Not good with all the icons or adding graphs/charts/tables. Doubt that I will have the patience to learn. Would like to figure out how to use tables as it is useful sometimes. Helpful instruction: 1. Roll the cursor to the icon. 2. Click. Follow me:

Damn, it is impossible to discuss anything with you. You are such a victim, BuckZip. Glad the "owners" and moderators of this forum set examples of moderation, civility and keeping this non-personal. They can never be accused of setting the tone that allows for all the vindictive, personal trashing that goes on at ZNO. Dude! You forgot the

Fifth Day of Preseaon Men's Basketball Practice
Z.I.P. replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Quincy Diggs .390 (ESPN) Brett McClanahan .389 (ESPN) Brett McKnight .385 (ESPN) Same stats here (CBS Sports) ...and here (Rivals) The 2011 Post Season Media Guide does NOT include the Notre Dame game. Quincy took and made one three point shot against the Irish. That elevated his percentage. McClanahan took a couple of shots against the Irish and his percentage went down. Brett fired up over two hundred three balls over the course of the season. Diggs shot forty-one three balls. Huge difference. Diggs by virtue of rarely shooting long shots gains a minor statistical advantage. He is NOT the best outside shooter on the Zips. I will concede that percentage wise with a small sample he "appears" to be ... blah, blah, blah. Truth is; Diggs had a terrible stroke and any one who follows the game would and should cringe when he took those long shots. My original intent was to give Quincy credit for his work over the off season for improving his game. Some of you find busting my ass more to your liking than recognizing this kid for his hard work. Actually, even though Diggs has a slight statistical advantage it is unlikely that it is a statically significant advantage over either Mc. Fortunately, while his 42 attempts is not a huge number it is large enough to provide a sample that is asymptotically normal and you can easily conduct a significance test for yourself. Meister I apologize that my Statistics and Combinatorics classwork was lost in the haze of time (well, at least I'm not pulling the "My turtle ate my homework" excuse again!). Could you estimate what the chi square score might be between Quincy and Mac? Based on standard deviations from the mean, or median, your choice. -
Youth Player Evaluations
Z.I.P. replied to fantotheend's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
"So typical of MLS". Boy, does that say a mouthful! I've always thought, MLS is to world football as the MAC is to the USA. MLS tries to use physical style to make up for the lack of consistent skills -- but it isn't that simple, other nations/leagues appear to be trying to emulate our style -- did anyone see the awful takle by a Real Madrid player in Sunday's match with Barca? Criminal -- worse than what Mullan did to Zakuani, and he'll probably get no suspension. Plain and simple...the MLS plays terrible futbol I like the physical style. Better that than watching a game where people go down if they're tapped and cry if there's no yellow. Oh, they do that too! Watching Chivas USA play Sounders Saturday, Mondaini from Chivas was able to get three foul calls and a yellow card from the ref -- he was barely touched by the defenders, and goes down every time. So you could say the refs are empowering the unsportsmanlike play. There's a fine line between calling too many fouls and cutting down on over-physical or reckless play -- and the MLS referee system fails to draw the line consistently. -

IMG Soccer Academy retires six jerseys
Z.I.P. replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I'm assuming that these are the first #s that IMG is "retiring". And, quite frankly, given that they are not what anyone would call a regular "school", if they maintain these standards, they will not have many -- if any -- numbers remaining in a decade or two! Interesting remark from Bisbee -- but IMG, which I think began out of the Nick Bollitierri Tennis Academy exists on the back of super-rich families, or in the case of most footballers, the USSF, which pays the cost for the National Youth Academy residency players -- is that not true? -
Atill no Kyle Culbertson... #42 ranked HS player from 2010... http://academy.demosphere.com/teams/172761...4/12970534.html Varsity Football (Place Kicking) - 2nd Team All Conference Someone check I-Coach's roster!

I was checking out the host sites, to see where I may travel. Back to Portland on men's side, is only Left Coast site. Then I looked at the ladies, and saw that BeeGee hosts a regional -- great news for the MAC! It's actually the fourth time they have hosted - hard to believe! In their new facility, yet.

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
Z.I.P. replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Don't worry --- they all have law degrees! -
How can I force myself to take the NCAA seriously? They also have a policy that to remain eligible for Football Bowl Series, you must average 15,000 fans per home game. These rules are only as good as the jello they're written on!

Dave, I've followed Akron athletics for the past forty years. There is actually LESS community interest today than there was in 1975 (largely because the city has lost 1/3 of its population). The attendance absolute ceiling for basketball is 5-6000 (ave.) even if you brought Madison Square Garden to S Main. For football it is 20k, regardless of how many games they win. GP-1 and I agree on one thing, Akron is not a good place to build a retail base of consumers. More generally, I must say, I've done everything in my power to avoid reading news about changes in college athletics. It is all constructed on the strength of BCS audience capacity and future growth. Those of us with no dog in the race (e.g., the entire MAC), have nothing to gain from it. Even if the blow-up occured tomorrow, it is unlikely any MAC schools would be seen as Big East caliber -- and frankly Akron would have to stand in line behind at least Ohio, Toledo and Miami. Conference USA is barely more than a parallel move, with significant increased costs. As I've said time and again, the Akron Zips are a typical MAC athletic program -- and there ain't nuthin wrong with that! Let's wait till we're "too big" for our current surroundings before even thinking about moving anywhere.

Anyone with ANY Zips hoops news?
Z.I.P. replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Oh Canada! I thought that UVic was the UCLA of the GWN, but ends up I haven't been keeping up with my Canuck hoops! They DID win seven straight from 1980-86. I know the first game new Hawaii coach Riley Wallace coached -- in 1986(!) was against Victoria (the Thunderbirds, I'm pretty sure) and they took a thumping -- the Thunderbirds flew over the Rainbows! Last exhibition they played against Canadians. Now in VOLLEYBALL (men's), it's a totally different story -- Canadian schools can MORE than hold their own against the US, especially the Dinosaurs of Alberta, who have played in Hawaii's pre-season tourney several times. Once about 15-20 yrs ago, I saw them take apart a UCLA team that won the NCAA title! -

#2 Ranked Recruiting Class

Is this another Porter surprise? Is this the reason Walls left? Medellin, Colombia!?! Z.I.P., where you at on this? FC Independiente de Medellin has two Arboledas on the roster. El tercero hermano? -
Where did you hear that?? BTW -- the idea that David Mayer is a very good player should not come as any surprise, if you know he started for Wigan's Academy team (U19 I guess). As someone over at BigSoccer boards shouted out -- get him a Green Card fast, the USA needs a left back BAD.

Fifth Day of Preseaon Men's Basketball Practice
Z.I.P. replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Everyone? Isn't that a bit overstated? There's been a pretty wide diversity of opinion here, ranging from Sweet 16 to lucky to break the Top 100, and everything in between. And, not sorry to say, a lot can be learned by watching practice and scrimmage if you know what to look for. For example, a fair number of the players practicing and scrimmaging against each other are known quantities. We've seen them play lots of games against other teams. We know how well they run, jump, handle the ball, rebound, play D, etc., etc. Now we're watching newcomers match up against them. When we see that some of the newcomers in their very first practices and scrimmages demonstrate talents and abilities as good as or better than the know quantities, it does mean something. So please feel free to push the envelope of pessimism. But please don't misrepresent the opinions of those who've seen with their own eyes what only exists in your imagination. Damn Dave, I think you're turning ME into a wild-eyed optimist! This could be the year Green wins the state? -

Sheesh! UCLA, #21? They bring in the best new goalkeeper in the country (Earl Edwards), the star of the U17 team (Kelyn Rowe) plus all-everything Victor Chavez and Munoz (sorry for the lack of a tilda), the Real Madrid youth, and they're #21, because they had "limited needs"?? If Jorge Salcedo can't take this team to the Final Four, he can't coach. But he can definitely recruit. Eder Arreola, pre-season Hermann favorite. Maybe they're downgraded (word of the week!) because they failed to get any Akron transfers! Not sure what you mean Z.I.P. Every kid you named except for the transfer was part of last year's recruiting class. They only brought in 3 kids total this year. Credit where it's due -- apparently UCLA hasn't put up THIS year's roster yet! My bad. Still, that roster is the reason why the Bruins are the best team in America on paper. Salcedo will be tested to show his coaching ability. -

If what I'm reading is correct, this team may not have to wait till the end of the season to make the Top-50. We may even exceed I Speak Truth's estimate of 20 wins! -
