  1. I'm guessing it was supposed to be a pass to Tree followed by a hand off to Q but was ruined by a bad pass followed by Q not running to Tree in the back court. Didn't get a chance to see the first half and a half. What has happened to Q???? Just plain bad the past two games. Hopefully the senior steps it up in the final home games.
  2. Tree was a man child again. Liked what I saw from Big Dog. Jake was on fire. Loved the ball movement against the zone. Can they do that against a tough man to man D remains to be seen. I've been one of Melo's biggest detractors so far so I have to give him credit. Best game in a Zips uniform. Hoping KD can settle in on a rotation sooner rather than later. Liked what I saw out of this starting five for much of the game.
  3. wow what a game! gutsy performance for the Zips. Q played great. The team shot well. Pat played well. Good D and effort. Just need to cut down those turnovers. Go Zips!
  4. I'm asking this in all seriousness. I have not seen the red shirts play. Can any of these guys be a threat as a three point shooter? Read the Gladden was more of a slasher. What about Jackson? I've wrote this a few games ago but if Evans, Reggie, and Jake cannot make outside shots Akron is dead in the water. Need to have some balance. I did like the hustle and grit tonight and Diggs played his butt off! I'd also like to see some more plays run for Pat. Should allow Tree to crash to boards more and free him up for looks in the high post. Pat should have an easier time finishing against MAC big men. KD uses the term bull in a china shop a lot and this is truly the team that lives up to this moniker. Side question.... Was Frenchy complaining about the refs tonight? I only ask that because there were a lot of fouls that the Zips committed tonight. I have to give the Ball St guys credit! They knew a lot about both teams and called a pretty unbiased game. I would kill to have them do the games. I also will pitch in for a better feed! Gonna be a long gut wrenching season. Go Zips
  5. Haven't had a chance to read every post so if this has already been said I'm sorry for the repost. Having watched most of Akron's games this year it is very apparent that if the team isn't scoring it will grossly effect their defense. I can't remember a KD coached team where this has been more true. If the team is going to start playing better they need Evans, Jake, and Reggie to start knocking down three's more consistently. When they are missing shots it allows defenses to sag and completely take out Akron's bigs. While he may not be Akron's best player, Evans may be the most important. He needs to Figure out how to set up an offense fast or this team is in trouble. Jake looks like he's lost some confidence. Can't believe I'm saying this but I'd like to see more Deji. Lots of talk about players "tuning" KD out and I noticed Harney not even paying attention in the 2nd half during a time out. Don't know what he did but he only played 6 min last game. They need more from him. Tree has mentioned he's the leader and the team feeds off his energy. I'm sure this was the case in the last game as he was pouting for much of the game. I don't know what it will take to turn this team around. Seems like someone in the backcourt needs to step up and be the quarterback of the team. Just not sure if that player is on the Zips this year. Looking forward to see how the team responds against Marshall. I agree that will be a good benchmark game for where the team is heading into conference play.
  6. I too stayed up late to watch the game last night. Everyone already mentioned that Tree and Big dog played good. What stood out to me in addition to that was the teams ability to get quality looks inside despite not being able to make a jump shot. This bodes well for the team. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd like to see Q be a little more aggressive with the ball in his hands. Right now he's the guy that can penetrate and kick out to the shooters. Teams will continue to "pack it in" on this team as their front court is so strong. Evans will need to learn the point on the fly much like McNess and AA before him. Both were score first guards that needed to learn the point. I have nothing to base this on (2 games) but think he'll be antiquate come mid season. Carmelo is a lost cause and should only be playing 10mins a game. I would hope this will be his last year with the team as KD needs to use his scholarship on the best pure point he can find for next year. Definitely not ready to hit the panic button. This team was still in the game in the second half when they couldn't throw it in the ocean. They played a top notch opponent on the road with a crazy start time. KD will figure this out. He has the horses to do so.
  7. and Joe Dunn talking about how he likes girls that wear glasses bahahahaha! Oh and Dunn asks Frenchy if he got a championship ring. He replies no, I could get a fake one but what am I gonna do with that??? Then talked about pawning a ring. Classic!
  8. One sliver lining in this all is the emergence of Brown and Evans. Both have looked really good the past two games. Not sure if they take that step if they're not on the field as much as they have been. Add in CJ back in the middle and this linebacker class should keep getting better and better. Just need to develop a d-line class for next year.
  9. @Zigpgrad01 hahha! @LZ fixed it! Should've proof read that before sending. Good catch.
  10. Sorry guys, most of the posters here or either nerds or old guys (just kidding). I am assuming you are all looking to drink and hit on girls. If that is the case just go down to Main St. It's downtown and mins away from where you are staying. Many choices from clubs to bars. The Barley House is probably the most popular. Happy hunting! And good luck Sat. Swing by lot 9 and we'll take good care of you.
  11. ok ok i got the hint haha. beers that i remember drinking: Sweet Water 420, PBR, Bud, Bud Light, Corona, Albita Lager. There were more but the names are escaping me.
  12. Just got back in from FL. A little tired from a great weekend but I'll try to share some quick thoughts for now. The tailgating scene was unlike any I can remember and I've been to plenty of stadiums. The Campus has a multiple ring design making the larger parking decks outside of the general tailgating. The non-student tailgating lots were for passes only making it hard to find people to tailgate with although I did have a beer with Ms. MTB1 who was very nice. As for the tailgating for the students...they have access to the entire campus to tailgate where ever for the most part. They also have a grass area that seemed to be just for the students. They were in full force and were all very nice. They also showed up for the game packing a third of the stadium. Most stayed till the end of the third. I applaud the students at UCF. For the game: I really wasn't sure what to expect going into the game. I didn't think we had much a shot to win and thought the point spread was about right. That being said, the things that worry me far outweigh the things that excited me on the field. KP16 looked lost the entire game. He had happy feet from the first snap. Never looked comfortable and had problems going through his reads. The O line didn't do him any favors as they had trouble pushing the line on running plays forcing bad down and distance. I will also say the play calling was a bit conservative. Another Zip fan said it reminded him of the Browns the past 2 years. I won't go that far but UCF, who runs pretty basic packages, was never forced to adjust what they do all game. As bad as the O looked the secondary takes the prize for most dissapointing. It didn't matter who Akron put in at safety they got beat. That was a concern of mine heading into the game and it looks worse that what I thought. They'll look better against MAC schools due to the pressure the D-Line will generate but that is fools gold. The starting WR's also had trouble getting open. I was very happy to see the two Frosh get in towards half time. Speaking of the two Frosh they were some of the positive things that I saw. Brickley and MTB1 looked very good. Their speed showed up the second they got on the field. I liked what I saw out of CJ. It took 2 series for Rossi to get pulled. Once CJ figures it out he'll be a force. I also liked what I saw out of Evans. Hope he'll get a few more snaps in the LB rotation. The D-Line is going to pile up sacks this year. UCF may have the biggest line Akron will face all year and they were able to apply pressure from a base package. I still don't know what to expect from this team. KP16 needs to take a big step forward against lesser competition this Saturday. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in lot 9 for some fantastic food! I'll add more if I can think of anything. One side note.....the start of the game made me laugh out loud as it started like the movie Major League. Hayes gets on....the press box gives the thumbs up! Hayes is then picked off the very next play and the press box makes a hand gesture not suitable for the board. In Akron's case...first play is a sack followed by a bomb for a touchdown. Only an Akron fan can find humor in that.
  13. Jeremy Schaap just did his final thought on Tressel possibly become Akron's next president on the Sports Reporters.
  14. Where was Mizell lined up? How did the o line look? Did the late JUCO transfer play? How do the safeties look? Any other frosh to look out for?
  15. I thought the most interesting question asked was the poll: Who will win more game this season Bowden or Wiess? I'd lean Bowden but just barely.
  16. Not too many traditions but the players and coaches do walk into the stadium from their buses. Fans, the band, cheerleaders, etc line the street in between the fieldhouse and stadium. Also there's the tradition of the Ak Rowdies starting the Z-I with the rest of the stadium responding with P'S! There's great tailgating in lot 9. Around the stadium there's not much diversity food wise but BW3 has always been the staple for Zip fans. Hope that helps
  17. I think if McCray is healthy you can see him, Grice, and Nico on the line at the same time on running down and distance. Nico could slide over to end. It should be interesting to finally see a defensive rotation (something Akron hasn't seen in 5 years). It should be really interesting to see how the O line shakes out. Lots of question marks there.
  18. @JZ84 you are correct. we had the same orientation weekend as we were both late decisions on coming to Akron
  19. list of invitees for the combine. no Zeke click for list
  20. plenty of people have heard of them especially college kids
  21. The university has had this in the past. When I first got my season tickets for football I got a young alumni discount for the first two years. That was the main reason I went with reserved seating. Like that they are promoting it a little more. This is a way to keep young alum involved with the school.
  22. hope i'm not poking the bear here but what's wrong with Owl City? They have a couple of hits and one song that was pretty popular the past year. Think the song was always a good time with the chick that sings call me maybe. So it's not like the university is getting some washed up group no one remembers. Not my favorite choice, but I am sure college girls will like it.
  23. I'll just post a couple of things that stood out to me. KP16 looked ok. Made a couple of nice reads and showed off his arm early. Was taken out in the second half as he got dinged up. The back up QB's looked awful. Someone mentioned Franco and his feet but that's the only thing he showed. The other guy was even worse. Hoping the kid from PA can step in and be the back up. The O line looks bad right now. Lets hope some of the new guys coming in can contribute right away. A few people said this and I agree that Pughs may be the most important player for Akron this year. Not the best sign as he gets hurt every year. The linebackers looked really good. Showed some speed getting to the ball and delivered some nice hits. Brown is going to be a ball player. If CJ can get eligible this will be the strength of the team. All of you Rossi supporters should know that he's back with the 2's. Saw nothing exciting from most of the receivers. Although Chambers made a few catches. Secondary looks to be improved. Happy to see Cunningham starting opposite Freemen. This could be a nice tandem. Pres played mostly with the 1's and applied some pressure. In fact, the line as a unit did a good job of getting to the QB. Not sure if that is a sign of overall improvement for the DL or if the OL is just that bad. 2 50+ fg's today!!! wow. now if he can just learn to kick to the closed end side of the stadium. Thought the crowd was decent considering the team is coming off back to back 1-11 seasons. The weather, for once, helped bring some extra people. Great seeing everyone in lot 9 can can't wait for the season to start. The only thing i can say for sure is that the food in lot 9 will be stellar!
  24. I just feel numb right now. I can only imagine what the team is going through right now. A week of practice will do the team some good. I agree Melo played around a C game today. Would like to see Reggie get a little more run at the point as well. With nobody left on the team that can create off the dribble teams will just pack it in. This team has to hit open threes or they're dead in the water. This team missed so many open looks today. Harney, Walsh, and Kretzer have to play better, they got very little from these three today. Happy with the D in the second half and the effort was there. This team will now go as far as their shooting and that is scary. Please give Chauncey Deji's mins and keep Melo around 20 and this team can have a chance in the tourney.
