We are ice cold. What did I say at halftime about a 10 minute scoring drought? Yikes. 5 point game.
-
Nik is out with over 8 minutes left.
-
9 points. I am getting concerned.
-
Uh-oh. Zeke and Nik in foul trouble. Both with 4. Still lots of time left.
-
Wouldn't bet the farm on that one. Miami will make a run. To the bus, perhaps. 36-24. Here we go.

Wouldn't bet the farm on that one. Miami will make a run. +1

I think it is a bit of both. Miami is definitely out of sync and I wouldn't expect that to last throughout the second half. Another one of our 10 minute scoring droughts and Miami is right back in this.
-
I've seen enough MACC clock issues against Miami to last a life time.

n/m just found my answer. is that a no? ESPN3 should have it. BG/WMU is on right now. Nice feed on ESPN3. Zips Zone paying customers aren't worthy, however Agreed. The ESPN3 feed is great. We look good so far too.

I know. We got absolutely no credit for beating the bottom 4 West teams...especially when we could only beat 2 of them. Hahaha. Yes, actually beating all of those teams certainly wouldn't have hurt. Without those two losses, this season is completely different. I'd give us a nod for the CBI or .com tournaments with 22 wins already. Even though we blew them out, the Milliken game is a blemish on our schedule/record as well. The RPI doesn't even consider it a win and neither do I. As a D-III program, they have different rules and standards by which to operate their program. So, it wasn't a fair fight. I hope to not see any more of these glorified scrimmages on our regular season schedule in the future. Let's get win #20 by beating the Sweaters today. Go Zips. Correct me if I'm wrong, but without those two losses, aren't we the MAC regular season champs right now? Nope. That would have put us at 11-5, and Can't finished 12-4. It would have made the last game of the season at Can't that much more meaningful though.

This was a good season, and the improvement is tremendous. Way to go, ladies. Take another step next year.

Wow, we played Can't tough this year too. Would be sweet to knock them off to get into the final. Okay, I know I am getting ahead of myself.
-
I am following on gametracker while working. I am impressed. Win or lose, Coach K has the program moving in the right direction. Who would we get in the next round?
-
Could Coach Porter learn basketball? Maybe we just need to play "dominant" basketball too? That being said, I am satisfied with KD. 4 MACC finals in a row means that even during "rebuilding"years, we are at the top of the conference and competing for a spot in the NCAA's.
-
Some people are never happy. Since the Huggins era, the program hasn't had anything to hang its hat on...until KD turned things around. To me, the 20+ win seasons aren't that remarkable given our especially week out-of-conference schedule and no marque match-ups at home. However, we have gone dancing, played in the CBI and NIT, won an NIT game, and have been in the MACC game 4 years in a row. What is our precedent for judging KD's success? UA standards? As I already said, KD has made this program as good as it has ever been! Huggins didn't even win an NCAA Tournament game in his tenure here. The highest MAC standards? Other than Can't's run in the NCAA Tournament many years ago and a few others in the distant past (Ball State and Miami, I think), what program from the MAC has had sustained national-level success? None. So, let's be realistic here. KD deserves nothing less than our continued support for another 3 years. The grass is not always greener on the other side. We could replace KD thinking we are upgrading only to have the program slide back to MAC-level mediocrity. If we have a good, exciting week in Cleveland and make the final (and maybe even the NCAA Tournament), you will all be back on KD's bandwagon. Look back on my post then and know that I never left the bandwagon.

CSN UA Recruiting Review
UAZipster0305 replied to UAZipster0305's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I didn't see it that way either, GoZips. It said we were going to compete for a national championship in spite of having a rebuilding year. What more could you ask for? -
I agree, the bracket is highly favorable for us. However, we have to take it one game at a time and be prepared to play 40 full minutes of every game. A single (typical) 10 minute scoring drought in any game could have us exiting stage right. First up is an EMU team that has already beat us once. Let's get focused!

http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index_files/Page16406.htm "Perhaps it is foolish to dwell on personnel losses from the previous year when evaluating Akron. Over the past few seasons it simply has not seemed to matter. As one talented group departs another equally talented group arrives." "...with a cupboard that is overflowing with talent, the expectations at Akron heading into the 2011 seasons are no less than once again competing for a national championship."
-
I think in the next year or two you will see Zeke develop by wanting and demanding the ball more on offense analogous to his desire to now play tough D. I don't think you can coach that...it comes with maturity, confidence, and passion. KD could tell Zeke to take those shots knowing that his mind and heart aren't totally in it or KD can get him more comfortable with the offense by just giving him the touches in the low block and letting Zeke decide for himself. I don't think there is a right answer here other than we have to be patient with his development. In any case, I am glad Zeke plays for us.

Not if you lend money in a responsible way. You know, to people who can afford to pay it back. There are plenty of banks who have weathered the financial crisis well. True, that helps tremendously. FirstMerit of Akron is a great example. However, if the economy ever got so bad that people needed tangible cash to feel more secure with their buying power (and not the invisible dollar amounts posted on paper and online) and there was an abrupt, critical withdraw from the reserves, the financial system would completely collapse.

I think you political fans would enjoy watching the documentary 'Inside Job.' It won an Oscar this year. I think it gives a nice overview of what brought about the financial meltdown that put our economy in the situation we are currently in. Haven't seen the movie, but the situation we are in isn't too difficult to figure out. 30 years ago, 8% of the GDP of the USA was financial institutions. Today, it is 42%. The only way to really have a wealthy society is to make things. What do financial institutions make? What value do they bring to society other than getting people to sign on the dotted line and pass along a fee for processing paperwork? How many people out there know there is a tax incentive the US government gives you to move your company to another country? We have met the enemy and we are us. If the unemployment number is going down, what kind of job is replacing it? Let's look. Jobs lost during the recession were wage jobs between $19.05 and $31.40 per hour. These new and exciting jobs everyone is excited about are wages between $9.03 and $12.91. Another step toward the US becoming a Third World country complete. I'm a pretty conservative guy, but there is something really wrong in this country. I could care less about the rich or the poor. The middle, or shrinking middle, is a huge problem moving forward. Banks lend out 10x more money than they have available on reserve. That situation alone is enough to cause catastrophe.
-
I love stuff like this because it makes the rivalry stronger. I wish JT and some of the MLS soccer guys from UA did the same.

Sad that this is what rallies his base. Now he is attacking Natalie Portman. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/...an/#more-149072
