  1. crouch is better than conrad dean and he at least made a practice squad..... crouch has a chance.
  2. this is from collegefootballnews.com side note: they also do the previews for foxsportswho do you think the Big East will suck in from CUSA in the event of another expansion raid? – MWA: Here’s the trickle-down effect I see potentially happening in the very near future. To get to a 12-team league, the Big East will likely snag UCF, East Carolina, Memphis and Southern Miss because of their size as well as their football programs. Marshall might be in that mix taking USM’s spot, but the Big East wouldn’t be doing jumping jacks over having two teams from West Virginia. Conference USA would then likely pick get Navy and then make offers to Toledo, Miami University, and Northern Illinois from the MAC. Remember, this is all speculation.also the question was asked for conference champs and they have either toledo or niu "flip a coin" nice to see we are still getting no love
  3. well lets hear it Zipmeister!
  4. i couldn't agree more racer... and PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP COMPAIRING US TO UCF!!!!!! right now ucf is the largest public school in florida and has tons of money to throw into their sports programs and is located in orlando. it wont happen any time soon that akron gives jd 1mill. per like ucf just did so just stop it! if we want to look to our competition look no further than the other schools in the mac that (last i checked) still out draw us. hopefully that will change this year and we'll be on to bigger and better things we the university needs to learn to walk before it can run.
  5. from foxsports--The Zips pulled off a coup with the signing of Steve McNees to a national letter of intent. McNees averaged 28.4 points and 8.0 apg for Shenango (Pa.) High School and was named one of the top 10 players by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
  6. the capt. is right by saying we have to work with what we have and right now we have a good basketball and football team at a mid major level. also we have very poor attendence in football and decent attendence in basketball is little to no money from t.v. moving to any conference is going to take some time to build. the steps that need to be taken have been stated already but to go from point a to z isn't going to happen.to address two questions specificly cusa would be a big step up as long as either memphis or ucf stayed due to the fact that they have a t.v. deal with cstv (i think they are the only conference ) were they'll get more money expossure and that will cover travel costs. as for the have's and the have nots we shouldn't compair ourselves with the top dogs of the big east ie; wvu... look at some of the middle teams and they face some of the problems that akron faces. for example i have a hard time seeing rutgures getting 7 footers year after year and i don't see uconn getting large d tackles ever year either.... after we are playing football games at home and average more than 20k a game and sell out 90% of our basketball ball games we have a long way to go but we do have a base and that is enough to get excited about
  7. to add to the nate robinson question i got to hear coach brookheart speak a few weeks ago and when asked to comment on his progress he said he didn't know and that he had some academic issues though he didn't mention he was out of shape.... the only other player that was talked about was carlton jackson were brookheart said he's a special talent and they would find a way to get him on the field... read into that all you want but i'd tought i'd add that to the thread..... any word on some of the other injured zips like pace?
  8. that was a classic! well done!
  9. the redskins website has an article up but has nothing about biggs or any udfa's .... it did mention that many udfa's looked good and gibbs has been known to keep a few udfa on the roster each year. lets keep our fingers crossed
  10. trick plays are fine but you don't run them when you are up like that in the 4th.... as for the ashland game i really don't care what they do.. i wish fergie the best of luck but he is no longer on akron's roster for a reason...thank god JD is akron's coach!
  11. not only nance but hunter and betts from miami... both of those two can contribute to a nfl team
  12. last time i checked there were plenty of running backs under 5"10 ... biggs could be a nice 3rd down back similar to eric benimy (sp)... i am sure there were a lot of people who said blackburn was too slow as well... never under estimate the heart of a mac champion! (god that feels good to say )
  13. the question i have is why is this guy even on this board? last time i checked the schedule mtsu was not on it.... please go back to your team board unless you'd like to talk about how bad Can't is
  14. wow how old is that picture of carroll st?????? the jar isn't even in there!
  15. skhorbotly welcome to the world of mid major baseketball.... if you look at most rosters at this level there are two types of teams.... teams that have 2-3 athletic big's and a bunch of guards who can go after it for the entire game with out letting up like GW ... there is also the other kind of team that will be balanced at each pos. but most of the big's are prospects that take 2-3 yrs to develop... a perfect example of this is Can't... both work at this level but akron's is a little less risky. all it takes is a few big's to not pan out and sets your program back 5 years... (i'm sure the capt. will give a list of the numerous busts in zips history at some point )as for people redshriting the only guy i can see doing this is roberts... even is bardo plays 5 mins. a game it will still get him some game experience just like akron did with quade. this team will much more athletic and much deeper than this years.... they should be very dangerous!
  16. i think that lively and mcphearson (sp) will be the first two in the rotation but you are right that he could get some playing time but the kid is really raw. the one thing he has going for him is size and you can't teach that
  17. some stuff i like is the walt disney song and the dance the band will do from time to time...some stuff i don't like is that the band has a bad habit of playing songs that aren't with the flow of the game for example playing happy songs when the team is down or busting into song just after a int... stuff like that cut down on that and i think the band does a pretty good job with the songs we all know and love like the fight song and the eat em up song .... things like that never get old and build a legacy for future students to build onthanks for the post
  18. forgive me zipsnation for i dont know how to post the link but rivals.com posted some highlights of stoutomire and he looks like can could become a force. he's really big and fast for his size. the thing that stood out the most was how tough he was. on every play it looked like he was trying to put his opponent throught the field. the only concern was that he plays too high and will have problems getting leverage but that can be coached .... the kid looks like a winner though and i can't wait to see him in pads!
  19. from gozips.comAKRON, Ohio - University of Akron senior-to-be defensive end Jermaine Reid (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic HS) was chosen by the Hamilton Tiger-cats yesterday in the second round of the Canadian Football League College Draft. Reid, who has one year of eligibility remaining and will return to the Zips this fall, was taken with the first pick in the second round. He was one of three players from the Mid-American Conference chosen in the six-round draft and the second UA player in as many seasons picked by a CFL team. Eric Deslauriers of Eastern Michigan was the highest pick among MAC players, going to the Montreal Alouettes with the seventh choice in the first round. He also has one year of eligibility remaining. Former Zips linebacker Cam Yeow was taken second overall by the Ottawa Renegades in the 2005 CFL College Draft. He played with Ottawa last season and was chosen by the Calgary Stampeders last week in the Renegades dispersal draft after the team folded. Players are eligible to be drafted after four years of college. Hamilton will retain Reid's rights until he is either traded or released. Reid redshirted as a true freshman in 2002. He started all 13 games last season, posting 59 tackles, including 13 1/2 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Reid ranked seventh in the MAC and tied for 83rd nationally in sacks (0.54 pg). He was also sixth in the league in tackles for loss (1.04 pg).
  20. ok i started the thread so i guess its time to add my two cents... guys that will make a roster for sure andy alleman and nate robinson... the nfl looks at size and they have plentyguys that should make a roster getsy, aurther, kiki, stokes, kasaperik ..... the list here all lack a little something but either have size or speed working for them... as for getsy the man is smart and will be a good back up in the prosguys that have the potential to make a roster cruz, sekinger, harvey, anderson, bates, stoutomire, igor, jackson.... all of these guys have the make up to land on a roster as long as they continue to develop and stay away from any major injuries if i'd had to pick one guy to be the lock in this list i'd take anderson he will be a beast! others that are starters you could make a case for would be kennedy crouch, and brandon anderson.... kennedy seems a little too slow same with crouch (although dean got a shot) and anderson is a little on the small side but has 3 years to gain weightthe best part about this topic is that 7-10 years ago the list would start and end every year with 1-2 guys.. the talent is in place now its time to take this to the next level!
  21. Ian McShay's last mock draft has all seven rounds and has Hixon going in the 7th round pick 248 to the Bills ... while the Bills would be a good spot for him I hope that he doesn't go that low in the draft.
  22. ok since there isnt much to talk about at this time of the year i tought it would be fun to look into the future of akron's currnet roster. looking over the roster including incoming freshman how many do you think will make a pro (nfl) roster?
  23. Jaquemain looked good and Jackson will be moved to wr?????? did you see the duck Jaquemain threw down the sideline? he will be a fine back up but that is all.. Jackson has all the tools to be great. i agree that he needs to work on his foot work but his versatility in the pocket will make akron very tough to defend next year... think of Pitt when Rutherford was their qb.... after watching the game on replay i was a lot more impressed with the defense than i was when i saw the game in person... the secondary looks good and the speed of the d will be the strong point of the team... can't wait for the fall game and to see some of the new freshman!
  24. per rivals.com ricky jackson has signed with western carolina.... it said that he took a visit but never had an offer from akron... the reason jackson commited to wcu was that it offered help in his studies..... i sure hope we are able to land another good player asap!
  25. Jake Schifino (6-1, 201) joins the Texans for his 5th season in the NFL. His playing experience is limited, having only played in 14 games during his professional career. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2002 as a fifth round pick (151st overall). Schifino played for the Titans for three years
