for that during football season. Yes, I hope the growth of our program results in continually better players being brought in, but that doesn't have to be at the expense of taking away from the accomplishments of current and past players. We have them to thank for the growth of the program. Shame on you, GP1! Please reread my post. I said he was a nice player before saying he was replaceable. Everyone is replaceable...some more easily than others. Are they disposable commodities? Maybe. Some for sure. Didn't we give the boot to some of our commodities after last season? Aren't we better because of it? It's Division I college basketball, not D-III or high school. In a big boys world and inside of coaches rooms, players are talked about in this manner. Sorry if some aren't mature enough to talk about it. It's not a maturity issue at all. My main point is that this is a great day for the Zips and UA. We should be all positive in celebration. I won't debate this anymore though because I know it could go on ad nauseum.

  11. Welcome aboard, and good luck! I hope you play and destroy them too!
  12. For the most part the players can not stand iCoach - so much so that they are willing to forgo scholarships to go somewhere else. As I have been saying all along, education is the most important thing for these kids and being miserable participating in Akron football will not help their mental attitude in the classroom. I heard Shrock may be going to D2 Ashland. What has to happen for everyone to realize that these kids are not responding to iCoaches methods??? iCoach is a recruiter though. He needs lots and lots of time. We will see. (Rolls eyes.)
  13. I hope someone got a good picture of that and will post here.
  14. McNeese three at the buzzer to win??????? I was thinking the same thing in the last couple minutes.
  15. I hope we are playing east of the Mississippi this time. What is a realistic match up? Who would we match up well with? I like our chances against a west team that is unfamiliar and has to travel east. Such a team would be Washington. I wouldn't mind playing a midlevel Big Ten, Big East, or ACC team either. Hey, Ohio beat Georgetown last year. There is no reason we can't if our shooters are on and we play a disciplined game. Go Zips!
  16. +1. Zeke and his ability to stay out of foul trouble was the difference in the game. Great game, big guy! McNeese, McKnight, and Roberts also had solid games. McClanahan was quiet but not detrimental. It was truly a team effort. Great, entertaining game in general. Why didn't we call a timeout with 6 seconds left in regulation? I felt there were times we tried pushing the tempo too much and created unnecessary turnovers. Those things need cleaned up before our Tournament game. The margin for error will be miniscule.
  17. Game was officiated fair, too many whistles in general though. I had an Akron fan behind me jumping up and down screaming every time Akron got a foul called on them. He made me ashamed to be an Akron fan. If you stuck around for the OU game, and watched OU fans cry about fouls, that's how it looked to the unbiased observer. While I was eating lunch today a BigTen game was on, they went 7 minutes of uninterrupted time up and down the floor, no whistles. That's more fun to watch than tons of stoppage in play. I like watching basketball, not foul shooting and officials calls. This is a pointless argument as we've already established that many on ZN.o are obvious MAC official apologists but I saw the OU game...the officials were terrible there too. They made a few game changing calls that truly affected the outcome of the game. They made about 10 that almost did for us. It's frightening that these guys are repeatedly being chosen for these big games. It was way beyond their "normal bad". If that's not the case, I don't even bring it up. We won the game, let's move on already! MAC refs suck. This is nothing new and nothing that will change. Let's focus on the game and opportunity that are ahead of us.
  18. I hope Zeke is feeling like a Monster. Go get 'em, big guy!
  19. I know. We got absolutely no credit for beating the bottom 4 West teams...especially when we could only beat 2 of them. Hahaha. Yes, actually beating all of those teams certainly wouldn't have hurt. Without those two losses, this season is completely different. I'd give us a nod for the CBI or .com tournaments with 22 wins already. Even though we blew them out, the Milliken game is a blemish on our schedule/record as well. The RPI doesn't even consider it a win and neither do I. As a D-III program, they have different rules and standards by which to operate their program. So, it wasn't a fair fight. I hope to not see any more of these glorified scrimmages on our regular season schedule in the future. Let's get win #20 by beating the Sweaters today. Go Zips. Correct me if I'm wrong, but without those two losses, aren't we the MAC regular season champs right now? Nope. That would have put us at 11-5, and Can't finished 12-4. It would have made the last game of the season at Can't that much more meaningful though. If we had won our last 2 games, Can't would not have finished at 12-4. The earlier comment was winning two games against teams that we should beat at least 8 of 10 times. Not doing that on top of beating the bad guys at their place to close out the season too. Let's be reasonable, we should have beaten EMU and NIU during the regular season. IMO, that separates a good regular season from one of our best during the Dambrot era.
  20. I have been meaning to bring this up before. If the players come out with this woe-is-me approach because they didn't make the NCAA or NIT tournaments, then I'd rather see us not play at all. Nothing worse then paying to host a post-season tournament game and then essentially not showing up. However, if they come out with fire and realize the CBI and .com tournaments are actually winnable and play to their potential, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, it's just embarrassing and a waste of money. Go Zips!
  21. One of the best soccer names ever IMO: #16 Colton Storm. U-17 National Team center midfielder, and he lists Akron as an interest in addition to most of the other top programs.
  22. Diggs had some very positive contributions on the offensive end last game. He just needs to be more disciplined on defense. I've been repeatedly listening to Monster by Skillet on youtube. I'm ready to go!
  23. We won this game because of depth and experience and the Bretts made a lot of big shots. 20 wins and on to WMU. And we close it out with an interview from Allie LaForce. Perfect. Will Can't and OU now lose?
  24. I think GP1 has been spared.
  25. Bardo is done. I don't think we can handle a 3rd OT.
