now that all of the mac schedules are i out i took some time to really look at the other mac schedules and i am feeling a little better about how akron's schedule plays out for expamle akron's last game is against wmu and you can make a case that they'll be a tough home game. one thing to keep in mind is that wmu faces florida sate the week before and should be beat up coming to akron .... also the game at cmu has some of the same features as cmu plays at the team up north ... i know that akron is coming off two very tough road games but i feel that akron is the deeper team and should come into that game more fresh.....looking at the two conteders in the mac east bgsu has by far the toughest schedule not only do they play ohio state and wisconsin but they finish the season at akron miami at home and at toledo... as for miami they should have the softest schedule as the akron game is sandwiched inbtween ball state and ub... the red hawks even have very winnable non conference games but this is all hanging on their qb situaiton....as for the make or break portion of akron's schedule look no further than the middle part were the zips go at uc, miami at home, at toledo, and bgsu at home... if akron wins three of four they should have a good chance at 8-4 and a mac east titlelets hope for the best and stay away from the injury bug... can't wait for the season to start this could be a big year!

now on foxsprts as reported by collegefootballnews.com lists the top 30 impact transfers for the 2006 season and incoming dt nate robinson is listed here is what they had to say15. DT Nate Robinson, Akron via Rutgers It was just three years ago that Robinson was the most sought after high school defensive lineman in the country. Since then, he's authored a mini-saga, signing with, failing to qualify at, and eventually leaving Miami for a rather uneventful two-year stint at Rutgers. The biggest news in those two years was his dismissal last spring for failing to apply himself in the classroom. The clock is ticking, but time has not yet run out on Robinson, who has one final opportunity to approach his massive potential and avoid being labeled one of the biggest busts of the Class of 2003. lets hope this kid can live up to the hype he has all the talent in the world!

got to also add matt cherry to the list who has bounced around for the last 2 years and is currently on the panthers roster. soon akron can add hixon to the list
-
Can't has done a really good job of developing the talent they have each year... i don't think they will be as good next year but gates and smith will be a force... looking ahead to akron we really can only get better with the additions of wood and conyers.. we can't count on the freshmen coming in but if they can give the returning players a little bit of time off the sky's the limit!GO ZIPS!
-
pre season top 50 sounds about right... any pub from espn is good lets hope the zips can add one more big time h.s. player to the roster and become mac champs next year!
-
while i do like the add of north texas i am a little worried with akron having five of its first six on the road... i guess you could say that we finish with most of or games at home is a good thing but i would rather have good momentium going into the end of the year.... still this was a good late addidtion by akron's new ad!lets go zips lets become 2 time :macc:

5 wins is in the right direction???? i am sorry but this is the right move.

i am sorry i don't have the link but there was a really good story about the heads of the mac, mvc, caa, and wac getting together shortly after the season to talk about a possible agreement were the conferences would showcase their top 6 teams and play each other... i think its a great idea and all of these conferences have problems getting quality home ooc games. also in the article it stated that the ncaa selection comittie would be in favor of this going as far as saying that it would help their (mid majors) cause with getting at large bids.lets hope they can get this done asap!
-
if the big booster you are talking about was in the band then why didn't his money go to the Guzetta Hall project???? if you are gonna give that info give a name!
-
second only to the sun belt.... they also has us loosing kiki and that won't happen (at least i hope not) the only important thing is that they are grouped with the title contenders and that is were they should be!
-
i like the idea of a clock it would go well with all the new clocks around campus... and for the camdem yard reference its hard to compare baseball parks to football stadiums. with baseball you have felxibility with the size of the feild were you do not in football... as long as they don't make the the stadium look cheap and put it on campus i'll be happy.... i am also happy that they are taking there time in planning this project. i know that its killing us but the more time they take the better i think the project will turn out.can't wait to see the first game there and do some tailgating on campus!

poss. increase of recruits in ohio?
gozips19 replied to gozips19's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
great posts guys! i also think it would be great to get zipsdad57's opinion on this topic... what was it like when considering akron the first time as compaired to the second time around. and for anyone else that has ties to high school football how are the zips being preceived? i truely think that keeping some of the great local talent will be the key to long term success! if akron can step that up and continue to improve in areas like fla, western pa, and the d.c. area that the zips can really have something special there! -
bg stays in the east for now. once temple joins the mac for football i think that the league will reopen that topic. yes we should be the fav. for the east but lets not look past ohio. the didn't loose much from a team that was ok and has good coaching. with that being said bgsu and mu should be taking a step back with bgsu loosing more than miami. mu will still be a very good team and if they can get their offense going early with a new qb could be dangerous ( much like our situation last year) should be a great year for the zips though!

When You Are Right, You Don't Need Vindication
gozips19 replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
you can make cases for both dialsfan 11 yes the acc did well but so did the mvc. while two of their schools went one and done they didn't get the best of seeds were the acc had the easier road. cbs wants the most people to watch and the better ratings tend to come with the bigger schools that's jsut a fact. plus i would bet that neither pack's or nace saw too many mvc or caa games this year so they shouldn't have made the arguement they did. with that being said this has been one of the best tourny's in a long time and i hope akron is taking notes on other mid major's performences! -
i didn't see the game but i think you guys are being a little too harsh on the kid. he's played well all year and he is not expected to come in next year and start. all he needs to do is replace what futch did last year and he should be able to do that while making the team more athletic. akron will be a vetrean team next year so they will have a year to bring the kids along slowly (at least i hope)

A MAC school will have the best football record
gozips19 replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
i am sorry but osu will be pretty tough to beat in 06 and for the zips 9-3 might be a little too high.. i think more like 8-4. that would be a nice step up for the zips and bgsu might be in trouble if their qb goes to jail. -
i know that it is early but i am really happy to read on places like ohiovarsity.com about top players in the state that are really looking at akron this year! i know that we won't get all of them but there wasn't news like this on the zips last year. just for a topic starter if you could recruit high school talent for akron what states would take priority?for me ohio would be at the top followed by pa (mostly western pa) then fla.

keep it the way it is ... and the old school look has too much of a canadian football vibe to it. never mess with a streak! keep it the way it is.
-
we are the road team so i am thinking it will be the normal road colors....and make that arena happen blue and gold!
-
i agree that our starting d line is good on size but its the depth and size with the reserves that scares me. i do think that stokes and grant should be able to put on 10 lbs before the opener and will add some bulk to their long athletic frames. i can't wait for the spring game!
-
passing game will be about the same luke will throw for about 3k again and that is great for a college qb. but i think we will run the ball better due to multiple backs and a talented line that has some depth now. as for the d i think the passing d will be a lot better as the secondary is a year older and is deep, the line and outside linebackers are guys that can get down feild as well. my one concern is the run d. we are still a little small on the line if most of the newer guys can't play we also have a big question at the ml and our bandit and olb are on the small side (although very fast). agian they will have to gang tackle to be effective and i think they have showed they can do that. by no means do i think we'll go undefeated but i do expect more from this team that what they showed last year and that is to beat up on the east, play the big boys tough and become a more consistent team.

just got done reading this thread all the way through and that was great! the nation was rocking! all i have to say is QUADE FREAKING MILIAM!!!!!!

i couldn't agree more....come on guys! if you really think kd is the right coach? step up or take this topic off! LETS GO ZIPS!
-
i must say as a recent grad who now sits with the "oldies" i see your point... as a student i couldn't understand why none of the season ticket holders never really cheer. there is the cheers for a first down or when a reef makes a bad care but no real spontainious cheering. as a season ticket holder for football i some times get weid looks for either standing too much or for simply being too loud. i hope that with the increase of students at games will help genterate a buzz that will carry over to the "oldies" for it is the "oldies" that are and will forever be the base of the university. lets hope we see more of both!

this is the strangest topic i have ever read on the nation!!!! just last week just about everyone wanted kd for coach of the year!!! now we are asking if he is the right coach? quick name me a coach at akron who won 20 games since huggins? you can't! i think what he did with 9 guys on schloarship. we made took a big step this year and will take another big step next year! give the man some respect!
